The illustrations in this book are beyond amazing. The story is about a moth who wants to be a drummer and has an idol rocker. In the end, he ends up playing with her, and even though it wasn't the best the moth was still so proud. This book is very short and sometimes I feel it doesn't flow perfectly but as a whole, it is a cute book.
A darling and very sweet children's book about being afraid to step into the limelight and try something new. The story follows Walter, a shy goth moth who usually hides away and dreams about being a drummer. Can he find the courage to seize his dreams and play with his idol, Jitterbug? This was so cute and sweet. The artwork is cute and I had fun reading this.

5 stars!!
I'm a teacher and I see so much potential for this book. Poetry is something that is so difficult for students to grasp (plus they think it's boring), but this would be such an amazing book for a lesson. The illustrations were so calming and adorable too. I fell in love with Goth Moth from the cover, and I know 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders (even moody 6th graders) would find this book such a delight! They LOVE throwing out words like "goth" and "emo" on a daily basis, so this book would 100% resonate with them. I will 100% be buying this for my classroom library!!!
This was so cute. I loved the hairstyles on all of the insects and how Goth Moth made his dream happen despite everyone around him trying to make him feel bad. He went for it and got what he wanted! He wasn’t shy to get up on that stage and do what he loved, which is a great lesson for children.
Walter Moth is my new favorite insect!
A drummer, a rocker, an original who thinks outside of the box (nighttime) to follow his dreams.
I can't wait to share this with every misfit kid, everyone "different" or "weird" who needs to find their fellow bugs.
This book is such a important book for children to read - and some adults as well!!!
Pick up this book to read with your children immediatly please!!!!
I was very excited for the idea of this book (as I have a lot of goth friends with kids and would love more books that I can gift them). Overall this was cute but the flow of the plot felt like it was missing something. could've been a bit longer to have a better flow.
Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy of Goth Moth by Kai Lüftner in exchange for an honest review. This was such a a cute book. It would be inspiring for kids and adults. I really liked Goth Moth.
This little picture book is such a delight. I love the use of color to make the world look luminescent. Before I got to the story, I knew I was going to love this because of the band names. This goth moth knows he was born to rock, and this story is his journey to playing music. The rhymes are perfect for building energy, and this would be such a fun book for a read-along. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
We received Goth Moth today after seeing it and thinking it looked like a cute read. My daughter was also excited to read it. She said her favourite part was Jitterbug lol I like jitterbugs guitarist jajaja. They were so cute. Every body was little rockers and it was adorable.
Thank you to Netgalley and Simon & Schuster for the complimentary copy for review.
A cute childrens story about Goth Moth taking chances and enjoying their interests. The artwork was beautiful and loved reading this is to my child
I enjoy an occasional dip into books for children. Sometimes I find humor and a chuckle, sometimes a warmed heart, occasionally inspiration. GOTH MOTH is delightfully rhymed and illustrated, subtly encouraging a fearful, anxious, or shy child to take a bold step and enjoy.
Wow! what a wonderful ride for a children’s book.
So bright and engaging. Beautiful artwork, creative and imaginative drawings and characterisation with a vibrant and delightful range of colour throughout.
The book suffers in part that it was not originally written in English.
However, it has been meticulously translated to maintain the beat and rhythm of the text.
The rhymes are not as easy on the ear but the effort to keep the poetic metre is to be commended. Re-reading the text again, I found the verse not so forced and overall I feel this keeps the integrity of the story as it was intended.
Therefore, I applaud the book. The idea and concept is so clever.
Beyond the musical and cultural ideas there is also a deeper message. Hopefully, this will translate into the minds of our children, for it relates to those who are timid, sensitive and shy.
Through this simple tale, I imagine some focus will fall on our bashful and more introverted natures. It may provide hope and a more positive response in our chatting about the story of Goth Moth!
