This book was read very slowly through a slump, but was enjoyable enough on a passive scale! May reread through and update my rating soon.

I don’t have much to say about this book besides that it haunted me for days after. It will tear your heart out. It will make you want to hug a tree. And it does have a maybe demonic but certainly lovable cat. Five stars

Three outcasts come together to fight in the Wild Hunt, a dangerous event in the magical wilds that is full of trickery and danger. Branwen is a huntress, able to see magic due to an incident as a baby. The only thing she's good at is hunting the things no one else can see, and her mother is slipping out of her grip. If she wins the hunt, she can cure her mother. Gwydion is the trickster of the court, youngest prince, with a unique and wild magic. He needs to win the hunt to change his uncle's mind about his heir. And Pryderi is a prince and a monster, stolen as a baby and raised by a monster, now fighting to figure out who he truly is. The trio aligns in the hopes to make it out alive and with what they need.
The three main characters are all very interesting. I think Pryderi was my favorite, but I love an angsty dude. Gwydion was also really interesting, but a trickster is usually fantastic. The world building, especially the concept of divining, was cool, as was Branwen's connection to magic. I will say, though, it super did not end how I was hoping it would.

Once again, Emily Lloyd-Jones delivers. I absoutly love her Welsh tasles. Where we had zombies in her first Welsh tale, a magical water diviner in her second, this third brings us right into The Wild Hunt. Where mortals and the Otherfolk are brought together to compete for a boon gifted by the Otherking. A b00n that three very ambitius peole are interested in winning. With secrets and trust battling together between our three main characters, some have more to loose in his Hunt that they were originally planning.

This book was so fun. I adored the Welsh mythology, the fae, and the MCs! Everyone was complex. The prose was dreamy and atmospheric yet stayed far away from purple prose. Also, the Hunt?! Such a cool twist on the classic myth!

Thank you to the author, publisher, and Net Galley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed the Wild Huntress. I enjoyed the magic system, getting to know the characters, and the world Lloyd-Jones built. This was a fast paced action adventure. It's nice to have a good stand alone fantasy novel sometimes. The pacing was a little slow at first, but I understand building the back story.. I will be purchasing this for our high school library and telling my students about it.

Emily Lloyd-Jones does it again. Her books set in mystical and magical Wales are enchanting and spellbinding each time. Her characters are gripping and lovable, even when committing acts of betrayal or evil. They are always fully-fleshed out humans, dancing across the page. My only complaint, if you can call it a complaint, is that I so desperately wish she would write an epic, adult fantasy series in her wonderfully expansive universe.

I received an advanced copy of The Wild Huntress from Netgalley and the publisher and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Give me anything written by Emily Lloyd-Jones, and I will devour it. I have not read a single book of hers that I dislike, and The Wild Huntress is no exception. This book was everything I was looking for, from the characters to the world to the plot.

Branwen is a great main character. Her perseverance and dedication are to be admired. I would have loved more character development (for all of the characters, honestly), but what I did get was great. Part of what drew me to the characters, specifically Branwen and Gwydion, was their steadfastness. They were who they were and made no apologies for that fact, another admirable trait. As for Pryderi, he was my favorite of the three. His internal struggle between being a prince and being a monster was the driving force of his character. I looked forward to every one of his chapters because I found him to be the most compelling in his struggle. However, I did enjoy all of the chapters, no matter whose point of view we were in. Each character was so unique and interesting.

I love the world that the author has created. I don't know much about Welsh mythology, but the author does a great job of incorporating it without being too heavy-handed. At no point was I confused about what the characters were talking about (despite some words that I fear I will never know how to pronounce). It was immersive and fascinating.

As for the plot, it was a bit slow-moving at first, but the moment we got to the hunt, the pace did not stop. I could not put this book down. I was thoroughly invested in the outcome of the hunt, and I can honestly say that the way it played out was not at all what I was expecting. The romance was a little rushed but satisfying. I cannot say more because of spoilers, but know that I am devastated by the ending. Utterly wrecked.

The Wild Huntress was beautiful. I loved every moment. If you're looking for a magical, gorgeously woven tale, this book is for you. You should still read this book even if you're not looking for that. And every other book by Emily Lloyd-Jones.

The Bone Houses is one of my favorite books of all time, and when I found out that there would be a third book set in this universe, I was ecstatic. Unfortunately, I have mixed feelings about this one. I really enjoyed the first 80% of the book, but it really went downhill in the last 20%. It didn't feel like a companion novel to The Bone Houses. There was no real tie-in to either The Bone Houses or The Drowned Woods, and it didn't have the same cozy adventure feel as the other books. I also found the love interest to be one of the most repulsive, cowardly love interests. I could have done without the romance. I wish this book had been a standalone set in another world with no ties to The Bone Houses. I think I would have liked it better if I hadn't been expecting something cozier/more fun/light.

An absolutely perfect stand alone! I have no notes and only wish there was more from this author so I could go through her entire backlist. I loved how each character was so distinct and how immersive the writing was.

Another wonderful Welsh mythology-inspired book from Emily Lloyd-Jones, set in the same universe as The Drowned Woods and The Bone Houses. Though you don't need to read those other two books before reading this one, why wouldn't you? They're all great! Tales of The Wild Hunt are some of my favorite, and this one did not disappoint, giving the Hunt a refreshing, interesting twist. The characters were all well-developed and complex, and the story itself was thrilling, humorous, tragic, and wondrous, in equal turns. I cannot recommend this author enough.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

I loved this retelling of the Wild Hunt legend. I think the writing and the worldbuilding were excellent. This story takes place in a previously created world but you do not need to read the other books to read this one.

Loved It, 4.5 stars (rounded to 5 on Goodreads)

I have been loving the world that Emily Lloyd-Jones has created in her Welsh folklore-inspired fantasies, and The Wild Huntress is no different. In The Wild Huntress, every five years, two kingdoms participate in the Wild Hunt where hundreds of participants gamble their lives to win the prize of a magical wish granted by the Otherking.

I absolutely adored the characters that we followed: Branwen, the huntress, Gwydion, the trickster, and Pryderi, the prince raised by monsters. Each character has their own reasons and motivations to join the hunt, and I loved seeing how they came together and how their personalities meshed. I loved each one of them individually and especially as the group.

The vibes of this book were also absolutely immaculate. It is set at the end of fall, transitioning into winter. It is a super atmospheric read with magic and monsters, and there's a certain amount of mystery and haunting-ness to the story itself.

I especially love the way that the author gives the backstory of the characters and wraps up these books. It makes it feel so much like a fairytale, and is something I really love about these books.

The reason that it was 4.5 stars instead of 5 was because the ending felt a bit rushed. I feel like I didn't have enough time to sit with the events to fully let the emotional ramifications set in. I still loved it though.

Couldn't be more excited about this newest release from one of my favorite authors! Loved the lush setting, sense of adventure, and strong female protagonist. A must-read for YA fantasy lovers, especially if you love mythology and fae stories.

The Wild Huntress follows a trickster, a huntress, and a prince as they enter a deadly tournament on magical land. I absolutely devoured this book and loved everything about it from the characters to the plot to the setting. This was definitely my favorite book by Emily Lloyd-Jones so far, and I am so excited for any future works (especially if there is any chance we ever get a short story or novella following the cat's past).

I received an ARC from Little, Brown Books for Young Readers via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

thanks to netgalley for providing me an e-arc of this book in exchange for a review!

this was a fun, entertaining, and intriguing YA fantasy romance. branwen was the standout character for me, and at times i wished the entire story was told from her pov because i wanted to know more about what was going on in her head. the last third of this book really picks up in intensity and stakes, and the author does a great job of building a tense and satisfying climax to the story.

The Wild huntress is a fast paced and entrancing return to a world I already loved but following characters entirely new to readers.

What I adored
1 .Great pacing
2.Excellent dialogue use
3. Morally complex characters

who i would recommend this title for

This title is an excellent treat for existing fans of Emily Lloyd-Jones but also serves as a great stand alone entry point for newer fantasy readers.

This story surprised me in the best way. It is beautifully written, with compelling characters (3 POVs), witty banter, a very subtle romance, and a possibly man-eating cat.

I especially loved that this is a harder story - not everything is what it seems, and some of those scenes were a gut punch to the heart.

This is just a really beautifully told story. Perfect fantasy standalone.
