This story brings closure to the Dr. Drew series. From wife to mistress, widow to child we uncover both Fern's and Alice's lives since their last meeting seventeen years ago. With both of their respective daughters having just turned eighteen and ready to spread their wings and see the world, this becomes a roller coaster ride through their lives. There are many surprises along the way as they continue and manage to avoid each other. It gets explosive and tense and the ending is not what you would expect. I'll miss Fern and her misadventures. I recommend the entire series but enough is explained to keep the reader up to date. Thank you NetGalley & Bookouture for the chance to read this book which I highly recommend.

LOVED IT. 5 ⭐
There is a lot of history between Fern and Alice who lived in a small English village. Alice had an affair with Fern’s husband, the doctor. Fern arranged for Alice’s husband, Rory, to kill the doctor and set Alice up to be blamed and imprisoned for it. Fern killed Rory, escaped to build a new life, met a new man, Greg. When she found out that Greg was the doctor’s best friend out to catch Fern, she killed him as well. BUT, Alice was carrying the doctor’s child and Fern was impregnated by Greg. Skip ahead almost two decades and Alice’s daughter, Evelyn, wants revenge. Fern is now living happily in France with a new husband and her daughter, Cecilia. When paths cross, revenge and retribution are on the menu. Got it? Whew!
It was the fourth installment and I loved it so much. Waiting for the next one. Go and order your copy.
What I liked? :-
1 The storyline and how it's developed throughout the story.
2 The execution. The execution is done in an excellent way.
3 The twists.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me an advance copy.

Having enormously enjoyed the first 3 titles in this series, I absolutely could not wait to feast my peepers on 'The Doctor's Child'! I fully expected the 3rd novel.'The Doctor's Mistress' to be the last in this series, but by the utterly wizardry of creative writing we have hit fast-forward some 17 years and picked up at a point that totally works (for both readers of the series to-date, and those picking this up as a standalone).

The story starts with the stories of 2 women (and their coming-of-age daughters) who are geographically miles apart. Fern has a daughter, Cecelia, who is on the cusp of leaving her quaint French village for a fast paced life in the French capital with her best friend. Alice, by contrast, lives in England, in a remote part of the country close to the bleak Scottish border. Alice's daughter, Evelyn, has long since harboured resentment to her mother, having grown up without a father, and discovering that Alice let the murderer escape when Evelyn was just a baby. Evelyn seeks to reinvent herself in pastures new, and embarks on her journey, traveling through Europe.

It won't provide a huge spoiler to say that the lives of these 2 families intersect...but what happens next I definitely won't disclose!! All I will say is that yet again this author does not disappoint!

Expect another gripping plot that is utterly worthy of this series. I can 100% recommend this novel that has that elusive 'un-put-downable' quality in droves!!

My thank to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this novel in exchange for an advance copy.

Daniel Hurst is one of my automatic reads authors, he writes it I'm going to read it. I will always reccomend Daniel Hurst's books. this book has be hooked from chapter one, my attention was hooked and I didn't want to put this book down. I loved coming back to these characters for the final book to finish their stories. I like the time jumps in the book, going back to previous events from the other books but getting more information. These books are written where you can read as a stand alone but obviously better if read as the series. this book was a serious page turner and I cannot wait for everyone to read this.

This book is book #4 of a series. I don't know how he does it, but each book seems to get better and better! Daniel Hurst will forever be an 'automatic buy' author for me. This book sucks you in from the very beginning and it's a very fast read.

I like how the chapters alternate between the two main characters in the story. It makes it way easier to follow the story line as opposed to when there are multiple POV chapters from multiple characters in the book.

The way this author writes his books, gets the reader, hook line and sinker. They are my favorite books to binge on. You may think you have this book figured out, but I promise you, that's not the way it's going to end. He's really good at doing that to his readers.

You could read this as a stand-alone, but to get the full experience, I highly suggest reading the first 3 books. It just makes this book that more exciting!

Thank you to NetGalley, Daniel Hurst and Bookouture for allowing me to read this early!

Read this if you like:
fast paced thrillers
mother-daughter relationships
being hunted by the past
dual timelines
lots of secrets

The doctor's child is the fourth installment in a captivating series that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. What sets this book apart is its exploration of multiple perspectives, a refreshing twist that allows the daughters to shine alongside the main characters. Unlike its predecessors, this installment carries a different vibe, venturing beyond Aberness and into new territories. The narrative skillfully weaves throwbacks to events spanning the past 18 years, seamlessly picking up where the previous installment left off.
Throughout the story, unexpected twists keep readers guessing, adding layers of excitement to the plot. Personally, I found this installment to be the most enjoyable in the series, thanks to its engaging storyline and well-developed characters. The pacing is just right, offering a perfect blend of action and introspection that keeps the reader thoroughly engrossed.
As the series draws to a close, The doctor's child provides a satisfying conclusion, tying up loose ends and leaving readers feeling fulfilled. It's undoubtedly my favorite part of the series, delivering a gripping narrative from start to finish. However, despite its strengths, there are still lingering unanswered questions that prevent me from awarding it a perfect five-star rating.

Conclusion, this is a series that you should definitely not miss if you’re a sucker for domestic thrillers!

4,5 star

I just love all of Daniel’s Hursts books and have read many. This was a fantastic conclusion to the doctors wife series. I like how he has gone forward in time and we can read what happens to the daughters who oddly became friends. Although it can be read as a standalone I highly recommend reading the series from the start as they are all great books. Hope Daniel writes another series soon.

This was a perfect closure of the series. I liked that the author fast forwarded to 10 years and we got to read about the daughters as they navigated into their adulthood. Just like the previous books, this was a fast paced read with couple of twists that I didn’t see coming.

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I have to admit I am a big fan of Daniel Hurst writing having read more than 40 of his books in the last 15 months. I have thoroughly enjoyed the three previous books in The Doctors Wife series and eagerly awaited the next book in the series, A Doctor's Child, which is likely to be the last in the series unfortunately. Great way to finish the series in a cleverly written finale that I had not anticipated. The book switches between different periods of time and amongst the lead characters and cleverly tied everything together at the end. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the chance to ARC this book.

This book may be my favorite in the whole series. I love how we get to see both Fern and Alice’s daughter and how their lives are impacted. I was surprised in some ways that Fern chose a relationship with her daughter instead of running. But, as a mom, I am glad that she had a heart and did this. I felt like this book came full circle with how the choices these characters made impacted so many other lives. I am highly recommending this series to other thrilled fans!

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for an early copy of The Doctor’s Child. Well who doesn’t get excited getting an arc of Daniel Hurst books, especially this series?? What a PHENOMENAL series it was, and this novel closed it up beautifully. How odd the daughters became friends and the dinner scene was such a heart pounding scene, I couldn’t read fast enough. It was just Great, can’t wait for a new series from Daniel Hurst to start. Thank you again.

Close to 20 years later, Fern has been remarried for a decade and her daughter has turned eighteen. Alice’s daughter has also recently turned eighteen. What are the chances these girls meet while traveling in Paris? Secrets don’t stay secrets for long. The Doctor’s Wife and the mistress come face to face and the horror of the past is revisited. I loved this book and couldn’t put it down!

This is #4 in the Doctor's Wife series, and I actually didn't read the previous books. I would like to go back and read them since the follow-up was really good. I liked the characters, as crazy as they are. I thought it was a well-done book in the series that could easily be read as a stand-alone since there was enough back story given for everything to make sense. However, I still think I would have benefited more from having read the previous books.

The Doctor's Child by D. Hurst, published by Bookouture is the fourth book in the Doctor's Wife Series.
Lets get down to it.
Fern is the widow of the doctor who was killed. His mistress Alice was blamed and sentenced to prison. Alice and the doctor's daughter Evelyn is groen up and wants revenge for her parents. Fern's daughter Cecilia has her own agenda.
Sounds complex and conplicated and it is.
A fast paced book with multiple characters and storylines. A great read.

In Daniel Hurst's compelling novel, "The Doctor's Child," the 4th book in this series, we revisit the lives of Fern, Cecilia, Alice, and Evelyn, 18 years after the events of the previous installments in the series.

The fast-paced nature of the narrative added to the intensity, propelling the story that kept me eagerly turning the pages and transported me into a world of relentless tension. For those seeking a thrilling escape, this book is an absolute must-read, promising hours of suspenseful entertainment.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well-developed and the plot was very engaging and suspenseful.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Daniel Hurst for an ARC of this book.

Good follow up story, really liked how the time gap looped. Did feel a little bit of a lull a couple of chapter in, but it followed through very good.
