Fun rhymes flow seamlessly. Captures the impact of music in all its conflicts and resolutions. Emphasises the importance of pursuing dreams and not to be afraid of challenges. Satisfying pacing. Surface-level character development. Goth Moth is a flat character whose main trait is his love for rock. Lacks a definite opposition resulting in low stakes. Celebrates finding confidence in yourself. Recommended for those looking for a good time that isn't drawn out. Overall, an average read.

This is the cutest, most metal picture book I have ever seen and I am in LOVE. Walter is a shy moth but deep down he has a passion for rhythm and rock. He loves drumming to his own beat. He decides to leave the darkness of his home and attends a rock concert featuring his favourite star - Jitterbug. What he didn't expect was to steal the limelight and become the star of the show!

This clever rhyming story reminds children to never be afraid of who they are, to be brave and step into the limelight!

This is such an original and fun story and the illustrations were fantastically gothic and entertaining! Not scary but totally hit the briefing of 'Goth Moth'.

(A huge thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review! ♥)

I suppose Goth Moth might not be for every kid out there, but the rockin' little ones who are drawn to it are sure in for a treat. Walter the nighttime Goth Moth wants to drum his heart out, and dreams of playing music like his idol Jitterbug. His dreams come true in a whirlwind of excitement, and his passion leads the way. Loved this story! (And laughed out loud at 'Iron Mantis')

A cute rhyming story about a Goth Moth who dreams of playing the drums. The illustrations are adorably sppoky.

Adorable story of a Goth Moth that is a big fan of the band. If the band is around, will Goth Moth get to go?

Thank you to NetGalley and NorthSouth Books for the eARC.

A very cute, whimsical, quirky tale with a melodious text about a goth moth. It's fun and visually pleasing, with vibrant illustrations. I thought the part of being rejected by other critters could've been developed a bit more, but overall, it's a nice book with a unique theme.

⭐4/5

Goth Moth is a very cute story about Walter the (goth) moth, who plays drums only on his head because he has no drum kit. It’s his dream to be a rockstar like Jitterbug… but he needs support, a chance to believe in himself, and an opportune moment to shine!

The rhyming prose was very charming and definitely led to some interesting word combinations to keep the pattern. Text flowed mostly easily, although there were some moments where the rhythm of syllables felt off. Overall though, kudos to the translator Tim Mohr for still keeping the charm and rhymes in English.

A picture book wouldn’t be complete without, well, pictures. The art balances a way to be just grungy enough for a rock band image, but still cutesy for a children audience! If you’re a rock/metal fan, you’ll find the bug puns of album covers (ex. “Iron Mantis”) as a fun nod to the actual bands.

There’s a moment where a newspaper article of Jitterbug is shown, with seemingly unreadable mirrored text. As Lüftner is a German author, I presume the German version of Lorem Ipsum was used as a placeholder text. I was curious about what it said… and a medical description of polychondritis is definitely a filler text. It was an amusing discovery for myself, but kids won’t notice it at all.

Overall, Goth Moth is a fun read to introduce children to music (especially if you are familiar with the bands referenced), alongside a message of self-positivity and a journey in confidence. I often found myself smiling at how adorable the whole story was, and this is definitely a book I would have loved as a kid. While this is the second book in the Band of Bugs series, it can easily be read as a standalone.

Thank you NorthSouth Books and NetGalley!

A cute little story written like a rhyme. Read through it in a few minutes. Extra fun and whimsical for those who appreciate rock and metal.

What a cute, fun book! This book could easily be paired with a drumming or music storytime, even the wooden sticks or showing kids they can make music with anything.

Granted, bugs aren't for everyone, but Goth Moth is adorable (along with the other bugs!). I love the color scheme for the book, as I'd almost expect a much darker theme, this one feels warm and welcoming

Great illustration and a really cute story to go with it. I like it and would recommend it to young readers!

This is a cute little story of a moth who just wants to rock out. However, the little moth spends more of its time around bugs and crawly things that don't want to hear a peep of noise. Still, this moth gets its day. I love this story and think that the illustrations are really great, giving the haunting but approachable atmosphere of the goth scene in the bug world.

Goth Moth is a moth that goes by his own beat. He dreams of being a drummer but has to overcome his fear of going out during the day. It is a short story with illustrations I would save for kids that like a look with more grit.

The little house is silent, but deep inside, Walter (AKA Goth Moth) is playing a dramatic drum solo in his head. He doesn't every plan to play out loud, but if he gets the chance, he could wow the crowd.

I was expecting a little more from this book. It isn't clear to me what the conflict is or what is resolved, but I did enjoy the whimsical illustrations and playful rhymes, and the ending is satisfying.

Thank you to NorthSouth Books and NetGalley for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

Such a cute story! This is a fun and different take on the theme of stepping out of your comfort zone. I would definitely recommend this to my friends with kids.

This story is so cute! My preschooler is just getting into more music (as in, not just music specifically for kids), so this definitely piqued their interest.
The story is of a moth who loves rock music, and is always practicing... air-drumming. Because he doesn't have a real drum kit. But one day, he gets a chance to play with his favorite band... and finds that he really does know all the beats!
This is a sweet story if you have a little one who likes music - or bugs, I suppose. Or if you're into this sort of music or vibe yourself (kinda emo, from a fashion standpoint), maybe you'd just enjoy sharing that with your little one.

Walter, aka Goth Moth, is a shy moth who likes to rock and pretend to play the drums. Goth Moth wishes he could perform for real in the daytime like his idol Jitterbug instead of at nighttime which others don't like, but is hesitant to do so. But when ends up at one of her concerts and joins the band on stage, he finally gets a chance to shine like he's always dreamed of.

"Goth Moth" was a cute story told in fun rhyming couplets and had stunning artwork that really caught my attention. I loved how the illustrator used light and shadow. There's this faded blending of what looks like newspaper and bits of floral and leaves throughout that worked well with the rest of the art.

Thanks again NorthSouth Books and NetGalley for the e-arc to read in exchange for an honest review!

Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy. This was cute. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is wholesome. It reminded me of a cartoon I used to watch when I was maybe 10 years old.
