Thank you Little Brown Books and Netgalley for this eARC, these opinions are my own. A very quick and cute read! Evan has a large instagram following and feels he’s a great matchmaker. After all he nudged his sister and her now husband (who used to be the neighbor) together. So when new girl Natalia comes to school he decides to match her up. His neighbor and best friend Davi, doesn’t think this is a good idea. Especially as he’s worried Evan will make it about who he likes for Natalia. Is Davi right? Can Evan find a good match for Natalia? and what about Evan, can he find a match for himself? Or is it all doomed? A cutesy romantic graphic novel that readers will zoom through! Equal parts fun and lovey!! Anne Camlin and Isadora Zeferino do a fantastic job with the story and art!

Mismatched is a modern retelling of Emma in graphic novel format. I loved lots of things about this book! First of all, the queer representation is fantastic & the illustrations were absolutely adorable.
Our main character is an openly gay teenager & IG influencer who continually tries to match up his friends in their GSA. I so appreciated all of the diversity & queer rep. That being said, I was more invested in most of the side characters. The main character had a tendency to be a little bit rude with his suggestions & although his storyline includes growth and taking responsibility... I wanted him to grow as a character a little bit more.
That being said, this is an adorable book & a very fast read. I definitely recommend checking this one out! Thanks to NetGalley, Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, & Anne Camlin for the chance to read and review

Just like the tagline says Mismatched by Anne Camlin is a “modern graphic retelling of Emma.” Evan, like Austen’s Emma, is vain and ready to set up all of his friends (in matches that may or may not actually be good for them.)

I really enjoyed the similarities between Mismatched and Emma, and I think the modernization of it works well, but I wish certain modern elements had more of a role to play.
For example: Evan is a social media make up influencer, but there isn’t really a lot of make up scenes. Minus one in the beginning when oops, Natalia is very allergic to it. It struck me as odd, that someone who had cultivated their identity around makeup didn’t think to test any on his friend’s hands or arms before diving directly into her face with something she outright says she never wears.
And while there are a few instagram posts and images, I wish there had been more or that Evan’s internals had been displayed in such a medium. I feel like that was a lost opportunity to really play with format.
Overall, Mismatched is a very quick read but cute and to the point. I recommend it for everyone especially for those with a soft spot for LGBTQIA+ retllings of their favorite regency novels.

It can be so hard for a modern novel to do a retelling of a classic story, and to balance the elements of the original story with new twists without verbatim retelling of the original narrative. Luckily, "Mismatched" strikes this balance perfectly! I thought this was a fantastic retelling of "Emma" for a modern teen audience, with both humor and heart. Camlin remains faithful to the source material while managing to update the situations and characters for a modern audience. I loved the character of Evan, I thought that the author did a great job of creating a queer character with realistic virtues and flaws. I also enjoyed the overall diversity of the supporting cast, in both ethnicity and identity. The art style was very cute and fun, and I think this will be popular with a lot of readers.

When I started this book I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about finishing it, the pacing threw me off a little and I wasn’t sure that I liked the storyline.
With it being a graphic novel, it was a very quick read and I got through it within an hour or two. I don’t know much about Emma or Emma retelling, but I did end up enjoying the book.
With it being an uncorrected ARC it felt like there were ‘chapters’ missing, and the plot would jump from one important scene to the next.
However, I did end up enjoying the book itself, and I would go back and read it if I needed a quick and easy read again.

Cute fun and wonderfully adorable read for this summer. I love the light hearted reads when I can! And gotta love a retelling with modern contemporary twists

Thank You to Netgalley, author, illustrator, and publisher for sending me an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The cover is stunningly illustrated, eye-catching, and cute. I enjoyed how the author presented and tackled the novel's themes of varied sexualities, gender identifications, personalities, and pasts. All the characters developed nicely. Readers can identify the flaws and traits of each character in the narrative. I found it realistic and interesting how some of the characters had to overcome obstacles to feel comfortable being themselves. The graphic novel teaches people to treat everyone with respect and kindness while trying to avoid passing judgment or making assumptions about others before getting to know them. The illustrations that appeared throughout the text were fantastic, but they were hazy at times in the e-book version, which could be due to a conversion issue. The primary critique I have, even though it contributes to Evan's overall character growth and learning, is the way he reacts, acts, and behaves toward some of the other characters because they do not behave or like the same things he does in real life. I believe the author could have possibly had Evan be a little less harsh towards them while still retaining his character development and learning over the narrative. The story is a loose adaptation of Emma, with Evan's matchmaking, but readers do not need to have read Emma to enjoy this book. The graphic novel contains excellent visuals, teachings, character development, and a plot that is simple to read, comprehend, and follow. Mismatched, written by Anne Camlin and drawn by Isadora Zeferino, is for individuals who enjoy good character development, the voyage of self-discovery and love, and the art of learning to value our friendships with others.

I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed the story and the artwork was beautiful, an interesting modern take on Emma.

I liked this one. The artwork was beautiful, and I really like how Evan had some character growth despite how short the book was. It did get kind of confusing, in the beginning, the all of the characters but you knew them better by the end. Overall this was a fun graphic novel and I’m glad I read it!

Evan Horowitz has it all. He's a semi-famous beauty influencer, president of the Gay Straight Alliance club at his school and a best friend for life living right next door. When new girl Natalia moves to school, he puts his strengths to good use and helps her from becoming the social outcast she seems destined to become (joining anime club and dating the quiet girl from GSA? Not on Evan's watch!)
An adorable retelling of Jane Austen's 'Emma' through a new queer lens. I really appreciated the characters and identities throughout the book! It honestly could've been longer and I would've loved it even more.

Thanks to NetGalley & the publisher for the ARC!
As a Jane Austen lover, I thought this queer graphic novel retelling of Emma was sweet and well done. The art style is really cute, and the characters are sufficiently complicated, which is pretty surprising for a short graphic novel with a fairly large cast. I think knowing Emma will be helpful for anyone reading this, but not strictly necessary - the characters are messy and complicated like real teenagers, but I like that when they make mistakes they learn from them.

“Mismatched” is a visually stunning graphic novel with beautiful and colorful artwork that truly makes the story pop. The charming characters and cute setting add to its appeal, making it a delightful read. However, the story feels a bit directionless at times, with moments that seem scattered and lacking in structure and depth
I'm aware that this is a retelling, maybe if I knew the original story I would've understood some things better but that sadly wasn't the case.
The story is great, it's fun, light-hearted and comes with beautiful artwork!

This was a cute and quick read for pride month. I thought it was a fun and imaginative retelling of Emma by Jane Austin and I'd recommend it to fans!

I know this was a retelling (I do not know anything of the originally oops). I really enjoyed this. At first I wasn’t feeling the mc but as the story went on I did love him. The story was lacking a bit more plot tbh. The artwork is beautiful though. Overall a nice lighthearted read that I would recommend

I really did love the artwork for this one, however, I’m not a fan of Emma retellings which is why I think that this story was lacking for me. I found myself struggling to relate to the characters. I think it could be a cute story for fans of Emma or Jane Austen but I think that this one just missed the mark for me.
