Oh, this book is fully of messy, messy people.

As I read it, I noticed my eyes kept narrowing into slits because I was thinking THOUGHTS about some of these people – especially about Joe.

In truth, I didn’t like any of the characters. It also didn’t matter because they kept getting more and more extra and I couldn’t look away. I mean, it’s definitely a train wreck, but an entertaining one.

Also, if I ever behave like the people in this book, you have permission to lock me away forever.

A popcorn read that manages to be both entertaining and infuriating.

The two main characters, Jane and Joe, move into Jane's childhood home to take care of her ailing mother. Soon things take a turn for the worse between the two spouses. Jane still has PTSD years after her father was murdered an Joe makes a moral sidestep. Jane's brother, Dan, shows up occasionally, always with an aura of menace.
Jane is a bit naive, but Joe and Dan are despicable in my opinion.
The story is a real nail bitter, impossible to put down, I enjoyed it immensely and the ending was surprising and satisfactory. Definitely recommended!

"The Inheritance" by Kevin Lynch is a story told in a two-person POV: Jane and her Husband Joe. Jane's father was murdered at their family home when she was 14. The story begins later on in years when Jane and Joe are married and living in a different house. Jane and Joe are forced to move back to her family home to take care of her mother, Helen, who has fallen ill and needs a full-time caregiver. Jane and Joe lease out their house and return to her family home. Jane's brother, Dan, drops in occasionally to check on his mother, and Jane starts to notice strange behaviors from both Joe and Dan. Jane recalls several events that took place the night of the murder and starts putting the pieces together. Joe has a little secret that he has been keeping from Jane. The two combined cause strain on their marriage. While there, they both tell the story through before and present events leading up to the discovery of who murdered her father. I did enjoy this thriller and rated it four stars. I felt like I kept the pages turning the entire time. However, I found Joe and Dan a little annoying in some parts, but everything worked out in the end.

Jane's father was murdered when she was just 14 - in the driveway of their family home. The police never found the murderer. Years later, Jane has a husband, Joe, and small florist business, Jane's mother, Helen, still resides in the family home, despite the tragedy that occurred there.

Helen needs a full-time caregiver, so Jane and Joe lease out their home and move in with Helen. It is there where things change for the family. Jane's brother, Dan drops in occasionally to check on his mother, and Jane notices strange behaviors from both Joe and Dan. Helen keeps insisting that she hears someone outside of the house at night, but no one else sees anything... Does danger lurk in the trees outside, or is the real danger inside the house itself?
