This was such a fun read - Ottilie is dealing with heartbreak after loss and moves to a new village for a change and fresh start.
After her place is flooded, lovely Heath comes to help her and of course sparks fly. I loved the different characters in the village and their stories as the book goes on. Heath is a dreamboat character and they both seem perfect together.
This book is perfect escapism to the lake District and I really enjoyed this book!
Set in a picturesque village in the Lake District, I loved the location.
Ottilie wanted a new start away from her native Manchester after tragedy struck her perfect life. Ottilie is the new nurse at the village medical centre and she is so beautifully caring.
A gorgeous story about the fabulous community of Thimblebury and the way the residents pull together.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the early copy, and this is my honest review.
I loved it!
A Helping Hand for the Village Nurse is a delightful read that captures the essence of community spirit. It's a reminder of the beauty of starting over, the warmth of being part of a community, and the healing power of love. With its charming setting, relatable characters, and emotional depth, this novel is a comforting embrace, perfect for those who believe in the magic of helping hands and new beginnings.
The blossoming relationship between Ottilie and Heath, a fellow villager dealing with his own heartaches, adds a tender romantic subplot to the story. Their shared vulnerabilities and cautious steps towards opening up to each other are depicted with genuine emotion, making their connection feel authentic and deeply touching.
This was a lovely, enjoyable read. I really liked the storyline and the location of Thimblebury. I also liked the character of Ottilie, she seemed down to earth and relatable.
Overall a fab read. Would recommend
Ottilie has packed her bags and moved from Manchester to the small village of Thimbleberry. Taking up the recently vacated nurse position she is ready for a fresh start. The death of her husband in the hospital she worked at left her unable to stay at her former job. After a few weeks she has settled into her new life but when a freak rain storm leaves her cottage flooded and the repairs are more then she can manage she has to consider leaving it all behind. Her new town might have something to say about that though.
This was a cute quick book. I did feel as if there were maybe one too many plot lines thrown into such a short book. I would have loved a little more character development focus. I enjoyed all the of villagers and the beautiful scenic town. I live in a town that floods almost every year, and I love the depiction of the town coming together in the aftermath of the flood, as that’s definitely something I have got to witness. Sometimes as bad as an act of nature can be it brings out the kindness of people.
Thank you to @bookouture and @netgalley for letting me read this one early. Look for it May 24, 2024

This was a sweet, light read! I loved that Ottilie, our FMC, was looking for a new start in a very small town. This set up my favorite aspect of the book; the community feel! The side characters were great and I loved how interconnected the characters and the community were to Ottilie’s development in learning to live with the grief of her husband’s passing. I wished I could join the film club and have friends like them! The community after tragedy trope was very well done in this book.
That being said, I did feel that the relationship aspect felt rushed and didn’t have a lot of depth. I wanted to know a lot more about the love interest Heath and their interactions seemed surface level. Also, the end was a bit predictable for me in that there wasn’t really any surprise or struggle between the leads, it just sort of ended. I felt totally shocked when the book ended because it felt so rushed! There was so much more to be said to give this story a good wrap up. Though, I see this is a first in a new series so I hope there will be more information in book 2.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture publishing for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
I absolutely adored this novel and devoured it over the course of a few nights because I just couldn’t put it down. I love Bookouture and Tilly Tennants work to begin with so I was so pleased to hear of this new Nigel from her. I’m also excited to see it is going to be part of what I hope to be is a series. I recently read a book f hers not to long ago that dealt with miscarriage and it stick with me. She knows how to tackle the hard subjects with grace and relatability. I was so excited to read Ottilie story and I knew I was in for heartbreak after reading the first page. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous. I loved getting lost in the world of Thi,blebury. I also could relate to Ottilies job as I have some experience in the medical field. I thought her take on it was spot on. And if anything is more true to life it’s that sometimes bad things happen and sometimes bad things happen more than once, but there is light in everything. Not only is our main dealing with the death of her soulmate, but then as she tries to build a better life for herself that lands up getting turnt on its head due to a storm that threatens to ruin everything she’s trying to rebuild. Enter Heath who I thought was a great romantic interest and I love that not only was he there to help he was dealing with his own issues as well. I could go on and on. There are so many great quotes and things I want to add, but I don’t want to spoil it for readers, but I can honestly say anyone who has the privilege to read this early or on its release won’t be disappointed. It was so moving snd beautifully written.
This was such a good book! The setting was perfect. It would be a great summer read. The main female character was very like able and I could not put this book down.
The writing was so playful, also enjoyable to read. All these characters were so relatable.
If you're looking for something to kick a reading slump or if you just want a fun book to sweep you off your feet this summer: look no further. This was such a good book. To be read by the beach or in the garden. Let this story take you away for a few hours of reading bliss.
A story about moving forward after loss. Ottilie moves to a small village to start over and finds herself a whole group of friends as well as a second chance for love. A sweet story overall.

With emphasis on love, friendship, and resilience, this story is a touching and uplifting read.
It's perfect for those seeking a heartfelt romance but without the spice.
I loved this book . Not an easy story at times . Ottilie moved to the village to escape life well wow she entered into village life being a the local nurse. It sounded an ace community. I loved Fliss the local doctor and her amazing marriage . The village shop was fab. . So many great characters. A really good read. I am a big fan of Tilly Tennant and yet again she does not disappoint .
A truly emotional read told with softness and heart. It's a book about dealing with losing a loved one and finding yourself again. Granted it could have had more complexity however I was still pleasantly surprised by how gripped I was throughout the whole story. It had me tear up, giggle and wish for the protagonist throughout. A great triumph of a comfort read.
What a lovely story. At times it was very sad. Ottilie is such a strong character. As badly as she was grieving she still looked out for the village residents. We go through 6 months of Ottilie grieving and building a new life. The residents show us the difference between a small English village and a major city. It’s a very heartwarming book.
