I absolutely adore Tilly’s books so I was delighted to be asked to take part in this Blog Tour.
The first chapter details how much Ottilie was in love with her husband Josh until he tragically passed away, it shows her former life as a loving wife and her busy job as a nurse in a hospital, then within the blink of an eye it all changes and now she’s on her way for a fresh start in Thimblebury in the lakes and her new home which is called Wordsworth Cottage.
My heart broke for Ottilie, the grief she felt for her husband was so raw and vulnerable it’s a wonder she could get out of bed each day but she does.
Ottilie has a whole new world waiting for her in Thimblebury and a whole host of new friends who are all kind of quirky but they all have the biggest of hearts and welcome Ottilie with open arms.
I couldn’t put this book down until I’d read every last page, the whole story from beginning to end was just wonderful and the reader goes through Ottilie’s journey of finding herself again right along side her.
I have to say that Heath’s redemption arc was a wonderful thing to read because at the beginning I didn’t like him at all but by the last page I was rooting for him.
I can’t wait to read book 2!.
A really enjoyable book which I will certainly recommend to others.
Thanks for the opportunity to read & review it.
A Helping Hand For The Village Nurse is a delightful book. I loved all the characters and the charm of the small town. The main character, Ottilie was relatable with her grief, panic attacks and weariness when life throws her a curveball. I could picture myself in Thimblebury watching films with the club and visiting the alpacas. I can’t wait to read Book 2!

Thank you Bookouture for inviting me to be part of the Books on Tour for “A Helping Hand for the Village Nurse”. This is the first story in a new series by Tilly Tennant.
Ottilie Oakcroft, who is recovering from heartache of losing her husband, moves to the small Lake District village of Thimblebury to become the new village nurse.
She bought a charming cottage that is close to her patients and new friends. As she is recovering, the river floods, ruining her new home. Can her new friends persuade her to stay in the village?
I’m looking forward to visiting Thimblebury again in the next installment. Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

This is my first book from Tilly Tennant. So I am coming in with no previous knowledge of her books. That said if you're a fan of Hallmark + Virgin River this book series is right up your alley! Tilly is incredible in delivering well developed characters, a steady plot line & some romance sprinkled in but not the focus. This book does cover topics of crime, murder, and grieving the loss of a significant other. This specific storyline is about love, loss and starting a new chapter in a new place. A coming to terms, healing journey that finds the main character (Ottilie Oakcraft) in a small beach town village surrounded by a community of people who were once strangers and by the end are family. It's a story that gets you in all the emotions. From laughter to a few tears you will get los in the journey along with her & fall in love with the characters in the village as much as she does!
As a Hallmark lover I would have loved more of the romance intertwined but it was sweet and wonderful without it! I hope the next one in the series gives us so much more of her healing journey and the stories of the characters in the village!!
Synopsis: Ottilie Oakcroft never thought she’d live in a place like Wordsworth Cottage. Nestled close to the river, her new home in the tiny village of Thimblebury means all her patients are just a stone’s throw from her front door. As they drop in for cups of tea and cosy chats she ignores all the jobs on her to-do list and gets to know her new neighbours.
Yet maybe keeping busy is just what Ottilie needs, even if she’s barely had a minute to unpack her suitcase. Heartbroken after the death of her husband Josh, as she offers advice and hot soup from her kitchen to the villagers who clearly need a helping hand, she starts to feel part of a community again.
But disaster strikes when a terrible storm causes the river to burst its banks and flood Ottilie’s ramshackle cottage. She has sunk every penny she has into what she’d hoped would be her forever home, and now she’s faced with the prospect of losing it.
But the villagers have other ideas. They can’t bear to lose Ottilie and they make a plan to save her house. Leading the effort is handsome Heath, and as he rolls up his sleeves to get involved in the repairs, he and Ottilie start to open up to each other. Ottilie tells him about her loss, and he shares the pain of a marriage that ended in heartbreak for him.
Ottilie hasn’t talked to anyone like this since Josh’s death and while it scares her, a tiny grain of hope begins to grow. Could Heath be the man to make her feel life is worth living again – not just for her patients, but for herself?
Shoutout to Netgalley + Bookouture for the eARC! I truly enjoyed it!!!
A Helping Hand for the Village Nurse is the opening read in a promising new series from Tennant.
It's set in the idyllic sounding Thimblebury, a tiny close knit village that's full of community spirit and friendships waiting to be made.
The characters are warm, lovely and so easy to become emotionally invested in. I'm looking forward to my next visit to Thimblebury already.
A gorgeous comfort read that's full of heart and romance. It's the book hug you didn't know you needed.

She has found the perfect home with the perfect setting. Wordsworth Cottage that sits right next to a flowing river, Ottilie knows this is exactly where she wants to be. She loves the villagers and is especially drawn to an older lady named Flo. Flo and Ottilie love to meet and chat over a cup of tea. Flo helps Ottilie through her grief, and Ottilie feels as if she may just make it through this season of her life. The water floods her cottage and she feels once again that she has lost everything. But, Flo’s grandson Heath refuses to let that happen. He spends day and night to help repair the cottage. The entire village steps in to help. As Ottilie opens up to Heath about the pain of losing her husband Josh, Heath opens up to Ottilie about the heartbreak he suffered from his marriage. Heath and the villagers provide a small ray of hope for Ottilie as she feels once again that this is exactly where she needs to be.
A Helping Hand for the Village Nurse authored by Tilly Tennant is a lovely little story about love, loss and new beginnings. I absolutely loved the village of Thimblebury and my favorite part was the people. The tea time chats between Flo and Ottilie were so touching and made me feel like I was sitting with them. Tennant is great at pulling the reader into her stories. I loved everything about this phenomenal story from the first page to the last. It hit all the feels and the details of the village and the people made it extraordinary. I am so happy that this is the first book of a new series, I can’t wait to read the next installment. Thank you Tilly Tennant for such a sweet wonderful story that made my heart happy. I highly recommend this absolutely fabulous book.
Ottilie moves to a ramshackle cottage in a small village named Thimblebury to start new life after her husband's death and after leaving behind the city. She is a nurse and soon she gets surrounded by the villagers themselves, inviting her to many things and Ottilie even does favors to others. But one day a storm comes in a flood her small cottage. Ottilie contemplates on leaving behind the village and move back to the city but the villagers wouldn't even hear of it and soon, she meets a handsome man named Heath through one of the patients, Flo.
Good points- I actually like the setting of the story. The warm scenic places away from the bustling city, the community overall trying to help you with the life in the village, I really like that setting. Also, I think I also liked the plot of the story as well.
Bad points - I felt the story as a whole was too long--this could have been a shorter novel. The flooding started somewhere towards the middle of the book and I actually got bored at some parts of the story. There were too much repetitions as a result which made the whole story sounded slightly boring in my opinion.
Overall verdict-- if this was a shorter novel, then I would have enjoyed the book as a whole. But the story was slightly too long, which made me bored reading and which lowered the rating of this book. However, I like the setting of the book, the cozy atmosphere, the community helping and above all, the book cover is very appealing. I may not read the series but then I mgiht give it a try. Worth 3 stars.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.
I would like to thank Bookouture and Tilly Tennant for the E ARC for this book.
We meet Ottilie Oakcroft, she has moved from Manchester to the small Lake District village of Thimblebury to become the new village nurse. She has bought a cottage that she loves, she is also in the heart of the village with all her patients around her.
As she finds her feet and makes friends we see her settle into life, the busier she is the better she likes it as she tries to come to terms with the death of her husband. Then disaster strikes and Ottilie has to possibly rethink being in Thimblebury, can the her friends persuade her that her place is in the village?
I liked the village setting and getting to know not just Ottilie but the villagers as well. The plotline was good and kept the story moving. This was a good start to a new series by Tilly Tennant.
Ottilie is the most lovely down to earth fictional character and I have a little book crush on her as she is a nurse who truly cares for her patients well being. Ottilie goes out of her way to help whether she is on or off duty, nothing seems to be too much. Now that she is a widow she moves to a new town and the locals quickly realise that they need Ottilie. When a terrible storm floods her house Ottilie fears she will have to move but the community have other ideas and band together to help. Leading the charge is handsome and broody Heath. Will he win Ottilie's heart? I immediately escaped into this heartwarming romance. I loved all the characters and especially the quirky ones. It's a gorgeous story of heartbreak, loss , grief, love, friendship and a community that I want to be a part of. I am so thankful that it is going to be a series so I am really looking forward to more of life with these characters.
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
I enjoyed reading this book. Set in the village of Thimbleberry, we meet Ottilie, after losing her husband, she leaves Manchester and moves here, after getting a nursing position to start a new life,
When she’s settled in, the village is hit with a rainstorm, which causes flooding and her cottage is full of water. Meaning that the amount of work needed to restore the cottage is more than she can do, and she doesn’t have any insurance for flooding.
With no other alternative but to leave, the community come together to rebuild the damage caused by the flood and ensure Ottilie stays in Thimbleberry.
I recommend this book.
The book started with a strong grip on my heart when Ottilie lost her husband. This leads her to find a new start.
She has found a job as a nurse with a position that was recently vacated, and it is a perfect fit for her.
She has found her home and the residents of the village exactly what she needs to heal her grief. As things happen in her life that help her on her way to being happy, she finds Heath who fits perfectly into her new life.
This is the first book in the series The Village Nurse by Tilly Tennant. I look forward to reading more in this series to watch the growth of all the characters.
Thank you NetGalley, Tilly Tennant and Bookouture for the copy of the book A Helping Hand for the Village Nurse.
This is my personal review.
A Helping Hand for the Village Nurse by Tilly Tennant is a wonderful novel of friendship, community, loss and love
Ottilie Oakcroft is a nurse, a nurse who has just been widowed, her police officer husband receiveing fatal injuries in an unprecendented attack
Ottilie needs to start over, to get away from Manchester, so she ups sticks and buys a Wordsworth cottage in a little village in the Lake District, Thimblebury. The little cottage is in a dip next to the river and Ottilie needs directions so stops to talk to a local, Victor, her first friend on the road to her new life.
However, things are not all flowers around the door, and settling in may be easy with the villagers, (easier with some than others) but with terrible flooding, and fear of recriminations from her huuisbands killer, Otilie is not sure she is safe in Thimblebury, her anxiety going off like a fire alarm at every turn
Tilly Tennant creates the most delightful, likable, authentic characters. The love and care between Victor and Corrinne, The steadfast fortitude and stubbornness of Flo, her grandson Heath who puts his foot in his mouth every time he opens it, Magnus and Jeff, the couple who run the cinema club and local shop, and sweet Stacey and her pregnant teenage daugher Chloe who never looks up from her phone. I enjoyed each and every one of these characters and their interactions with each other and Ottilie, not forgetting the surgery staff! Oh Lavendar you chatty thing you!
(I am SO excited that there is another book in this series on the way!!)
A cosy read that is full of wholesome activity as well as drama, with the whole village coming together, in happiness, in tragedy and as a little community. I absolutely loved this book
Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture and the author Tilly Tennant for this wonderful ARC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own
After the death of her husband , Ottile needs a fresh start. She finds herself emerged into village life. Will she fit in and win over the hearts of locals? Turbulent times along the way but has she finally found her fresh start?
Ottilie Oakcraft, a recent widow, begins anew as a nurse in Thimblebury, finding solace in her idyllic home, Wordsworth Cottage. Embraced by her neighbors and connecting deeply with geriatric patient Flo, Ottilie starts to heal. When a natural disaster threatens her home, villagers rally to help, especially Flo's grandson Heath. Although Ottilie feels drawn to Heath, she worries about dishonoring her late husband's memory and keeps her distance. This warm story explores Ottilie's journey through grief, the supportive village, and a slow-building romance with Heath. It's the first in a new series by Tilly Tennant.
I enjoyed some parts of this book especially the community togetherness aspect but I felt that the romance portion of the book was a bit rushed. It almost felt like an afterthought of sorts. I wanted to know more about Heath in the same way we learned about Ottilie. All in all it was a good book but a bit slow paced at times so if that’s what you’re looking for then it should work from you. Thank you Net Galley and Bookouture for the advanced copy of the book in exchange for my honest review
After the tragic death of her husband Ottilie Oakcroft leaves Manchester for a new start and moves in to Wordsworth Cottage, a rural retreat in the heart of the Lake District. Reeling from Josh's untimely death and the fact that it may have been international, as he was a police officer and dealing with a dangerous crime family she feels the need to start over and go somewhere off the beaten track.
The village of Thimblebury has a very close knit community and Ottilie soon finds herself in the heart of it, even before she has officially taken over as the new village nurse. She makes friends quickly and when disaster strikes in the form of a flood in the village, she realises that she might have just made friends for life as all the villagers rally round to help her fix Wordsworth Cottage.
There were some great characters in this books like Flo, Magnus and Geoff who seem like real characters. I love the book club and cinema club, it sounds like an excellent place to live.
She then meets Heath who is the nephew of Flo, but he lives in Manchester. The pair have a connection but it is a very slow one. But Ottilie is feeling guilty about having these kinds of feelings again and Heath has just been through a bad breakup, so I guess it is understandable, I personally would just have liked a little more burn. But I am guessing we will have more books to come in this story and their journey has only just begun.
I also love the fact it was set in Manchester briefly and the Lake District. I live in the North West of England, so have a close connection to both places and visit Windermere often. So know the beauty and pull it holds. Like most people once they visit I wish I could up stick and move to the idyllic landscape.
Thank you to NetGalley and Books On Tours for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.
I do find with Tilly's books they can be a bit "hit and miss", this for me was a miss, I did enjoy the story line and the characters were well written, it just seemed to be padded out, there was lots of "thought process" which sometime went on for a few pages, I did find myself skipping to the "talking" parts of the book, saying that the end seemed rushed and abrupt, but that maybe because it is going to be part of a series, not a cliff hanger but certainly more to be written.
Cute little story set in a cute little village. A little bit of drama to get the story moving, but it’s nice to read a slower paced book from time to time and enjoy what daily life brings.
I received an ARC from NetGalley.
I really thought I would love this book- a step away from my other reads. This would be a cosy read following Otillie after the death of her husband. However I feel the start and middle really dragged on, there was no real chemistry between her and heath and it kind of was all wrapped up in the last couple of pages.
It is a new series, so there might be more in the second book
