Munchpie Morgan by Merry Lorenz was an interesting and delightful read that had me in stitches. I read this to my niece and she absolutely adored it so I would highly recommend this.
I'm not sure this was fully thought out. I liked the premise in the beginning - 'you are what you eat' so taking the foods that have body parts (or puns) in their names and superimposing them on the character's body - but not every page did that? Pie was like the sky, broccoli like trees, and that was off-topic. The illustrations were cute, but it just needs more time to flush out the idea and make it more cohesive.
A fun read – as long as you don't mind a simply disposable frippery instead of a book. This is a cartoonish world where our heroine can celebrate corn having ears, chicken being sold in breaded fingers, and so on, and wonder what she would look like if she had the same attributes. Then some foodstuffs look like other things, and the author gets the first and second person bodged up in one tiny four-line verse, the end. It's sloppy and needlessly slapdash, but for such a junior mind it almost seems more forgivable – if it were for more discerning readers it really should be marked out as a failure. I'm not sure why I'm being so generous on this occasion – must have been something I ate.
Munchpie Morgan is a cute and playful read which reflects on the saying ‘you are what you eat’.
From a ‘head’ of lettuce, chicken ‘fingers’, and ‘ears’ of corn, this is a wonderful story to share with children that focusses on the variety of foods in a positive way. We giggled along with Morgan as she pictured how her body might look.
The illustrations were energetic, bold and enticing, reinforcing the positive, light and supportive feel of the story.
Thank you Fair Share Publishing and NetGalley for a copy of this book. Opinions expressed are my own.
Have you ever wondered what happens if your snacks become... you? Munchpie Morgan does!
This children’s book was so clever and had me laughing throughout. It’s such a unique story and perfect for young readers - especially those who are picky eaters! The illustrations were so fun and spectacular, this was just an overall entertaining read. I would highly suggest adding this to your children’s library!

I loved this one and can’t wait to add it to my classroom library! Kids are gonna love Morgan and the hilarity that ensues when she explores all the good that she loves to eat. It’s bright, colourful, enlightening and funny. A very positive read. Highly recommend!
Thank you so much to Fair Share Publishing and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.
Morgan likes the phrase you are what you eat, and with her imagination she imagines what’s she’d look like from everything she eats.
A very creative and funny story, a child’s imagination can be very vivid and this shows exactly how that can be. I enjoyed seeing how each food item she ate was then visualised to that body part that was within the foods title.
It’s a very whimsical and fun read, very cute illustrations showing everything she was thinking. I liked reading it and I liked how it was creatively made choosing the right foods that workded for the body parts. The world play within it was also so very funny.
Thank you to NetGalley for this e-copy of Munchpie. Organ by Merry Lorenz in e change for a honest review. This is a cute story a out a girl named Morgan who has been told you are what you eat.She imagines herself with a head of lettuce, chicken fingers etc. This is a great rhyming book that encourages young children to use their imagination and think outside the box.. Great illustrations too.
I found it very hard to rate children's books so everything is a 5 star read for me!!
I really loved this book, the illustrations are so beautiful and captivating that I found myself smiling through every page I read.
I loved how the book portrait a healthy relationship with food.
Amazing cute book.
"You are what you eat", we've all heard the expression. This is the literal vision of this. Morgan describes all the food she likes to eat, then visualizes herself looking like the food. I love the fun word play such as having a head made of lettuce or chicken fingers. I imagine giggling kids wanting to read this again and again.
This was such a fun and whimsical book. I love how it encourages imaginative interaction with the world. I really liked the bold and clear illustrations and the text was very easy to read and succinct.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.
A quick read, that's sure to have a child giggling.
With beautiful illustrations, it would make the perfect addition to any bedtime routine!
Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for the eARC! A cute story about the phrase “you are what you eat” and Morgan imagines what she would look like if she ate certain foods- young readers would find this book hilarious! A fun way to teach body parts and different foods. The rhyming throughout the story worked and gave it a nice rhythm to read in. I loved the illustrations- very colorful and inviting!
This book follows a story about Morgan, the main character and her becoming what she eats. I think this is really interesting, especially as it would follow the whole you are what you eat myth that goes around and I think this is a really fun take on it, especially in more of a kids book that’s more rhyming and colourful
You are what you eat, right? Munchpie Morgan puts her imagination to the test to see what that would be like. The story is cute and silly and the language is clever and fun. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
I liked the way this was handled. It didn't show any weird hang-ups with types of food, but just put them all together and what they did. It's refreshing to see a book that just let's a kid eat pasta and pie but also like broccoli and lettuce without making a big deal about either.
I loved this so much! It’s such a cute children’s book. A cute, silly, rhyming book that’s a really fun read! This would be perfect for all ages.
The illustrations are perfect for the story! There’s a dog - which makes it an instant favorite for me.
Thank you, NetGalley, for allowing me to read this early! The release date is set for May 31, 2024 and you should definitely pick it up!
If i take this to be a silly fun story I really loved it.
The story telling was short, direct and straight to the point.
I didn't love the message you are what you eat - but I appreciate that the author didn't just include salad related items.
I found the story fun, carefree and the illustrations were great.
I could see this easily being a wee song story in future.
This was a cute book and included lots of amusing illustrations. I read it with my six-year-old daughter and she enjoyed it. It’s a great book full of lots of rhyming words, which she thought were very funny. Would recommend for ages six and under. Thank you for the advanced copy NetGalley!
This is a very cute book that I read to my kids. They enjoyed the images and got a good giggle out of the different food options. The illustrations are cute. This book feels like a simple, nonsensical book to read to your kids for the fun of it. And although that can be really nice, it's also really nice to read books to kids that even with silly fun things, can also be teaching something! It's also very short, but that's not bad if you're reading to a hyper toddler near bed time. It's cute!
