In this ya story we follow 17 year old Kennedy who lives with her mother living a pretty ordinary life. Until her mother dies one night and everything changes from there . I loved the intro for this book being thrown straight into a cemetery looking for Kennedy’s missing cat. It did have me hooked rather fast, it also gave super strong supernatural vibes with two twin guys who save her from a ghost. Yes there is lots of ghosts throughout this book, I enjoyed their lore behind the different ones as well. I felt like this was a pretty interesting but simple plot line, and there may have been a case of insta love a bit as well. Overall enjoyable for a quick spooky read.

This was very nearly a DNF for me. Not that it’s bad exactly, I’ve just read it all before. The girl who every male character loves instantly, but who the female characters are jealous of. She is too dumb to react and gets everyone into trouble again and again, yet it just makes the other characters love her more. The love triangle. The demon hunters. It’s like a lot of YA books.
Also, felt like it was light on plot so that the story could be stretched into a series.
Got a free copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I went into this one with a vibe of the tv show Supernatural. I loved that show and while this story does have many similarities I do believe it creeps me out more than that tv show did which is great because I love to be scared and creeped out! I went back and forth trying to pick whom I adored more...Jared or Lucas and as hard as it was to choose I think I am going with Jared. Kennedy tended to get on my nerves! Lots of eye rolls from me on her.

It took me a long time to get into this one and not because of the book itself, but because of my mindset. I wasn't in the YA paranormal mood.

And then--or now--I am.

However, I was not completely overtaken with this one. I wasn't hooked or desperate to know what happened. I was just meh.
Which isn't how I want to be while reading a book.

Then again, I feel like I've seen this episode before.
Wait. No. This is a book.
But the Supernatural similarities are real.

I've had "Unbreakable" for a while now. I'm not sure what took me so long to read it (probably my 600 TBR list, LOL) but I'm glad that I finally decided to read it. I've only read the first Beautiful Creatures book by Kami Garcia, otherwise that is all. So reading a book that only see wrote was nice. I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, but Kennedy's story kept me interested. I enjoyed meeting the other Legion members and hearing these teens stories. Enjoy read and now I can't wait to start the next book in the series.

When Kennedy lost her mom, she thought it was from heart failure, but when two strangers break into her house and kills......something, she learns the truth. Now she has to take her mother's place in the Legion, and along with 4 others, she has to fight evil before it's too late.

This was so good but has the dreaded love triangle that I loathe!!!! I'm so torn with my rating because of it. Plot wise, this was fast paced, entertaining, and creepy. I loved pretty much all of it except the love triangle part. Plus the fact that they were twins was just worse. I felt it was unnecessary and ruined an otherwise great story.

I liked all the characters. They were well written and developed, though the brothers were a little cliche. One a bad boy the other one nice, it was a little eye rolling. Priest was awesome and Alara was great. I thought they all worked well together.

In all, this was a great read but was brought down by the love triangle. I might pick up book 2 to see what happens but at the moment I'm unsure.

This book is like a spin of Supernatural meets davinci code and not at all in a good way. It had its fun moments with the supernatural, the ghost. arc, but that is about it.. This is my first book of Garcia's without the mashup of her and Stohl, and honestly, I think I prefer the co-writing duo. This just didn't work for me. Maybe I am too picky, or I just love my beloved Supernatural too much, and find it easy to compare here.

At one time I really liked ghost stories and I am a huge fan of Supernatural. But, that being said, I had to put this book down. I tried to engage with the characters and just couldn't get into the storyline. I am sure there are readers out there who love this story, I just struggled with it.

The paranormal in this book isn't vampires or werewolves, it's ghosts and poltergeists and other such creepy beings. And the Legion of the series title? A group formed centuries ago to battle the demons summoned by the Illuminati (who were anti-Church), membership handed down from generation to generation within a family. Each of the five members of the Legion has specific skills, and each has a piece of the puzzle. Only when united and whole will their work be completed.

So in the world of today, we have Kennedy, a relatively normal girl (albeit one with an eidetic memory and the ability to paint) living in DC with her mother. One night, things change: Mom dies, and suddenly Kennedy's going to either live with an aunt she doesn't know or go to an all-girls boarding school in upstate New York (which can only be one school, my alma mater, but it's never named). Except things don't quite work out that way, as something breaks into her house and destroys it days before she's expected to move. She's rescued by Jared and Lukas, two members of the Legion, and taken to a safe place where she meets the other two members, Alma and Priest.

The rest of the book is taken up with their searching for a relic, based on clues found in various places hidden around DC. A little convenient, in my opinion, that they're so close - why were they brought to the US in the first place? And wouldn't it be safer to hide them all over the country?? Sigh. The love triangle gets a new angle (sorry, couldn't resist) with identical twins. And being that this is a series, there's a cliffhanger and loose ends... including explanations that could be clarified in short order if this were only one book.

Still, it's different enough that I suspect teens will really enjoy it.

If I had to summarize my thoughts and feelings for Unbreakable by new to me author, Kami Garcia, into only one word, that word would be WOW! This story immediately grabbed me by the neck and ankles, dragged me in and wouldn’t let go. Upon finishing this story, the primary questions filling my mind are:

1. Where has this author been?
2. Why have I never read anything by this amazing author before now?
3. Why do I not have the second book in this series already residing on my Kindle?

I loved Kennedy and immediately felt a connection to this character. She’s a strong character and she has an old soul, despite her teenage chronology. Kennedy has to learn very quickly how to stand on her own two feet and survive in a world filled with evil demons and vengeance spirits determined to kill her. This story introduces four other equally amazing characters; twins Jared and Lukas, Alara and Priest. These characters make up The Legion, a secret society committed to protecting the world from a demon, who is hell-bent on killing them all. Members of their families were all murdered on the same night as Kennedy’s mother and when the demon tries to murder Kennedy in her sleep, she meets Jared and Lukas when they break into her home and save her life. Now all five are in a race against time to find the weapon they believe will destroy the demon once and for all, if they can survive that long.

This story gets high marks for intensity. The author does a brilliant job of illustrating the intensity to give the reader a very real sense of what the characters are feeling and experiencing. There is a very suspenseful scene in a well and another with an electric chair that had me on the edge of my seat feeling my blood pressure rising. This story also gets high marks for the character development. All of the characters demonstrate unique and interesting personalities that drew me to them. I also enjoyed the spark of romance…I mean really; you got to have some romance amongst all the death, destruction, murder and mayhem, right? The struggle for me is who I want to see Kennedy with more, Jared or Lukas. I need the next book, like yesterday, so I can find out what happens next!

My Final Verdict: If you have never read anything in the young adult or urban fantasy genre, Unbreakable is an excellent choice to begin with. Be prepared for a major cliff-hanger at the end, however. I highly recommend this story and encourage you to have the second book on hand so you can get right on it and find out what happens next!
