I had the amazing opportunity to read an ARC of this book through NetGalley, which was fantastic, because I loved Confino’s other books. This book did not disappoint, and had me from the first chapter Confino is gifted at drawing you in and making her characters relatable, and the humor that shines through often has me laughing out loud, but on top of it, this book has strong empowering women, who make a difference at a time when that was not an easy task for a woman. Highly recommended this book.

Sara Goodman Confine with her latest novel, Behind Every Good Man, doesn't disappoint.. What a fun read!! Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Beverly is a wife and a stay at home mom in the 1960's who bends over backwards to do it all for her family. One day she goes into her husband, Larry's, office to find him committing adultery with his young secretary. Rather than crumble, she decides to take matters into her own hands and work to get revenge by taking a position of campaign manager for Michael Landau who's opponent in the upcoming election is Larry's boss.

The story unfolds and becomes so much more than just an angry wife seeking revenge on her loser husband. Bev is such a strong, and determined women who doesn't let any obstacle stand in her way. I was rooting for her throughout the entire story and enjoyed watching her character evolve into even more of a badass.

This is such a feel good book with a great bunch of characters. The author does an incredible job developing all of the characters throughout the entirety of the story. I loved them all (except Larry of course) and loved how the women characters were the main focus.

Book releases in August 2024, so make sure you get your hands on a copy!!

This was okay but you knew how this was going to end. I did really like that Beverly was so strong and stood up for herself and in the 1960s that was not happening so much. Larry was a jerk and I wanted him to just go away. I would have liked to see some interaction between the candidates but understand that might have been hard.

I have read Sara's previous three books and have loved them all. This one is definitely a favorite of mine for 2024. The characters and storyline are unique and this is not a book I found to be predictable. The way Sara writes makes me feel like I am in the story and watching the plot play out in real time, right in front of me. I feel like I know the characters personally. I found myself unable to put this book down and I read it in one setting because I just had to see how things turned out for Beverly. I have no reservations in giving this book five stars.

Sara Goodman Confino had done it again. A powerful women’s fiction read that puts us back to the 1960s. It blends family, politics, friendship, and romance all in one. I also enjoyed it for the strong representation of Jewish characters.

The main character, Beverly Diamond, life is turned upside down, when her husband is caught cheating on her with his secretary. This is the event that pushes her to make changes in her life.

The story takes place in 1960s Maryland suburb of Washington DC. The story moves between her struggling and overcoming obstacles in her life, marriage, parenting and being a daughter. She rises above the expectations of women at the time and doesn’t give up even when it is challenging.

I loved how the women in the book took center stage and the men’s stories where the backdrop. I highly recommend reading this book and you will feel empowered too.

As a self -proclaimed Sara Goodman Confino fan, I went into this book with high hopes. I can accurately say that it did not disappoint! Another ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me!! Set in the 1960’s where women were to take care of their men, be seen and not heard, and just keep the peace, I loved how Beverly Diamond broke the barriers and set her own way while going through a difficult time!

Ok, that’s it! Sara Goodman Confino is officially my newest auto-read author. I will read anything she puts out there. (Sadly, since her new book, Behind Every Good Man doesn’t come out until August 6th, that might be awhile.) Lucky for me, there are still two of her backlist books I haven’t read yet, so I have those to look forward to! If you haven’t read her last book, Don’t Forget to Write, what are you waiting for? I recommend it to everyone!

I absolutely loved this hilarious and heartwarming story of a wronged wife who goes toe to toe with her cheating husband at the polls.

Sadly, I tore through it in two days; I couldn't put it down. I kept thinking, one more chapter. Just one more chapter. And now it’s finished and I’m sad not to get to spend any more time with the characters I grew to care deeply about.

This fast-paced and witty book has everything. There’s a strong female protagonist, a romance, and even a cameo from Marilyn from Don’t Forget to Write.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough!

Thank you to @NetGalley and @LakeUnionPublishing for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Just like with all of her other books, this is a fantastic book by Sara Goodman Confino. From the minute that I started it, I could not wait to get back to it every day to see what would happen next. Many laugh out loud moments made the book utterly enjoyable. I can't wait for other people to read it.

A fun novel about a spunky, smart woman whose life is changed when she catches her husband cheating. Perfect beach read.

Sara Goodman Confino is quickly becoming my new favorite author!! This is the fourth book I have read of hers and it was OUTSTANDING! I absolutely loved Bev, Michael, Nancy, Mildred, there were so many great characters in this book, I could go on and on! The fact that Bev bounced back from such a traumatic experience with Larry and came back even stronger, she was an inspiration! In taking charge of her own life and making the best of a crappy situation, Bev showed us (especially female readers) that you can do so much, even things that might be outside of the norm. In an era when women were expected to sit at home, tend to the children and the house, have meals at the ready when your husband comes home, and just look pretty - it was refreshing to see someone who pushed back. I really enjoyed the glimpse into the world of politics in 1962 and loved the view into the world of women and minorities during that time frame. Overall, Sara does such an amazing job building characters and relationships and giving you insight into their lives. I have yet to be disappointed by her books and this one lived up to the hype and then some. I cannot wait to recommend it to others and will anxiously be awaiting to add her newest title to my TBR list!

I received an advanced copy of this book and was excited to read it after recently finishing and enjoying "Don't Forget to Write" by the same author. While I had high hopes for a similar reading experience, I didn't enjoy this one as much. I personally didn't love the heavy focus on politics and the whole plot felt unrealistic to me so I didn't find myself as invested in the story. I did enjoy the inclusion of several characters from "Don't Forget to Write" (it's not necessary to have read it, but fun if you have!) and the similar messages of female empowerment. It's definitely not a bad book, but someone who likes politics more than I do may enjoy it more. 3/5

Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for sharing an advanced copy to read and review. The publishing date is August 6, 2024.

Sara Goodman Confino knocked it out of the park once again with her latest novel, due out in August. Definitely add this to your To Be Read list!

The story centers around Beverly, who catches her husband in the act with his secretary early on. Bev has to figure out how to move forward after her awful discovery—and she decides to get involved with a politics campaign for an up and coming candidate, who just so happens to be running against her cheating husband’s boss.

The 1960s setting made this book extra interesting for me, and I loved the trailblazing attitude Bev took toward engaging women in their campaign strategy. I also learned something—I didn’t realize the legal voting age was 21 back then!

I found myself literally laughing out loud at various times throughout this story. The writing is witty and the characters are colorful. I also loved the nod to some of the characters from Confino’s last book, “Don’t Forget to Write.”

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!

Wow, what a fantastic book! It's hard to believe that the author could fit so much depth and substance into this lighthearted fun read, but given how good her previous books are, I shouldn't have been surprised. Behind Every Good Man is the kind of book that keeps you coming back for more, with characters that are believable and realistic. I loved how strong and empowering Beverly was, standing up to her husband's indiscretions and deciding to work instead of relying on him. I loved how there were so many characters in the book that supported her along the way, and how readers could see her mother evolve and change in her own marriage. These themes of empowerment and strength in women, even though it takes place in the 1960s, still has such relevance today. Hats off to Sara Goodman Confino for delivering another amazing book!

Sara's latest novel, "Behind Every Good Man," captivates from the opening line to the final acknowledgments, much like her previous works. Beverly and Millie, reminiscent of iconic figures like Marilyn and Ada, shine as larger-than-life characters. Their wit, intelligence, and unwavering determination make them incredibly endearing. Sara skillfully intertwines feminism and historical events, crafting a story that blends women's fiction with historical fiction. Reading this book, I found myself transported to the 1960s, longing to witness firsthand the remarkable achievements of these remarkable women. Beverly and Millie are true exemplars of strength and leadership, and anyone who crosses their path had better beware!

SGC does it again with a witty whimsical take no prisoners female lead who makes you laugh, cry, and see so much of yourself in her! I couldn’t put this book down, which was hard because I read it during spring break and needed to keep one eye on my kids in the pool. If only I had a Millie (or a Rosa) to help me keep an eye on them!

LOVED this book, which is no surprise since I've loved all of Sara's books! The characters are so engaging and the story building is amazing. I was tickled to have a few characters from other books make an appearance too!
Can't wait for Sara's next book!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing the ARC for "Behind Every Good Man." I won't give away any plots twists (there's plenty of details already posted), but I will say that I truly enjoyed this book. I was alive in 1962 (but just barely), so grew up relatively unaware of the inequitable treatment of women at that time. This book, in addition to being HILARIOUS, is a commentary on the plight of many women as society began to change, but quite often the "good old boy network" did not. I remember that when I was young, none of the moms in my neighborhood worked outside the home. Conversely, my older sister and I both worked while raising children. What a difference a generation made!

Thank you, Sara Goodman Confino, for a strong and determined female lead character. When times got tough, she got tougher. I encourage any reader who enjoys a well-crafted and clever book to pick up "Behind Every Good Man." I promise you there's a great woman to discover!
