A rakish romance with a strong and brave FMC that reads like a modern day tale! Absolutely delightful on every page. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the free advance copy.
Wow! What a great story. This is a new author for me and I was not disappointed at all. A fasted paced story of revenge and the consequences of enacting that revenge.
Robert was lost at sea, upon his return he is determined to get his revenge on the person who caused the issue in the first place. He starts be targeting Phoebe, the man's bethroval. An innocent woman, who already has a valid distrust for men.
The characters both primary and secondary ones are fantastic. Well defined with depth and spirit. Best friends who make every attempt to be both supportive and the conscience for the two main characters. Beautiful romance and more. I especially liked the detail of lawn bowling, it was just enough to peek my interest in the sport.
When Robert Kirkian, the Marquess of Landon appeared at his estate, everyone was shocked, having believed him to be lost at sea. However, Robert knows that Willard, his cousin was behind his near death as well as many others, when he plotted for his ship to sink. Now, Robert has a plan to uncover his plot and it works perfectly for him, when he meets Miss Phoebe Dawson, his cousin’s fiancée. Phoebe is everything an ambitious gentleman could desire in a wife. Wealthy and exceedingly beautiful but she is determined not to be fooled by another male. Yet when she meets Robert, she finds herself captivated and throwing caution to the wind, until she discovers his true purpose.
A fast-paced romance with plenty of spice. I thought the plot had a good pace and the characters well developed. Whilst Willard was clearly the villain, he does not come across someone with the aptitude to plot the demise of Robert, as suggested. I also enjoyed seeing the romance of Beatrice, Phoebe’s cousin and Robert’s friend. An entertaining read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Oh Tina Gabrielle, you had me at revenge. Revenge! REVENGE!!! Gosh, I love a revenge trope. Add in the instant sizzingly chemistry between Landon and Phoebe the moment they meet outside in the gardens at the masked ball on his estate. He was dressed as a pirate for goodness sake. Tina Gabrielle had me at insta love on that one. (*Raises hand to be plundered by even a fake costumed pirate if he is as delicious as Landon!)
As always I am drawn to a fictional man who feels he is too broken/too blinded by his need for revenge/would never be good enough for the FMC. Like buddy we know you are going to break. Just let it happen. And I also love when there is a best friend in the mix who continually along the journey, is trying to have the MMC see not only reason but that he has fallen for the FMC. Aram was such a great side character and he also sounded undeniably delicious. I would definitely stand watch with him and more...
Phoebe Dawson was a FMC I could definitely root for. Her motives and her reasons for becoming betrothed made sense for her character and her need to feel some sense of security after what she had experienced in her past at the hands of a "rogue". I appreciate how much it made her champion her cause/charity and her views on the plight of women during this period in time.
And when it all blows up (as we know it is bound to) I LOVED how Landon made up for his past actions. His actions made me teary eyed and made me love him all the more!
OOOOOOOOOOOH and I cannot wait to make Tina's Baba Ganoush Recipe that is in the back of the book. And I adored the cultural references to Landon's Lebanese, Syrian and Armenian heritage through his mother and how much it was a part of his identity. Do I need to learn how to play Tavlou now? Yes, yes I do!
I say I love a good revenge romance, but I start having my doubts when my stomach is twisted in knots. Tina Gabrielle definitely had me so invested in her characters that my heart plummeted with our heroine when she discovered the hero’s plans– but what a ride it was!
Robert Kirkian, the Marquess of Landon, has returned from the dead. Presumed lost at sea when his ship caught fire and sank, he is back to seek revenge on his cousin, whom he strongly suspects of arranging his ship’s destruction. Knowing his cousin is in dire financial straits and needs to marry well, Robert decides to seduce his cousin’s betrothed, Miss Phoebe Dawson, and deprive his cousin of her sizable dowry. However, he’s surprised to find that his cousin’s betrothed is not a shallow miss. Instead, she is courageous, observant, and intelligent. Phoebe is attracted to Robert, but she’s been betrayed in the past. She doesn’t want to have anything to do with rogues and thinks she’s perfectly happy to marry for duty and live a boring, predictable life.
I loved the banter between Robert and Phoebe. For me, a good romance has to have that banter and tension. I also really enjoyed that this story had a real “bad guy,” and there’s a bit of a mystery that needed to be solved. A lot of historical romances don’t have that anymore. This was a solid 4 stars for me. Enjoyable from start to finish, great characters, amazing banter, a little danger, and just enough angst.
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for providing me with a copy to review. All opinions are my own.
Make Mine a Marquess begins with Robert Kirkian, Marquess of Landon (who typically goes by Landon), peering inside a ballroom as he stands in the shadows outside. The costume ball is the beginning of a weeks long house party that is being hosted by his cousin, Lord Willard, whom he spots quickly. As Landon steps back into the shadows, Lord Willard and a beautiful blond woman, Miss Phoebe Dawson, step out onto the terrace. After a brief chat, Willard goes back inside as Landon approaches Phoebe. Learning that Phoebe was Willard’s betrothed, Landon approaches her and the two speak for a brief time before Phoebe heads back inside not knowing to whom she had been speaking. All she knows is that the handsome pirate piqued her interest.
The following day, Landon, along with his friend, Aram, approaches the country estate where the house party is being hosted and lifts the brass knocker. The butler answers the door to discover that the true Marquess has returned home after being lost at sea for five years. In Landon’s place, his cousin, Lord Willard, had taken over all that was rightfully Landon’s.
Once Landon makes himself known to those in attendance at the house party, it is hard to say who is more shocked: Lord Willard or Phoebe Dawson, albeit for vastly different reasons. What follows is a cat and mouse game as Landon tries to ferret out the truth of his ship going down and exactly why Phoebe intrigues him so.
Make Mine a Marquess is another wonderfully written tale by Ms. Gabrielle. Her stories draw you in from the beginning and the worlds she creates are easy to see in your mind’s eye. Landon and Phoebe were beautifully written, and their chemistry leapt off the page. The secondary characters were a bonus that gave the story depth. If you are a fan of regency romance novels, you will never go wrong with one of her books. Well done, Tina Gabrielle! Very well done!
💐 Regency Era
💐 Revenge
💐 Mystery
💐 Forbidden Romance (kinda)
💐 Forced Proximity
I flew through this story in about a day! It was fun and easily grabbed my attention.
I love regency era romances! This one follows our main characters, Phoebe and The Marquess of Landon.
Landon had been missing for five year, after his ship caught on fire and sank at sea. He survived, and has just returned home. He decides that he is going to prove his cousin, who is engaged to Phoebe, purposely set the fire and tried to kill him for the Marquess title. Landon also sets his sights on Phoebe, and wants to woo her away from his cousin.
Phoebe is an interesting character. She has a history that has shaped her into the woman she is. I enjoyed reading about her.
There is forced proximity due to Phoebe and friends staying at Landon’s home for a party.
I liked how we got to see what both characters were thinking and feeling.
I found the underlying plot of the fire and sabotaged ship to be very cool.
I would recommend this to other romance readers!
This is a fast-paced historical romance between an mmc seeking revenge and an fmc who has had her heart broken and doesn't want to go through that and be in love again. The mmc is a biracial english and Arab man and I loved what that brought to the book the infusion of culture and how society treated him because of his heritage. I enjoyed the fmc and how passionate she was, I also liked how she wanted to support her family. The romance was nice with a lot of tension and some steamy scenes and I liked the main characters together. There is a third extra breakup but the mmc does grovel which was nice. Overall this is a nice and quick historical romance. Thank you Entangled Publishing for this arc.
Everyone thought that the Marquis of Landon was lost at sea. Instead, Robert Kirkian defied all the odds and survived. Now after five years he’s returned to reclaim his title, his property, and his lands from his cousin who he believes tried to have him killed. But proper vengeance requires patience—and the perfect weapon. Which is precisely when Robert meets his cousin’s charmingly spirited betrothed - Miss Phoebe Dawson. Phoebe is everything an ambitious gentleman could desire in a wife, wealthy & exceedingly lovely.
The third book in the series & its easily read on its own, a well written with well portrayed characters & a well paced story. I loved Robert & Phoebe & loved the chemistry between them & loved how they fell for each other. I would have liked Willard to have been shown his hand more & would have liked to have known what happened to him, execution, deportation? I also wanted to know more about Robert’s recovery & about why Phillip suddenly left. I thoroughly enjoyed it but did have unanswered questions
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Make Mine a Marquess was a lovely, quick romance read. Phoebe, a dutiful daughter with secrets, and Landon, a marquess plotting for revenge, were both main characters that were easily liked. They each have their own charm and wits. While I think Phoebe's backstory was well-written, Landon's was underdeveloped. I hoped I could have gotten to know him on a much deeper level.
The novel was well-paced until the last four or five chapters, where it felt rushed. The build-up of Phoebe and Landon's relationship (albeit in a short period) was entertaining, so I was a little disappointed with what felt like an abrupt ending.
The book is set in the 1800s, and although terms from that period were used, the conversations did not have the tone/language of said time period. But it wasn't a problem for me and does not change its entertainment value.
Marquess of Landon had been “lost at sea” for years. He wants revenge because he knows someone tried to kill him.
Phoebe Dawson just wants to be with someone who she can trust. She would like a marriage of convenience because she was done giving her heart to someone.
Landon and Phoebe meet and they connect. They both enjoy each others company until a secret breaks them apart. I enjoyed this story and the HEA.
Revenge and youthful indiscretions...
Robert Kirkian is back and looking for revenge on his cousin, the baron.
The baron is almost, sort of engaged to Miss Phoebe Dawson.
Her father has given his permission for the baron and Phoebe to wed. She's ok with that, as she had a youthful indiscretion as a teenager and then a month of panic after.
I really liked Robert and Phoebe. Phoebe is 27 and is wary of rakes and scoundrels. She is no wallflower.
Robert knows as soon as he introduces himself to Phoebe that she is trouble and spells trouble for his plans for revenge.
Enjoying this series.
Recommend.
After nearly dying in a shipwreck five years ago, Robert Kirkian, the Marquess of Landon is finally back in England and ready to wreak his vengeance on the man he believes orchestrated the fire that should have killed Robert, his could and heir, William, Baron Willard. He returns to his country estate to find his cousin hosting a house party to celebrate his recent betrothal. Robert knows William is in debt and his betrothed is rich and promises to bring a huge dowry to the marriage, but even with the promise of that fortune, it is clear that Willard has been stealing from Landon’s estate and neglecting the tenants and property. Seething, Robert vows to ruin his cousin by finding proof of his treachery and by seducing his fiancée and keeping him from getting her dowry. At least that was the plan before he met Phoebe Dawson.
Miss Phoebe Dawson trusted love once and was left with a broken heart, now she wants nothing to do with love. When Baron Willard proposed it was the perfect solution, she would wed without the danger of falling in love and her parents would benefit from having a titled daughter. Phoebe isn’t thrilled with the betrothal, but it makes her parents happy and will enable her to have a bit more freedom to pursue her charitable endeavors at the home for unwed mothers. She is resigned to her marriage, but when she meets Robert, she begins to have feelings that she thought were long dead. She falls fast and hard for him, but with the truth of his intentions becomes known, she is heartbroken once more. Will Robert see the error of his ways or will his desire for vengeance cost him his chance at happiness.
I liked the idea of this book and loved that Robert had a mixed heritage that he fully embraced, but the vengeance plot was a bit over the top. Without spoilers it is hard to explain where the story fell apart for me but suffice it to say it did. I wanted to love the book, but for me it ended up being just an OK read. This is the third book in the series, but the books can all be read as stand alone titles as there is no interconnecting plot.
*I am voluntarily leaving a review for an eARC that I requested and was provided to me by the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.*
A tale of a man seeking vengeance and justice at any cost, even using her to attain his goal. It is also about a woman who was once betrayed and will not countenance it happening again. Most of all, it is a beautiful tale of love, forgiveness, redemption and HEA.
The newly returned Marquess of Landon is out for revenge against his cousin, who seems to have orchestrated the shipwreck that left him for dead five years ago. The gross cousin spends money recklessly and is draining the estate’s funds, while also neglecting the tenants and estate repairs. Landon hopes to find evidence of his cousin’s guilt while also seducing the man’s fiancee to add further injury. Phoebe is mostly the innocent victim here, but she was apathetic enough to become engaged to the villain of the story because she wanted to avoid any type of desire or passion. However, all those repressed feelings flare back to life when she meets Landon and is instantly intrigued and attracted to him. She tries and fails to stay away from him and sees that he really is an upstanding guy, for the most part, but she doesn’t yet know that she’s being used for revenge. This was your fairly typical revenge love story and it’ll take a bit of groveling on Landon’s part to get the girl.
Rating: 4.5/5
I received eARC for my honest opinion.
If you like retellings, historical romances, action and of course drama you will need to add this book to your shelf. This book is kinda like a retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo, and I loved it. You will find revenge, love, action, and drama.
I have never read a book by this author, and I did not know that this was book 3 when I requested it, but I was able to read it standalone and understand everything that was happening. I thought the author did a great job with making it blend with the historical era and I loved the plot behind this. There were about 2 different plots going on, but it blended so well and by the end it was wrapped up all nicely. It was a face paced book and I loved that with every page something new was happening or unfolding and it kept me engaged throughout the book.
I thought the characters were easy to connect with and I could relate with both of the MC. With Phoebe I found her to be smart, beautiful, headstrong, and determined. I loved that she wanted to take something from her past, that could have gone completely wrong for her but didn’t, and make sure that other women in the town that she lives in and even in where her betrothed is living as well. Her goal is to make sure that women and children of unwed marriages are still taken care of and respected, but as the month goes by with her betrothed, she is starting to see that she might not be able to have the chance to keep giving to the women.
Robert Kirkian was lost at sea for 5 years or so everyone thought after his cousin took over his title, his property, and his lands. Now that he is once again in good health and able to travel back to London to reclaim his title and get his revenge, he knows that he will have to wait and have patience for his plan to work. One of his plans is to get his cousins betrothed to fall for him and sweep her off her feet. Little does he know that he will be meeting a spitfire of a woman, and she is willing to challenge him and make him a better person.
This story had everything that I love in romances and having it be a historical romance made it even better. I can’t wait to see what else this author will come out with
I want to thank NetGalley and Entangled for the opportunity to review this book.
Revenge turned love story. Robert Landon is back from the dead and out to take revenge on his cousin who planned to kill Robert. This includes the fiance Phoebe, who has secrets of her own having been duped in the past.
The attraction is instant and intense. Where Phoebe is concerned, Robert's feelings are confused. Does he really want to use her for revenge, yes, but what about that irksome attraction and love that's developing.
The angst as plots are revealed and hearts broken were well written. As with many other of Tina's books having a character with an ethnic mix is interesting.
Presumed dead at sea, Robert returns seeking vengeance against his treacherous cousin. He targets Phoebe, his cousin’s intended bride, but finds himself drawn to her. Love proves perilous as Phoebe’s reputation hangs precariously by a thread. Can they navigate their potent feelings while avoiding scandal?
This is a tense and sensual story as Robert and Phoebe embark on a daring and dangerous courtship. Despite the threats, the chemistry between them is irresistible.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
This book was so wonderful to read. It was full of passion, anger, grief, selflessness and love. It was a true beauty. I loved Landon, he was a man full of grief sought after vengeance but found love in Phoebe a woman who was to marry the man who tried to kill him. Phoebe is not like any other woman in society, she has her own secrets and has a heart of gold. I loved her feistiness and her willingness to stand up for herself and others. I was nice to see them fall and in love. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Overall I really enjoyed it. I read it really quickly! This isn't my typical type of romance to read but I hit my Bridgerton Era. The language isn't historically accurate but I actually liked that and found it easier to read than other historical romances I have tried.
