thanks for the ARC of this book, #NetGalley!
This book felt flat to me. I would not consider it a thriller and there was never a point where I felt on edge. The ending fell short and I would have preferred twists throughout the book since it fell flat.
The actual text on my kindle had spots where the spacing between the words were also off. There’s also some words that are for sure Irish based English that didn’t make sense to me, someone in the US reading it which was fine but I did want to call that out.
The concept wasn’t bad, I do love reading about a messy family with unhinged characters but I just felt like there was nothing making me turn the page. Just wished for more.

Conflicted and still questioning the death of her father when she was young, Jane and her husband Joe move in with her mother to help with her declining health. Strange occurrences keep dredging up the past everyone is tense and on edge. In a desperate bid to discover the truth behind her dad’s murder and the unusual behavior of those around her, Jane finds out more than she bargained for.
This was an incredibly quick read and while the basic plot was intriguing, I found the style to be a little less mysterious than I was hoping for. The character development was brief and left me struggling to empathize with the main characters.
While this book was not for me, it had good elements of an old, creaky, mysterious house, family secrets, and the foundation for a suspenseful narrative!
Much thanks and appreciation to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an advance copy to read! This was my genuine, honest review.
Absorbing psychological thriller flipping between the perspectives of Joe and Jane a married couple forced to move in with her elderly mother which tests their relationship and stirs up past trauma. It’s a fast paced read as the lives of the couple are slowly unravelled. Jane’s troubled brother Daniel creates tension between the couple, flashbacks to the past reveal a cold case and Joe makes a series of clumsy decisions that nicely build up to a dramatic ending. Really enjoyed the setting and storyline and especially the twist, highly recommend.
The book started with a bang and piqued my interest right away. I think the story and idea has a ton of potential, but I’d probably make it longer or at least more descriptive so I could root for or be mad at a character. but I then found myself a bit bored throughout. None of the twists at the end surprised me (just how they’d end up there), and unfortunately I didn’t feel like the characters were well developed for my liking. They were messy and unhealthy(which I don’t mind), but the reasons for choices or even decisions made felt vague/not well explained. Because the characters felt underdeveloped, I also didn’t really care about what happened to them or feel engaged. I rated it 3.75 stars! Still a good star count and would recommend.

Thank you to Net Galley and Inkubator books for this ARC copy!
A family, psychological and atmospheric thriller. Characters of dubious morality, in an inherited house and many secrets, set the tone for this story.
A quick read, somewhat predictable, well-developed characters.
Arc provided by NetGalley
The Inheritance by Kevin Lynch was a bit boring to me. It's obvious from the beginning who the "villain" is. However, I did keep wondering if they had an accomplice. The ending had a bit of a shocking moment but was still pretty anticlimactic.
Thank you to NetGalley for the free arc in return for my honest review
This was a gripping, pacy + captivating thriller with intriguing, suspicious characters and plenty of twists and suspense.
Thank you to Netgalley + the publisher for my ARC.
This was a great thriller. Unreliable characters, which I live. Lies and secrets abound, and best of all, shocking twists. Intriguing from start to finish.
A fantastic psychological thriller that had a complex family dynamic and unlikable characters with unexpected twists. The pacing was just right, with enough intrigue to keep me guessing until the very end. Each character had their own secrets and agendas, which made the story even more engaging. I really enjoyed how the story wrapped up, with each character getting what they deserved in the end.
Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for the eARC.
Janes father was murdered when Jane was a young girl, the events of that night still haunt her and she feels like not everything was as it was made out. Jane has done everything within her power to stay away from her family home where the awful memories of that night come flooding back, but when she gets a call from her mothers doctor to say she’s declining and needs assistance at home, Jane and her husband Joe step up to the task.
Upon returning, Jane’s unanswered questions surface and she starts to wonder what happened all those years ago, will she get to the truth? And if she does, at what risk?
I found this book quite a slow burn that didn’t have enough complexity to the story, meaning I was a little bored at times. This is my reason for the low star review
You Can Bury the Dead, But You Can’t Bury the Past

This was my first ARC review through NetGalley and I really enjoyed it.
The story kept me interested and wanting to read more. It had everything I enjoy in a thriller; twists, dysfunctional family, and many secrets and lies. I really liked the dual POVs between Jane and Joe. The timelines between past and present helped me as a reader connect the whole story. Four stars from me because it was easy to guess who the bad person was, but I liked how there was still a twist to it at the end.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and recommend it if you enjoy a good thriller.
This book publishes on March 24th!
Thanks NetGalley and Inkubator Books for the ARC!
I really enjoyed this book! This is my first book by this author. I was not disappointed. It was a little slow at first, but then got really exciting and I didn’t want to put it down. I will definitely be reading more of his books!
A slow burn but one that socks you right on. This family is literally every super shady wealthy family TV series. Generally most of the characters are just awful and the likes of Joe.... super super shady!!! And everyone is pretty unlikeable in their own way, whoch I absolutely loved. Some good twists and turns, probs not a massive shock the final reveal but it's still a really enjoyable journey to discovering it all. It gives everything you'd want from a domestic noir

The Inheritance by Kevin Lynch is an interesting read about greedy people without morals. This was in the middle of I loved it and I didn't like it. It took me a while to get into this story. More or less it was evident who was the bad person but it was pinned around nicely with an "Oh wow" approach!
Jane and Dan's mother is ill and they must care about her. The house is amazing... and expensive! This house has secrets and bad memories...
Jane and her husband, Joe, move in with Jane’s mother but Dan is there to help from the outside. Jane never stops digging into what happened to their dad until she is dangerously close to the answer and her life now is in danger!
Thank you NetGalley and Inkubator Books for this copy!
The Inheritance ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Jane and her husband, Joe, move in with Jane’s mom to help take care of her since her health is declining. While it is a big and beautiful house, it holds a lot of dark memories. Jane’s father was killed there and the murderer was never found. Now living back at home, Jane has lots of flashbacks to that night she found her dad. It also doesn’t help that Joe has started acting odd too. You can bury the dead, but you can’t bury the past and secrets don’t always keep.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I didn’t really care for the characters, but I think that was the point. I did like how it was a dual point of view and the flashbacks from Jane to explain things in more detail. I also liked the writing style.
This book publishes on March 24, 2024. If you like a good family drama, whodunnit mystery then you’ll like this one. Thank you to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for my digital advanced readers copy. This is my honest and voluntary opinion.
This is a new author for me and I’ll be reading more of his books! This had everything a psychological thriller should have - a dysfunctional family, secrets, lies, plot twists. I loved it and it kept me guessing until the end. I’ll be happy to recommend at publication. This would also lead to interesting discussion for a book club. Thanks for the opportunity to read in advance!
This story dove right in and kept me reading to the very end, I like the surprise at the end it made the story that much more twisted. Well done!
This is a a great novel, about twisted family secrets and lies and peppered with thoroughly unlikeable characters! Kevin is a newish author to me and I really enjoyed his writing style. The pacing is good and I raced through it.
This read slowly pulls you in and keeps you guessing, that's for sure. There are twists and turns aplenty I did dislike quite a few of the characters but the writing is so skillfully done it just made the book even better and made me keep reading till the outcome which I definitely didn't see coming.
Its a great read and I'm looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.
Thanks to Netgalley and Inkubator Books for the ARC.
This book was CRAZY!!! I enjoyed reading it a lot more towards the end. I wish we knew more about Jane, and what happened after everything. I also wish it was clearer if Jane finds out about the affair, and everything else that Joe was being suspicious with.
