I was promised a smutty Peter Pan retelling and this accomplished that. But for the overall plot, I have no idea what was happening. The erotica wasn't believable and I have no idea outside of the erotica of what was the point of the story. This is definitely one of my least favorite Peter Pan retellings.

I love a good retelling! I really enjoyed the idea behind Losing Neverland. The story jumps between past and present, where you get to see how Peter Pan and Hook became one of the same and the relationship between Wendy and Pan, but did get to be a little confusing at times.

Unfortunately, while reading I kept feeling like something was missing. The story needed more showing rather than telling us. The end seemed extremely rushed. I also felt I was left with more questions than answers..... I also would've preferred that the characters been portrayed as a little older....

*Thank you Netgalley for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

DNF. I'm bewildered. Right hold on... this is the same author as Hooking Peter? Why are we writing TWO peter pan retellings under different names? I am so confused.

2.5/5 ⭐

Well, smut 70% and other 30% (I don't know what was the other at all)

Let's start with this that I had completely different expectations from this book (hence the rating). I was taken by surprise that Hook and Pan were the same person and that Wendy was 40 years old who hooked with underaged 17 year old Pan.

Here now, I know that there are trigger warning for the reversed age gap but make it at least 18 to be of a legal age. And being here - very well experienced for people who are not so experienced - I found it a bit ridiculous.

Also the switching constantly between then and now was a bit tiring and unnecessary filling of the book.

I enjoyed the Neverland world- maybe this was the best part of the book.

What was that ending - at the end did they or they didn't???.

And what was with the Tiger Lily?! Tinker Bell was the bad guy (girly ok) but what was her problem at all??

All in all I have a very mixed feelings about this retelling. I am not entirely sure that I can recommend it. Maybe if you are after the smut then it might be a solid 3.

Thank you to Netgalley the ARC . The review above is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own.

I love a good, dark and spicy reimagining of Peter Pan. The pace was great! The writing was amazing and I loved the dark tones and spice! This was my first read by this author, but I will be purchasing the other books in the series.

I love stories that retell stories that I am already familiar with. That being said, this one leaned a little too much on the smut vs plot for my taste. The writing is excellent and I love the chemistry between the characters, but I am missing a plot to sink my teeth into. It's also worth noting, as with many others, I'm not a huge fan of the fact that although he's much older, Peter still looks like a 17 year old boy. Overall this was a good book!

Losing Neverland by Evelyn Montgomery is a dark, twisted reimagining of Peter Pan that blurs the lines between fantasy and psychological suspense. It dives deep into themes of trauma, memory, and love, following a protagonist caught in a labyrinth of haunting memories and a desperate need to escape the shadows of her past.

This story is raw, intense, and full of layers, with each chapter unraveling more secrets. Montgomery’s gritty interpretation of the classic tale adds a fresh edge, making it a compelling and unforgettable read. While it may not be my favorite Peter Pan retelling, it left a significant impression.

Was it what I expected? Not entirely. Did I enjoy it? Absolutely. Am I haunted by the way it ended? Yes—and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

From the beginning, I was braced for something dark, crude, and intricate—something that would grip me so tightly I couldn’t put it down. And that’s exactly what happened. The lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers dynamic is brutal and mesmerizing, filled with tension, spice, and raw emotion. The morally grey villain grappling with a personal vendetta and wavering resolve brought depth and complexity, leaving me torn—and hopelessly enamored.

The steamy scenes and darker moments were perfectly woven into the fabric of this magical yet unsettling tale. And like Wendy, I fell hard for him, unable to look away from his compelling contradictions.

It’s not a story for the faint of heart, but it’s a wild, dark, and enchanting ride I’m so glad I got to experience.

What. A. Ride. Totally unexpected. This is my first time reading Montgomery but wow! The world building, characters, all of it. There are a LOT of triggers and I would caution readers that this is a DARK romance. Peter/Hook and Wendy's story had me going through a range of emotions for the entire book...until about 85% of the way. Then the last 15% felt rushed as it is setting you up for a second story in this world. Overall, very good. Thank you for allowing me to read it.

In my opinion, I think the idea was very good, but I found it missing a better execution. Nevertheless, I liked the author's writing style, and I don't discard reading anything else by her.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the copy of this book.

I couldn't get into this book. There's wasn't really much of a plot as such and what there was felt confused at times.
Ultimately I DNF'd this book around 50%

A Peter Pan retelling with a spicy twist. Peter Pan has history with Wendy, but it's not the one we remember from childhood. Peter and Hook are the same man. Wendy is all grown up. And Tink is evil.

This version of the book is way better than the previous version I read by this author written under a different name. I really enjoyed how this retelling got totally twisted around and is nothing like the original fairytale.

I felt the gaps were filled with the information and events that were lacking in the other version. The spice is spicy and doesn't hold back. The characters all have a darkness to them, it gives this creepy or sinister vibe throughout the book. I enjoyed how the story wrote the beginning of Wendy and Peter's story throughout the book.

Thank you to Netgalley, Evelyn Montgomery, and the publishers for this free ebook. This review is 10o% my own and honest review.

Dark Peter Pan retelling and I’m here for it! I love that he went back for Wendy years later. Spice and second chance romance, swoon. There is a trigger free version of this book but I definitely don’t want it!! Definitely recommend.

I really enjoyed the past and present aspect of the book to create the story of Peter and Hook being one character but everything else was kind of just mediocre. There were some things that happened in the book that didn’t really have a purpose and probably could have done without.

Book review 📚
Losing Neverland by Evelyn Montgomery
⭐⭐

I am so sorry to leave such a low review, but my goodness. I love a retelling and even better a dark retelling.

What I do not like is almost no plot or story line. I DNF The Ever King for the same reason. I need some sort of plot and story to keep me more interested.

This book was an intense out-of-body experience that completely transported me to another world. The juxtaposition of Peter Pan in a dark and twisted setting was absolutely mind-blowing. My younger self was overwhelmed with emotion, screaming, crying, and even feeling physically ill at times. As an adult, revisiting this story and reimagining it through a darker lens was both exhilarating and nostalgic. The intense emotions and vivid imagery had me experiencing a wide range of feelings, making it a truly unforgettable read.

I recently had the opportunity to read "Losing Neverland" by Evelyn Montgomery, and I was completely enthralled by the imaginative and dark reinterpretation of the classic tale of Peter Pan. The story presents a captivating and unconventional perspective as it unravels the hidden truths and untold secrets behind the beloved characters of Peter, Hook, and Wendy.

Montgomery's masterful storytelling and evocative prose skillfully subvert the traditional narrative, offering a fresh and intriguing take on the iconic myth of Neverland. The enigmatic and complex portrayal of Wendy Moira Angela Darling, who emerges as a central figure in the story, adds depth and mystery to the plot, keeping the reader engrossed and guessing until the final page.

The author's ability to blend elements of fantasy, mystery, and psychological depth creates a haunting and atmospheric reading experience. The narrative unfolds with a sense of foreboding and tension, drawing the reader into a world where nothing is as it seems, and every character harbors hidden truths and motivations.

"Losing Neverland" is a mesmerizing and thought-provoking novel that challenges preconceived notions and breathes new life into a well-loved story. Fans of reimagined fairy tales and dark fantasy will find themselves drawn into Montgomery's richly textured and hauntingly beautiful portrayal of a familiar tale turned on its head. I highly recommend this book to anyone in search of a unique and compelling read that lingers in the imagination long after the last page is turned.

The Peter Pan Retelling I didn't realize I needed!

I found the concept of Losing Neverland quite fascinating. The story shifts between past and present, revealing how Peter Pan and Hook became intertwined and exploring the evolving relationship between Wendy and Pan.

THE WAY I DEVOURED THISS!! I loved it so much.

I tried to like this book but just couldn’t. I felt like there wasn’t enough character development to help flesh out the story/plot. I also couldn’t quite figure out how old Peter was, which made me dislike the romance aspect (was he just 13 throughout the book??).

What did I just read? Who ends a romance book like that! The audacity! But seriously....all joking aside.....I'm confused.

Are they going to rewrite their story? Do they get their HEA? Explain how John gave up Michael. Take away the fact that she wrote adult characters and say they were 17. Nothing about them was a child. Not their language, not their bodies, not their personalities, nothing. Why add an age that obviously doesn't fit just to go along with a fairytale you totally changed?

I just have so many questions. And things I would change. Was it bad? No. Was it outstanding? No.

The author wrote a new take on Peter Pan and I loved the whole Hook spin. I loved how she rewrote some of the original characters to fit this tale. The darker side of Pan as he wants to grow up with the only girl he's ever known. The scene where he goes to her room and she sees him cry. Ouch.

Yes the author has something here. But please change the icky parts and then you will have something outstanding. Also, give me that HEA.
