This is an intense story, but I expected no less from this author. T.I. Lowe is an extremely talented author and her southern style of writing is the icing on the cake. The story is captivating. I wanted to be there helping to revive the old abandoned town. The main characters are realistic and relatable. One of them won me over quickly, while the other frustrated me for most of the story. But I guess that’s a sign of a good writer who can make you feel such strong feelings for the characters. Overall I recommend this story if you like intense, second-chance, love stories. Also, if you like home renovation shows with southern flair, you will like this too. This is my honest opinion based on the complimentary review copy sent by NetGalley and the publisher. I was not required to give a favorable review.

“Cell phones carry ten times more bacteria than most toilet seats.” Quite an interesting first line that leads the reader to Somewhere, SC—a small ghost town where not only a house is being flipped, but the entire town is being restored! Not a huge fan of HGTV (except to watch while sitting in the waiting room at the Dr's office), I couldn't even fathom what it would take to restore an entire town back to its former glory. A lot of creativity, sweat, grit, and hard work, for sure!

Avalee Elvis owns a company called Lowcountry Lost who excels at these rehabbing projects. When a handsome structural engineer shows up from her past, the reminders of the grief and loss they both suffered threaten to overcome Avalee.

To know Rowan Murray is to love him. What a charmer he is—witty, funny, hardworking, mischievous, and that Irish brogue. Oh, these characters, y'all! And Somewhere, SC, is in my neck of the woods . . . somewhere. 🤔 Lowcountry Lost is a warm, heartrending story of hope, redemption, and second chances with just enough romance to make "my insides go all warm and gooey." Perfect quote from the book to describe the way I felt!

Oh my T.I. Lowe has done it again! She has left me with a story that I will be thinking about for a long time! The deep love, healing, and restoration themes (and characters) of this story will leave your heart broken but then put back together feeling hopeful and filled. If you are looking for a deep and emotional second chance romance with an HGTV/Fixer Upper feel this one is for you! I loved this book! Avalee thrives off of restoring neglected places. When she tackles an entire ghost town, she discovers that even her broken heart can be restored. Aspects of faith are sprinkled throughout, but I never felt like I was being preached at. Truth flowed naturally through the story. This story reminded me of the truth that making a hard thing matter, doesn’t mean that you are making it worth it. You don’t have to love the hard thing you have went through, or are going through, in order for it to bring meaning and purpose to your life.

"Our traumas and losses might have different patterns, and different stitches of life held them together, but in the end, all of them still formed pain."

This is actually my first TI Lowe book and I am completely astounded. How have I not read her books before? The author has found herself another fan and I need to start blazing through her backlist ASAP. The premise of two estranged lovers with a tragic past and a possibility for reconciliation is reminiscent of Denise Hunter and Rachel Hauck's stories - so fans of these authors will appreciate this book. It has it all - terrible heartache and ashes of loss and regret, hope blossoming into redemption and remembrance, everyday faith lessons, patient and steadfast love that endures space and time and mistakes, and discovery of what family means. I cried sad ugly tears and happy tears as Avalee and Rowan demoed a forgotten town to revitalize and beautify it while letting God do the same with their hearts and souls.

Avalee's first person voice was spunky, snarky, raw, tender, and oftentimes heartbreaking. Avalee was the sole narrator of the story so Rowan's beautiful character was portrayed through his words and actions as well as Avalee's memories of him. Oh, Rowan is one unforgettable hero, full of confidence, ability, mischief, tenderness, thoughtfulness, and unshakable love for Avalee. Their shared pain was so real and tangible; the author did a great job approaching a sensitive topic with respect and honesty. I also loved Avalee's grandma Maudie, her business partner Desmond, and the whole host of secondary characters making up the construction crew.

If you enjoy uplifting contemporary romance, you will definitely want to pick up this book. I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Tyndale House Publishers via Interviews and Reviews and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

Renovating a home is a big deal…renovating an entire town is HUGE!! Along with that, the main characters find themselves hopefully giving their long lost relationship perhaps not as lost as they thought.
A beautiful story of things once lost being found again.

Okay so this was my first read by this author but now I’m definitely going to read more.
This was beautifully written. I loved the theme of restoring and making nowhere, Somewhere. I love that through all of the difficult topics presented in this book, it was navigated well and had the perfect balance of humor to top it off.
Now, onto the next book by this author, because wow!
Thank you @netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion!

2.25 stars

This is so difficult for me to write because I LOVED Lulu’s Cafe. I enjoyed Under the Magnolias by this author, too. When I saw the ghost town renovation aspect and read the synopsis, I expected to enjoy it. It also has a fabulous cover.

It’s hard to explain but I didn’t enjoy this relatively clean fiction book. It took me over three weeks to read it. Sometimes that happens though—a person can enjoy some books by an author and not others and that’s okay.

For me, the highlights of this book were the teenage boy and the dog. I loved those characters. I never really felt a liking or connection toward Avalee. I felt uncomfortable with a few situations and innuendoes in the book. This book had a lot to do with community and I never felt any attachment to the community or the other minor characters, excepting Loreen.

The storyline never grabbed me and it was hard for me to keep going. The last 15% or so of the novel was much better for me personally and I’m so glad it ended as I suspected it would! There were a couple of passages toward the end that were particularly touching to me.

It contains dealing with trauma and grief, divorce, a second chance at love, reviving a ghost town, and more. The writing is good. The storyline wasn’t a fit for this reader but others may respond to it very positively.

Loved this so much. The story is a heavy one, filled with very real loss and grief, that so many of us have walked thru but I think oftentimes doesn’t get talked about. The book presented that in a way that was compassionate and understanding, while I thought it was completely beautiful.

If you, like me, can identify with Avalee and Rowan’s loss, following their story will be hard and hit so close to home, and yet feel in a way itself like home - welcoming and compassionate and me-too. Even tho my response in my own losses was very different than Avalee’s, I felt their loss in such a real way and could empathize with what they both felt. Their story was really well written, and I loved both the sorrow and the redemption the book presented. It was perfect the way the book showed that wholeness and healing may look different than we originally plan or expect. So so many good nuggets of wisdom. Make sure you have the tissues at the end.

I think I loved just about every character in the book, but my favorite was Rowen. But I won’t give any of that away. ;)

(Side note: the forward in the book alludes to the content and type of loss it deals with. For some of my fellow readers who have just walked thru this also, this may be one you want to be aware of before you begin. See StoryGraph for content warnings if so. Absolutely the perfect heartfelt read, and a new favorite, but we all know some wounds need to heal a little if they’re too new first)

Thanks to Netgalley for the advanced copy of this book. All opinions are mine.

TI Lowe is a masterful storyteller who has woven together a beautiful story of forgiveness, healing, and family! This story will capture your heart and mind from the opening pages until the very end. I found myself laughing out loud, crying, and wanting this book to never end.

Avalee Elvis and her team set out to renovate a ghost town in South Carolina. As work begins, Avalee finds herself face to face with her ex husband whom she hasn’t seen in six years. Bringing Somewhere to life again brings more than just work as she is faced with her past as well as unearthed surprises.

I absolutely loved this book! I hated to see it end and it will definitely be one that I will reread for years to come.

T.I. Lowe is a fabulous author who can really pull at your heartstrings with her authentic writing style and imperfect but lovable characters. This story has many unique and inspiring elements from the location set in a reconstructed ghost town to the themes of loss and second chances. The plot was engaging and quick moving. I loved how well Rowdy knew his wife and sacrificed so much to give her the space and time to heal when he himself was lost in grief. It’s a perspective not often talked about. The most important lesson I learned from this novel is that we struggle in this life with loss, hardship, and death and we often question why and often we never get the answer to that question. So we cling to Jesus and trust He is good and can be trusted. His ways are greater than ours.

I was excited to get an early copy of this book, (releasing in Sept), since I was a huge fan of her book, Indigo Isle.

This is the story of a young woman, Avalee, whose reconstruction company “Lowcountry Lost” has just embarked on a major revitalization of an abandoned small town she charmingly renamed Somewhere, South Carolina. However, the historic downtown buildings aren’t the only things that need restoring. Avalee’s life is in shambles after she suffered unthinkable tragedies that she let destroy her marriage to her childhood sweetheart, Rowan.

She is surprised when her ex-husband, Rowdy/Rowan, appears as a contractor on her construction site. He’s never stopped loving her, and she never considered that he suffered grief over their past as well. They share some tender moments of healing over the months working on this project alongside each other. My favorite being when she offered him the pickles off her Chick-fil-A sandwich, because she knows how much he loves them.

There is a bashful teenage runaway that they put to work and show him how to develop skills that he will apply to a significant restoration of his own. They take in a stray dog hiding out in the chapel that thy name Preacher. And even bring closure to a long unsolved mystery that had been haunting their cherished ghost town.

This is a wholesome book, chockful of southern charm. It will appeal to readers that enjoy watching fix-up shows with couples that bring new life to dilapidated structures. It also has Christian roots and sprinkles in scriptures and prayers to bring comfort to wounded souls.

As a renovation enthusiast, the premise of *Lowcountry Lost* immediately caught my attention. After all, it’s set around the restoration of an entire ghost town - so cool!

This would have easily been a four star read, but it ended up being too romantic/kiss-y for my taste, (there were a few innuendos/suggestive comments as well as some too detailed kisses + some really cringy scenes).

Otherwise, I found this enjoyable and I’d love to move to Somewhere if it were a real town!

I’d recommend *Lowcountry Lost* to those who like found family, renovations, a contemporary setting, and second chance romances. Please note that grief, miscarriages, a broken marriage, and divorce are central topics - if I knew this I don’t think I would’ve read it as I wasn’t the target audience.

If I had to use just one word to sum up Lowcountry Lost, that one word would simply be restoration. On the surface, of course, the story centers around the restoration of the rundown and abandoned town of Somewhere, North Carolina. If you love HGTV, this will definitely be a definite plus for you! Beyond that though, it serves as such a perfect backdrop for the restoration of a marriage that has been torn apart by tragedy and loss. I always adore a good second chance romance, and I think there is something even more special about that when it is a marriage being restored. Rowan and Avalee definitely have a lot to work through, but I enjoyed watching the healing in each of them and their relationship throughout the story. I absolutely adored Rowan's flirting and charm and thought that added some much-needed lightness to their story too. Throw in some fantastic side characters and there really was so much to love in this story.

While I don't want to give any spoilers, I do want to make note of potentially triggering content that I personally would have appreciated knowing beforehand due to my own experiences. (Stop reading here if you'd prefer not to know.)

It is important to note that this story deals quite heavily with the topic of miscarriage/infant loss. The author did a truly wonderful job of not just covering this topic with grace and sensitivity, but also in a way that felt very real to those emotions felt. As someone who has experienced recurrent miscarriages, I appreciated seeing my own thoughts and feelings reflected in the characters' experiences... but it also made it a really difficult one for me to read too. I loved the story, but I did have to step away several times when it became too much for my own mental health. Please keep this in mind if it's a trigger for you as well. In the end though, it really was a story filled with hope and healing, and one that I was glad to have read.

This exquisitely crafted tale offers readers an insight into a unique relationship—one in which the couple's need for space and time apart is essential to their working relationship and beyond. This book explores the transformative potential of unconditional love and how it can bring about inner healing. It might even give Rowan Murray and Avalee Elvis, who have been plagued by past trauma, a newfound possibility for the future.

The characters are straightforward, sincere, driven, and a little disorganized. It felt like I was part of the restoration process as the town was transformed into its former beauty. The narrative is as beautiful as the natural surroundings of the abandoned ghost town. Together, Avalee and Rowan’s hope is to restore this town and mend their broken spirits along the way.

I enjoyed the surprises, along with the twists and turns. The characters warmed my heart, and I found myself rooting for them as they worked hard to meet the grand opening deadline.

The author also brings up the question, "Can a person be a ghost town? A person is comparable to an abandoned town when everyone and everything abandons you, but the trauma"

There are themes of loss, infertility, and abandonment. If you like stories of second chances and are a fan of restoration on HGTV, you’ll love this book. This novel would work well for your next book club pick.

T.I. Lowe has done it again! I’ve read several books by Lowe and loved them so I knew I would this one as well. It’s a beautiful story of second chances, healing, and new beginnings. I also loved how Lowe included little easter eggs, as I call them, from her previous novels. I felt all the emotions while reading Lowcountry

That was...a highly emotional read for me. It was such a great book that I had trouble putting it down, but I feel that it needs a trigger warning. I had no idea the subject matter would be so personal. If you've ever lost a baby to miscarriage or stillbirth, know that it's probably going to bring up some memories. With that said, the premise behind the book is unique and I enjoyed it very much!
