I am a sucker for a regency romance. This was a quick, cute read that I could not put down. I was pleased by the writing style and adorable story the author wove. If you are a lover of regency romance, I highly recommend this author and this book! Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.
A classic in the making! This book contains all of the classic historical romance elements--a house party, a mysterious handsome stranger who is revealed to be the hero, a bounder of a cousin hoping to inherit, a heroine with secrets, meddling parents, a secret love--and while familiar, that familiarity only adds to the comfort of the book. It's the same story, but with delightful characters, plenty of longing, and a bit of spice to keep readers interested. Overall, it's exactly what readers are looking for in a historical romance. A surefire hit!
I LOVE A GOOD REVENGE PLOT!! OH the drama. A failed attempt to his life Lord Landan is back to reclaim his house and seeks revenge towards his cousin, the money hungry Lord Baron. Most of the book centers on Landan romancing Phoebe, his cousins soon to be wife. It was a great read, i could not put this book down. Reminded me of Bridgerton series with all the talk of the "ton", scandal and social hierarchies.
This was a very on brand historical romance. When you read these period pieces you usually know exactly what to expect. Make Mine a Marquees did not disappoint. We meet Phoebe as she escapes her Fiancé Lord Willard in the gardens. He attempts to kiss her and although they intended to be wed, she declines because she is simply not feeling him. Enter a handsome Rogue dressed as a pirate who makes her heart race faster.
Said Rogue, turns out to be none other than Marquess Landon, the presumed dead cousin of Lord Willard, Lord Willard in the 5 years the Marquess has been missing has assumed everything but the title of Marquess and does his best to not appear distressed at his cousins sudden arrival. Marquess Landon however suspects Lord Willard of attempting to assassinate him and plans to find evidence and destroy him. Of course that involves seducing his beautiful betrothed, Phoebe.
The book was well written and a lot of fun and definitely scratched the itch only a good historical romance can.
Thank you NetGalley, Entangled Publishing and Tina Gabrielle for the arc.
3.5 stars, rated up
I love historical romances and, really liking the synopsis for this, was fortunate enough to receive an early copy to read.
This gave me inspired-by The Count of Monte Cristo vibes and I eagerly read on, hoping for some intense romantic longing and some steam - there is steam, but not a lot of spice, imo - but it worked for the story.
Some minor issues I had -
*a little repetitive early on
*the dialogue did not fit the time period
*the ending felt rather rushed
*there were some unanswered questions at the end of the book
I found this to ultimately be a quick, fun read that I read over two days and it kept me turning the pages.
This was my first time reading the author and I will definitely read her work again.
Thank you to Entangled: Amara and NetGalley for the DRC
Marquess Landon arrives home after he was assumed he had passed away after a whopping 5 years. In the meantime, his cousin has been running the estate and now engaged to Phoebe.
Well. In this novel Landon is out to take everything from his cousin, including his wife to be as he works to prove his cousins guilt. As he gets closer to his goal, and closer to Phoebe, their unavoidable chemistry is hot. Like molten lava level of hot.
This marvelous period romance is packed full of steam, spice and a ton of revenge. All the characters give a tremendous amount of depth. Period romance is few and far between for me in terms of reads, but this author may just have me coming back for more.
Thank you to Entangled Publishing, Netgalley and Tina Gabrielle for the eARC!
I really enjoyed this book despite not being totally onboard with the premise. Landon did not have to seduce Phoebe as part of his revenge scheme. He could have gotten her to trust him and then shared his suspicions about his cousin with her. I'm a little shocked that he at no point thought to himself, "She deserves to know that she's putting herself in danger by marrying a potential murderer." That feels like a common sense thought to have for someone you claim to respect and think highly of.
Other than that, the book was an easy and enjoyable read. Their chemistry was incredible, and I enjoyed getting to join Phoebe on her journey to decide what kind of life she wants for herself.
I am so glad I got an ARC for this book. It's incredible. The push and pull of the main characters and how it fits into everything is just that I love it. Tina Gabrielle is a master at creating a world where you can't stop turning the page. I absolutely love this book so much! The story of Landon and how friendship turned to love is just so good. Highly recommend it. It's a cross between Bridgerton and other historical romance. So good!!!!
I enjoyed reading Make Mine A Marquess.
Marquess Landon returns home after being presumed dead for the last five years. His cousin is running his estate and engaged to the beautiful Phoebe. Landon works to prove his cousin’s guilt while taking everything from him including his fiancée. Not sure of Phoebe’s involvement in the assignation attempt, Landon spends time getting close to her to learn more. The more time they spend together, the more they find they enjoy each other’s company. But trouble occurs when Phoebe learns of Landon’s betrayal. This was a fast read. I enjoyed the element of charitable actions as a part of the main character’s story as well as Beatrice’s romance too.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinions.
I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is book 3 in the daring ladies series. I did enjoy the read. I kind of do not remember the other books but I did enjoy it.
This is a review based on an ARC I received from entangled publishing via netgalley for an honest review… I have not read Period Romance it quite a while but used to read these kinds of stories a lot.
With characters having surprising depth (and pasts that needed to be overcome) this period romance has more between the pages than you might expect.
Phoebe Dawson with her social climbing parents pushing for a marriage, and her own trust and emotional issues was very likeable and root-for-her worthy. But the gem of the story for me is Robert AKA Landon. The wronged rightful marquises…. thus enters the plot for REVENGE! And to be very honest with you I LOVE revenge stories! Count of Monte Cristo is one of my favorite classics.
This story also has interesting supporting characters like Aram and Beatrice that make me wonder (and expect another book) about their story.
The only draw back for me and costing one star was a slightly rushed conclusion that could have been fleshed out more. I love a more complete view into the future of the couples I read about.
Make Mine a Marquess by Tina Gabrielle is a perfect book for a steamy romance book.
✅ Revenge
✅ Secrets
✅ Lies
✅ Trust issue
✅ High sexual tension
✅ Plenty of spicy scenes: intense and explicit
✅ Tear jerker
✅ Angst
After years, Marquess of Landon had been lost at the sea. He come back for a perfect vengeance which involve seducing his cousin's betrothed, Miss Dawson. Miss Dawson is perfectly fine with her relationship with her betrothed until Robert came.
This is my 2nd book from Tina Gabrielle and I'll definitely be waiting for the next book.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for this fantastic book.
I loved the time period and the descriptive text. The clothing and setting were spot on
I enjoyed the romance. There was just the right amount of spark for me, and the scenes did not go overboard
I like a little left to the imagination. So many books go way overboard. This book is a fast read and was perfect for a relaxing weekend read.
Recomnend. .
Swoon worthy historical romance that you can count on. There is the requisite rake to hate, at least one hot exotic man with a title and money, and the beautiful Miss Phoebe. She is strong with an independent streak not allowed in her era or her position. You know there will be a happily ever after. Just enjoy the story getting there.
I typically do not read this type of romance book. When I see steamy covers and words like "marquess" or "duke" I move on. The summary of this book caught my eye, though, so I decided to give it a try. Despite not fully knowing all the terminology of the time period and social circle, I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well developed and the plot flowed well. The story moved along quickly enough to keep me interested. There are only a couple of steamy scenes, despite what the cover implies.
I received a complimentary copy of this title in exchange for a review.
This was a respectable regency, with your standard "not like other girls" heroine. The characters were written to be likable, which I appreciated. They had the usual willful blindness/hangups to create tension, but no one did anything they couldn't come back from.
My only real problem was that the timeline was a little sketchy. Days/dates didn't exactly follow correctly. Not a dealbreaker, just felt a little sloppy, and maybe threw off the pacing a touch.
Still an enjoyable read.
Very cute book! I found all of the characters enjoyable and the plot kept me interested. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes historical romances!
This was my first ARC provided by the publisher, Entangled Publishing. It was also out of my normal genre I typically read.
Without spoilers, my favorite thing was definitely the setting. I adored picturing the beautiful home and the garden setting throughout the whole book. My major dislike was the repetitiveness of the first few chapters. I read most of the first few chapters in one sitting and although important, the internal dialogue of characters was reminiscing events of chapters just one before it so it felt repetitive.
I wish the author the best and I would definitely read another by them in the future!
Although revenge isn’t my favourite trope, this was a pretty enjoyable read and I really liked the authors style . I read the first two books in this series before this one and I will be reading more by this author
This story takes place at a house party. Landon has just returned to England hell-bent on revenge against his duplicitous cousin. Unexpectedly his cousin, Lord Willard, is engaged to the incredibly alluring Phoebe Dawson. Of course, Landon decided to include the seduction of Phoebe as part of the plot against Willard.
Phoebe is engaged to Willard merely to please her parents. She has no expectations of ever falling in love, as her heart had already been broken years earlier. She is attracted to Landon and she doesn't entirely trust herself to be resistant to his charms. The sparks are flying when the two of them get together. However, the question remains. Will the couple allow themselves to fall in love? Or, will they remain caught up in the misery of their pasts?
I've read books by this author in the past and she always reliably delivers a passionate tale. This book was no exception. The relationship of Phoebe and Dawson was steamy and entertaining. Both characters were haunted by their pasts and they needed to break free. This book also had a cute secondary romance and a sweet cat named Mimi.
I received a free ARC on NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
