That cliffhanger! Ugh!
Moving to New York seems like such a scary thing to do but when an extremely extroverted man finds out you bought the last pastry at the café, compliments your artwork, introduces you to all of his amazing roommates, AND gives you a place to love? Now that's a dream!
The artwork is so beautifully done with just the right amount of exaggeration. I love all of the representation and the beautiful menagerie of characters. I can not wait for the next volume to what happens next 🥰

Drag queens yayayay
This book was really sweet tbh, It is a book but her luck was great on who she met first

an amazing coming-of-age graphic novel with beautiful art on every page!
the story is heartwarming and has many different representations, but I hope we will get more female characters who are part of the LGBTQ+ community.
I can't wait for Volume 2 as Volume 1 ends on a cliffhanger.
I highly recommend it to everyone, no matter your age, having a supportive community is the best thing you can ask for.

Thank you netgally for this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
I wasn't aware this was a comic when I requested it. I saw the cover, requested, and didn't thin about it again until it landed in my inbox. Turns out, I confused it with the novel by Kelly deVos. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this. There were a few pacing issues that I noticed, it felt like I was getting whiplash during some of the scenes and just how quickly we would go from one panel to another. But that’s my only negative!! Otherwise, I really enjoyed it and I had such a fun time reading!! I can't wait for volume two!!

Thank you to NetGalley, the Publisher and the Author for this chance!!!!
I really really enjoyed this one!
I devoured it!!
I want MORE!!!!
We follow Blanca, who leaves home at 18 to make it in New York where she meets Emile and moves in with him and his many roommates. We got to meet everyone one on one, as Blanca has personal conversations with them and learns about their personal struggles and stories. I new her "true love" was too good to be true and called him out immediately. If only Blanca could see.
Her mother is strict and bossy and she probably has her reasons for pushing her daughter in a certain direction, but that woman has obviously some unsolved issues and gives of very "EVIL STEPMOTHER" vibes.....😆
I love the representation the LGBTQ+ Community gets.
Loved it!
Need Vol 2 NOW!!!

Eat your heart out was a fun story and one I'm excited to continue. Thrown into the world of fashion and drag and a bustling apartment and city meant for so many character introductions and so many future possibilities for this story.
This cut off point and the romantic interest felt confusing to me, and I couldn't get a grasp for the plot in totality. This story has a lot of potential but I would need to read the next volume to decide my feelings on it.
Beautifully illustrated!

Thank you Net Galley for this E-Arc. Eat Your Heart Out is an adorable queer graphic novel about finding yourself as well as found family. The story revolves around Blanca a girl who ran away from home to pursue designing. She is taken in by a group of queer people in New York and starts to find herself. Since this is the first volume I don't want to critique it to harshly. The graphic design is adorable and the cast is very diverse but the story is flat. It feels like the entire novel is filler episodes for a bigger plot line but the story hasn't developed into more. I am looking forward to the rest of the series and I hope the next volume gives more insight and depth to the story.

Queer found family graphic novel please save me! I didn’t know much about this book before reading it, but I had such a fun time with Blanca and the residents of the brownstone that she ends up living in after running away to New York to pursue her passion in fashion design. It’s a little bit of a fairytale steeped in queer NY culture and the idealism of a new start. The art is big and colourful and so perfect for the story that’s being told, one with so many characters with their own stories that we get to uncover alongside Blanca’s. Drag queens, being queer and non-white, older queers who’ve known love and loss, all that and more. There’s also the evil not-step mother of Blanca trying to find her and bring her back (and the little plot twist at the end made me gasp even though I had already guessed it). Basically, I am very invested in this comic and all its characters (because did I mention the queer found family). I’m very excited to see what else the authors bring to the story, and recommending it so we can all enjoy together!

Eat your heart out volume 1 by Terry Blas and Matty Newton - review
2.5⭐️
First of all thank you very much to Netgalley and Oni Press for the e-arc of the graphic novel Eat your heart out volume 1 by Terry Blass and Matty Newton in return for a honest review.
This was such an enjoyable read. Especially since I read Heartstopper I’ve been on the look out for more graphic novels that are a bit like it and this one definitely is a fun one to read.
Eat your heart out volume 1 is about Blanca, a run away teen. She is very passioned about fashion, and wants to pursue a career in fashion, however her mom is quite overbearing and strict and wants her to go to business school.
When Blanca finds the possibility she decides to leave, because if she doesn’t go now than she might as well never go. But following your passion is not as easy as thought. Especially going to New York on your own with nothing. But in New York she meets Emile, a very kind baker, who takes her under his wing.
With Emile come his electic roommates, all living in Brownstone. Together they try to make their dreams come true.
This was such a cute coming of age story and the visuals where just gorgeous and soo cute. I loved the character drawings soo much.
However, I felt their were soo many roommates that it was sometimes a bit confusing who is who and I also felt like sometimes pieces of the story were missing, it just went soo fast paced. It almost felt rushed, soo many things happend in soo little pages and some of the transitions between pages felt a bit weird, like a part was missing.
It could have been really good, if it went a bit more in-depth and had some better transitions. Overall it was enjoyable, just not wow 🥰.
Eat your heart out volume 1 will be released August 13th.

"Eat Your Heart Out" is a really interesting and beautifully illustrated Graphic Novel. I really liked the drawing style and the chosen colours.
It was fun and easy to read, but sometimes it felt like a lot happened at once. The Graphic Novel itself is pretty short and it was a bit overwhelming at times. This is sadly only the first volume and the next one will release someday next year. I would have liked the story more, if it was longer or when I could already read the next volume.
I'm interested in how the story will unfold and how Blanca and her new friends will solve their problems.

This story is about Blanca, who runs away from her mother to follow her dreams to pursue fashion design in the New York. She meets a baker Emile who takes her in.
This apartment is full of queer people who are trying to follow their own dreams. Friendships blossom between Blanca and the roommates and we follow them as they all help each other grow and achieve their dreams.

Super enjoyable read, I sped through this one and would love to see where Blanca ends up, it’s great seeing how she has taken herself away from the situation that she no longer wants to allow herself to gain the happiness she deserves.

I loved this! I loved meeting all the characters and learning of their history and goals, and then seeing everyone’s dynamic together that made a fun world to follow. Blanca is a fun main character who I want to read more of. I like the little twist at the end and wish it was longer so I could read more about them!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I requested this graphic novel because the cover is so captivating, seeing such a diverse cast laid out made me want to get them all.
This story contains a huge ensemble and at times it is a little difficult to keep up with who is who but I think that added to the charm of everyone living together in one house. I'm really excited to see where the rest of this story goes and hope to be able to read the next volume when it's ready.
There are so many lovable characters introduced, I really enjoyed seeing how each of them interacted with Blanca. I'm interested to see how the story develops between her and her mother and how this will resolve. I also really enjoyed seeing the different cultures coming together and experiencing how the characters educated and supported each other.
I highly recommend anyone look for a light read with found family and queer joy.

omg, I don't really read comics but this was fantastic!! The way the boys embraced Blanca filled me with so much joy. The inclusion of Mexican culture and food is wonderful and makes me want to know more. Excited for volume 2!!

What do you get if you have beautiful art with colours and movement that pop vividly, a charming and heartfelt story of love, the pursuit of happiness, and found family? Well, this!
Following a girl running from home to New York to pursue her creative passions and escape from under the thumb of her domineering mother and meeting the fun and complex people who become her housemates, a network of support that is truly heartwarming.
I really loved this, and I can't wait for more. Highest of high recommendations!
Thankyou to Netgalley for my free electronic copy in exchange for an honest review!

This graphic novel is basically the heart and soul that is community, especially highlighting queer community (although the main character herself is not queer but many characters within the story are) and community overall shared between marginalized groups. It is about chasing your heart and creative spirit. It's the embodiment of being 18 and feeling as if you're ready to take on the world and achieve anything you set your mind to. The story follows a bold young female protagonist, Blanca, a Mexican-American young woman who just graduated high school. Blanca dreams of a future in fashion, not the business life her mom has planned for her. So she decides to risk it and move to the big apple and pursue her dreams. There she meets some friends and moves into the brownstone they all share. The cast of characters within the house are diverse in both race, sexual orientation, background, and personalities so it makes for a fun group. The graphic novel was fairly short but really enjoyable and definitely seems like a fun series yo read. I look forward to reading volume 2!

My only criticism is that the second volume isn't out already! I loved the characters, the art, and the use of vibrant colors. It brought out the city landscape beautifully. And that cliffhanger was such a surprise! Can't wait to read more!

Ok, first of all I thought the art work in this graphic novel are so pretty. I particularly like the colour shifts depending on mood and when a scene is set.
Vol 1 of Eat Your Heart Out follows Blanca as she runs off to New York, chasing her dreams of becoming a fashion designer and ends up sharing a house with a super cute group of (mostly?) queer roommates 😍
I can't wait for Vol 2, which is set to be released next year

Wholesome queer modern fairy tale vibes!
Blanca runs away from Idaho to New York City, and, after a rough first day, she's found by Emile and fits right in with Emile's housemates. Full of queer and diverse characters, this is a great start to a graphic novel series, and I'm excited to see what happens next. The art is beautiful too. The story got a little confusing with jumping around, but it's a lighthearted story with sweet characters (except Blanca's mom).
Thanks to NetGalley and publisher for the opportunity to read and review!
