A great addition to the Daring Ladies series and it is a delightful blend of romance and historical intrigue. The story’s charm lies in its well developed characters and the sizzling chemistry between Phoebe and Robert. The story is satisfying, with an ending that leaves you with a warm contented feeling.
Many thanks to Entangled and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Tina Gabrielle's Make Mine a Marquess is a captivating historical romance that delivers on all the promises of a Regency-era novel. With a dash of intrigue, a touch of scandal, and a whole lot of passion, this read is a delightful escape for romance fans of any genre. This was my first experience reading a historical romance, and it did not disappoint. My only complaint was that the writing sometimes felt repetitive when the characters kept rehashing the past up until the very end.
Overall, Make Mine a Marquess is a thoroughly enjoyable read that will leave readers wanting more. With its well-crafted characters, captivating plot, and evocative setting, this novel is a must-read for historical romance fans.
Thank you, NetGalley, Entangled Publishing, and Tina Gabrielle, for this ARC!
An intriguing book with one of my favorite trope: revenge. In general I loved both the plot and the characters, but I would have liked to see a final confrontation with the villain, while the revenge seemed too easily resolved at the end. As for the characters, Phoebe was a strange combination of fiery in her mind and with Robert and her cousin and too meek with her fiancé and her parents. I understand she felt guilty over her youth transgression, but no one knew, so why play the part of the dutiful daughter and let her fiancé tread all over her? As for Robert, he’s consumed by revenge and rightly so. I don’t blame him, even if it took him a little too much time to see that he was in love with Phoebe.
Gabrielle is a great writer and I really look forward to her next books!
With an intriguing premise, 'Make Mine a Marquess' sets the stage for a captivating read. The long-lost Marquess of Landon, Robert Kirkian, returns and knows his cousin was involved in his disappearance. He planned his revenge perfectly, but what he did not expect was his attraction to his cousin's betrothed, Miss Phoebe Dawson.
I was so ready for the fiery, angsty, revenge-fueled love story. But somewhere down the line, the plot lost its spark. There was very little chemistry between the leads, and the vengeance plotline seems drawn out and choppy.
I may have gone into the story looking for an intense, angst-filled revenge plot where the hero can't help but fall for his enemy's fiancé. However, it almost felt like some parts of the story were missing.
While this book may not have met my expectations, it could still be enjoyable for those seeking a lighter romance with a decent story.
Having met Tina’s books for the first time with How Not To marry a Duke, I recognized the next part of the series on Netgalley and put in a request.
Although it is a series, the books are actually pretty standalone. Of course this is fine, but I do like series where characters are recurring into several stories
However, the story of Phoebe and the marquis of Landon is an interesting one. Both characters are interesting and the attempted murder of the marquis keeps you on your toes throughout the book. so, in all, a very funny and interesting historical romance.
I’ll be looking out for more books of Tina Gabrielle. Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc
I found this to be a quite enjoyable read . I always get into a revenge plot story and this one was good. It felt a bit rushed at the end but that didn’t effect my enjoyment of the book
Another great historical romance. If you like your romance with a bit of mystery than this is an excellent option! Just the right length to give depth without being too long.
I've been in a bit of a historical book slump. Historicals have been my go to romance books for years but the last few months, I couldn't get myself to pick one up. I needed a break from all the contemporary I'd been reading lately and headed to my growing list of unread ARCs. I picked up Make Mine a Marquess because I loved the first two in the series. It was just what I needed to end the slump. You know the type of book that you carry around and read while folding laundry and cleaning the kitchen. This was that book.
Phoebe Dawson is recently promised to Baron Willard with the betrothal all but announced. She is ready to marry someone plain and boring who is definitely not a scoundrel. She meets a mysterious man, dressed like a pirate, at the costume ball and is instantly smitten. The next day, she discovers her pirate is none other than Willard's cousin who was lost at sea and suspected dead for five years. The Marquess of Landon is finally back in England and ready to exact his revenge plot against his cousin who plotted his death. He wants to bankrupt him and seduce his fiancé away from him. What happens when feelings become less about the revenge plot and more about the enticing and surprising Phoebe?
I cannot gush about this enough. I absolutely loved it. The way Gabrielle weaves middle eastern culture into her stories is top notch. I saw some reviews complain that Phoebe was cheating, but I don't really see it that way. She has little to no contact the entire book. They are only "engaged" because of a verbal contract. Willard kisses her on page one time and she literally gags. I adored the side romance between Phoebe's cousin, Beatrice and Robert's best friend Amir. They were so cute. It was a total 5 star read. Thank you to Tina Gabrielle for creating something that broke my book slump!
Read this if you like: betrothed to another, long lost Marquess, orangeries, house parties, villainous relatives, multi-cultural hero, charitable heroine, handy heroes, revenge plot, backgammon lessons, twilight swimming, heroine with a secret, cousin's betrothed, feisty heroine
Thank you to NetGalley, Tina Gabrielle, and Entangled Publishing for this eARC. All opinions expressed are my own. #netgalley #TinaGabrielle #MakeMineAMarquess #EntangledPublishing
The beginning of this book was a little confusing because we were dropped into the thick of it, but you quickly catch on to what is going on. My only reservation is that there were many scenes where the female main character was not "chaperoned but it was in service of the plot, so that was ok. I did like that the main male character had such a tragic backstory and that he was mixed race so there was an added layer of cultural elements. I also like that the female main character needed to help her family, but ultimately it's what lead to conflict. Overall, good historical romance with a satisfying ending.
This was a good read but towards the end, I felt like Phoebe was acting a bit silly and the Marquess was so focused on his revenge that it didn’t sit well with me in the end.
Regency era romance. If you've been watching Bridgerton and enjoying the historical romance/regency romance reads, this one might be what you're looking for.
This was a solid 3.5 star read but seeing as how the "betrayal/forbidden love" trope has be down rated repeatedly for infidelity, I went the opposite direction to even it out. In fiction, I don't mind infidelity if the one being betrayed does things that are unforgivable. Obviously in real life the ideal workaround would be to end the relationship and move on, but in a regency era romance a lot less is left to the decision of the betrothed. I read and watch the drama because in my everyday I avoid it at all costs, but if infidelity is something that is triggering for you then maybe choose one of the other books in the series (I haven't read them yet but I'll be sure to pick them up).
Thank you to entangled and the author for this ARC that was provided for me to read and review. I am sure I have mentioned it before, but the Entangled Read Alongs are always a great time!
4 1/2*STARS*
Filled with hate and revenge, Robert Kirkian, Marquess of Landon, has returned from the dead. Interrupting his cousin's house party, he sees the key to his cousin's downfall, Miss Phoebe Dawson. Seduction was the plan to break the betrothal, but Landon wasn't expecting to lose his heart and the lady. Now he needs a plan to win her back.
A hot under and over the covers, out in the garden and in the lake, rollercoaster romance.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book from NetGalley.
Mystery, intrigue, revenge and secrets. This book has it ALL. Landon and Phoebe are the embodiment of passion and I loved how she made him work for it. Everything I look for in a historical romance.
Tina Gabrielle is a new to me author and I am already hooked. This story has it all: mystery, intrigue, secrets then add some revenge and a little bit of spice and twists and turns you won’t expect and you’re in for a fun romantic adventure. Robert and Phoebe make me believe in passion again. Their characters are so creatively done that they draw into the story and won’t let go. Trust me you won’t don’t want to miss this story. It may be a fast read but it is jam packed with everything that a historical romance lover like me wants. Enjoy this adventure.
I can't wait to read more.
Heat Factor: It’s medium steamy with a lot of tense longing
Character Chemistry: He’s lying and she thinks men are liars
Plot: Phoebe is an heiress engaged to a gross dude who is about to inherit a title—only the true lord returns, and has to prove that the gross dude tried to have him killed in order to get it
Overall: This was a genuine page-turner, and the drama made sense
It turns out I really love books where there’s intrigue, and this book had it in spades. In this gripping book of plots and twists, Landon returns from “the dead” after being presumed lost in a shipwreck to find his heir throwing a house party on his own estate. While the party continues, Landon meets Phoebe, his heir’s fiancee. Landon knows his cousin tried to have him murdered, but he needs proof—and he’s going to stop at nothing to get it during this party.
The tension comes from two sources: Landon is tip-toeing around trying to scrape together evidence with his best friend and rescuer, Aram, and Landon is trying to separate Phoebe from his heir. Phoebe, on the other hand, is complicated. After falling victim to a seductive stable boy as a teen and having had a pretty traumatic pregnancy scare as a result, Phoebe has sworn off anything resembling a libido. She wants a transactional relationship only, and is pretty harsh with herself for the feelings she’s experiencing in Landon’s presence.
Landon and Phoebe bond over a lot of things: a shared love of new experiences, freedom, and philanthropy. But obviously there are misunderstandings and complications or there wouldn’t be much of a book, would there be?
I enjoyed the tension in this book immensely. You could tell the plots were going to converge and it was going to be a disaster, and it delivered. I will say that some of the resolutions felt a tiny bit abrupt, but once the mess started the clean up was pretty well in motion. I think there could have been a bit more groveling for my taste? But at least the groveling that was done fit the characters.
You do not have to read the other books in this series to enjoy it—it stands on its own just fine. If you’re easily irritated by characters who dig their heels in on emotional blockages (ERIN), this could potentially be irritating for you, but honestly it tracked for me.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. We disclose this in accordance with 16 CFR §255.

This is Book 3 of the Daring Ladies series. I have read and enjoyed the first two books and this one also did not disappoint! Phoebe has already been charmed once by a handsome face and has faced humiliation because of it.
She has no intention of letting it happen again, and instead agrees to marry out of duty instead of love. But when she meets Robert, the Marquess of Landon, she can't deny the attraction they feels towards each other. Robert is back from the dead, so to speak, having presumed to have been lost at sea. He's come back to London ready to reclaim what is his and enact some revenge on his cousin in the process. What better way to do that than to steal one's bride? He has vengeance on his mind when he seduces Phoebe, his cousin's betrothed, but what started out as an act of revenge, turns into a love that neither can deny.
An entertaining and enjoyable addition to the series. Although part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone. I enjoyed the writing and the characters and look forward to reading more from this author. I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley and Entangled Publishing and am voluntarily leaving my review.
A fun Regency era romance. Robert and Phoebe’s story was full of mysteries and romance. Would recommend this book as a fun beach read!
I really enjoyed this book. Yes Landon was lying to Phoebe about his intentions at the beginning and she was engaged, but I loved their interactions. The characters had really good depth and we got plent of backstory from both of them. It was a hard one to put down.
Thank you @entangled_publishing @tinagabrielleauthor for the gifted copy.
The Marquess that was thought to be lost at sea, rises from what was supposed to be his watery grave to see revenge and possibly find love. Make Mine a Marquess is a historical romance novel filled with revenge and steam. If you’re a fan of historical romance, I recommend picking up this book!
Thank you to Entangled Publishing for an ARC of the book, I’m leaving this review voluntarily.
We meet both MCs at a weeklong house party thrown by William Willard, a Baron who is set to inherit his cousin's Marquesatte. Robert Kirkian, the Marquess of Landon has been missing at sea and presumed dead for five years now.
Phoebe Dawson is the only daughter of a wealthy trade family. Her mother is hoping to be accepted by the ton through her daughter's marriage to Lord Willard. Neither party is in love with the other. Willard plans to pay off his gambling debts with Phoebe’s dowry. On the first night of the house party, Phoebe is outside when she meets a virtual stranger hiding in the shadows who strikes up a conversation with her. Both attracted to each other, they feel an instant connection. Unknown to Phoebe, it is the long-lost Marquess, Robert Kirkian, who has returned to reclaim his estate and title and investigate the attempted murder on his life by his greedy cousin Lord Willard!
Said attempted murder has also taken the lives of all the crew on board Landon's ship. All of this is not known to Phoebe, who while highly attracted to Robert, is keen to continue with the planned marriage to Lord Willard.
Fast paced and an enjoyable read. The investigation that proceeds that will find evidence to convict Willard for his hand in arranging his cousin’s murder and the love story between the MCs move the story along and keep you interested. I received an ARC from the publishing house and NetGalley with thanks and submit my honest review.
