Eleven Huskies is the third book in the cozy mystery series staring veterinarian/amateur detective, Peter, who is logical, neurodivergent, and good-hearted. Peter is called out to help a husky sled team that has fallen ill and he quickly determines the dogs have been poisoned. On the same day, a small sea plane is shot down right outside a vacation cabin in the woods. Peter’s brain quickly gets to work on both mysteries, and his sniffer dog, Pippin, is called in to help too.
I picked this book up without having read the first two books and didn’t feel out of step at all. But I will be going back and reading the first two books because I fell for Peter, Pippin, and all their friends right off the bat! Peter is the kind of main character you want to root for, and he’s a positive rep for autistic people. Pippin is the perfect adventuring partner: loyal, hardworking, and silly in the way all dogs are. I also loved getting to know Peter’s wife and brother-in-law as their sibling antics add lighthearted juxtaposition to the crimes at the core of the mystery. But don’t get me wrong, there isn’t on page violence and *spoiler* none of the dogs die.
If you’re looking for an animal centered cozy mystery with lovable characters and a scenic setting, this book is for you!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
When I stumbled upon “Eleven Huskies: A Dr. Bannerman Vet Mystery” by Philipp Schott, I was immediately intrigued, being a Canadian and a husky owner myself. This captivating story, set against the backdrop of Canada’s wilderness, surpassed all my expectations, especially when experienced through the engaging narration by Miles Meili in its audiobook format.
Peter Bannerman, a veterinarian and amateur detective, embarks on a summer vacation with his family to a remote fishing lodge in northern Manitoba. What starts as a peaceful getaway soon turns into a series of chilling events, including the poisoning of the lodge’s sled team of huskies and a tragic plane crash. As Peter races against time to uncover the truth, the suspenseful plot keeps listeners on the edge of their seats with each unexpected twist and turn.
Schott’s storytelling skills bring the wilderness to life, immersing listeners in the heart of the action. The mystery is skillfully crafted, keeping me guessing until the very end. Miles Meili’s narration adds depth and immersion to the experience, enhancing the overall enjoyment of the story.
If you’re a fan of outdoor adventures, gripping mysteries, and, of course, dogs, “Eleven Huskies” is a must-listen, and can be read as a standalone to the series. I highly recommend preordering this gem in audiobook format for a thrilling journey. This exciting tale releases on May 14th, both in digital and paperback formats, with the audiobook likely available on the same day, although it’s not officially listed on the publisher’s website.
This is the third book to feature vet Dr Peter Bannerman, also the first one I have listened to/read, and I felt no need to have read any of the previous books, as this stands well without any prior knowledge of the characters. It's a lighthearted mystery, that can be listened to and enjoyed anytime, whether on a walk or completing your household chores.
The characters and their relationships are easy to connect with, the animals are adorable, the plot is intriguing, and it keeps your curiosity piqued and your interest high.
Another book on the vet mysteries! Just like the previous one this is a fun mystery involving a lot of different animals and cute dogs.
Vet Peter Bannerman gets involved in another murder mystery while treating one of his patients. This time he's treating some huskies and finds out that they were actually poisoned. Once again Pippin saves the day with his almost magical sense of smell.
This is a fun and quick read.
