I was excited about this novel because it seemed a very original one, and took place in Portugal, not a common area on the historical fiction scene at the moment. But the writing fell flat for me, as did the characters, and I found my self skimming to the end just so I could see what happened. I think the author has potential, but this book needed more of everything.

I wanted to love this one. I just couldn’t get through it. A rare DNF for me. Sometimes books just aren’t meant to be read at a certain time. Perhaps I will revisit and try again later.
