Marcie and David Bowers’ walk is interrupted by a car plunging off a bridge into a freezing river. Without thinking, David dives in, reaches the rapidly sinking car and rescues the driver. He’s an instant hero but with fame comes…what? A missing pet, a coffee pot in the dryer, misplaced ID? These small. aggressive acts lead to so much, much more in this convoluted mystery by James Patterson and David Ellis. David Bowers owns a popular local bar. Could his fame have made him a target? Marcie is a lawyer with a local practice but once worked for a major Chicago firm. Is there something in her past that is threatening her now? Doubt, suspicion, jealousy and more weave together in this unputdownable thriller. Marcie and David are strong characters trying to save their family from the unknown. You’ll keep guessing until the last page. What more could you expect from Patterson and Ellis? 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, Little, Brown and Company, James Patterson and David Ellis for this ARC.
One thing Patterson and Ellis are both notorious for is their convoluted webs of lies that somehow read easily. This was no exception. It takes a talented author (or two) to include so many secrets and twists without making it confusing or feeling forced. I had a suspicious about one of the twists but I never could have guessed the rest!
This was nonstop action from start to finish. I really enjoyed Marcie and a few of our other characters. I fear if I say who it will spoil some things 😂
Marcie and David have settled down in a small town where they own a pub and Marcie works as a family lawyer. Everything seems to be great until a mob boss Marcie helped put away is released and strange things begin to happen but are they connected. Nothing major goes on until the secrets start to catch up with both David and Marcie and no one knows who to trust.
This was a fast paced page turner that kept me reading long after my bedtime. The twists just kept coming. I hadn't picked up a James Patterson book in a bit but now I'm going to be reading more.
Marcie and David are living in a small town, where she is a lawyer and he owns a pub. Suddenly, weird things happen at their house - coffee pot goes missing, dog gets out of a fenced yard, etc. They don’t think much about it until Marcie sees a car parked in front of their house early in the morning. Why are they being targeted? Maybe her husband isn’t exactly who she thinks he is 🤷♀️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What a great pair to coauthor this book, a modern day dynamic duo. This one was packed with tension and emotions. I got hooked at the very beginning and stayed that way until the final paragraph. Fantastic characters that kept me wound so tight throughout the book. Don’t let this one get away.
Thank you NetGalley, James Patterson, David Ellis and Little, Brown and Company for the opportunity to read and review this cracker of a book.
Oh this is sooo good. I always love James Patterson books, but I’m a bit skeptical when they are co-authored. This one shattered that skepticism.
Marcie and David are celebrating their anniversary by going back to the place where they met. When a car goes over the bridge, David doesn’t hesitate and jumps in to save the driver. But, when David’s heroic efforts go viral on social media their world gets turned upside down.
A coffee pot in the dryer, the missing dog from the yard that gets returned a few hours later, their home break-in with a message spray painted on the wall – and things just get worse from there.
I don’t normally love books that James Patterson co-authors – but this was the exception. This was amazing! A fast paced adventure that kept me on my toes. I could not turn the pages fast enough and read in one sitting.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Dave and Marcie live in a small town. He is the owner of a pub and she is a local lawyer. They have two kids and their lives seem perfect.Dave and Marcie are celebrating Dave birthday, reminiscing of their engagement by a local bridge when, unexpectedly, a car goes crashing off the bridge into the river. Dave doesn't hesitate to rescue the victim but his heroism open doors that reveal the Lies He has told . Will anyone escape the Lies or will they consume everything?

I really enjoyed this novel. Had me interested from the very beginning. Highly recommend. Thanks NetGalley for the advanced copy. #LiesHeToldMe #NetGalley
David and Marcie are out for their anniversary when they see a car erratically drive off a bridge and into the river. David jumps into action to try and save the man inside, and in doing so becomes a local hero and a viral sensation. Except once his face is broadcast everywhere, dangerous people from his past resurface and Marcie has no idea what he’s been hiding all these years.
This was a great read! It was fast-paced with short chapters and a lot of momentum throughout. There was a little bit about the mob (not usually my thing), but it worked with this story. I would highly recommend this one!
4.5 stars

This delivers everything we expect from James Patterson. A mystery/thriller with twists and turns and great writing. It was a quick read, had me wanting to keep going throughout.
David and Marcie Bowers have it all. David owns a restaurant/pub, Marcie owns her own family law practice, they have two wonderful children, a beautiful house, everything they want. Until secrets emerge, lies are uncovered, and things go very wrong.
A fast-paced thriller with a lot of twists and turns, danger, deceit, and so much more! Loved it!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I have read numerous books by James Patterson, and this book is a very good collaboration with David Ellis. Central to the story are Marcie and David Bowers, a married couple living outside of Chicago in Hemingway Grove. There are lots of twists and turns and a satisfying conclusion. This story starts slowly and becomes fast paced, a good weekend read. Recommended.
Wow! It was really hard to put this James Patterson book down! I've read almost all his books and this is one of my new faves. Marcie is an attorney and the mother of two and her husband is a liar with a secret life. Her husband, David, owns the local pub. One night he dives into the river to save a drowning man and becomes a hero with is face splashed all over the media nationwide. Soon after, the trouble starts. Get ready to go on a wild ride with this book. I highly recommend it. Thanks to @NetGalley for the ARC of this great book.
A fantastic, intense thriller by two excellent authors. This novel was full of suspense and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time!! This is a unique, intriguing and complex plot with an interesting cast of characters. Highly recommended to anyone who likes psychological thrillers, legal thrillers as well as detective/mystery novels!!

I think David Ellis is my favorite JP co-author. He does a great job developing the characters, and always puts in some great twists that you don't see coming. Very clever for a fast-paced thriller!
Marcie almost loses her husband when he jumps in a river to save a man after his car drove off a bridge. A short time later, weird things start happening around their house. The coffee pot in the dryer, a missing court badge, their dog goes missing and then mysteriously reappears back in their yard. There is definitely something strange going on.
The story is told mainly from Marcie's POV in the 1st person, but also various other characters' POV, including the mysterious 'bad guy' and the local police sergeant, Kyle, who was also Marcie's high school boyfriend.
With so many twists all the way through, and quick, short chapters, this book was hard to put down!
This was my first novel by either James Patterson or David Ellis and WOW, I think I've been missing out!
I absolutely DEVOURED this fast paced, exciting and twisty thriller. This book scoots you right along, with short chapters, lots of energy and never a dull moment, I think I read this in two sittings.
I adored the main character, Marcie. I love a strong female main character who is willing to go to any lengths to protect the people she loves. I loved her faith, her passion and her ability to go balls to the wall in a terrifying situation. She is smart, savvy and a badass.
This book hits you with twist after twist. The moment you think you know what's going on, it slaps you across the face with something new and forces you to rethink what you thought you knew.
Lies He Told Me was wildly entertaining and gets a resounding 5 stars from me!
Marcie and David Bowers were living a quiet life with their 2 children in Illinois, with Marcie being an attorney and David owning a pub. That all changes one day when David jumps in a river to save a man who was drowning. His picture is all over the news and suddenly strange things start happening to them. They find things moved in their home, and lose their dog amongst other things. Turns out, Marcie never really knew her husband David. Was his real name even David? The rest of the book follows the characters on a hunt for stolen money.
I have always enjoyed James Patterson and recently became a fan of David Ellis so I was thrilled to read this book. In typical Patterson fashion, the chapters are very short and end with suspense making you want to read, ‘just one more chapter’. As seems to be a theme for Ellis, there are some wild twists throughout the story that I did not see coming. About 3/4 of the way through the book I was skeptical they were going to be able to bring all the ends together but I shouldn’t have worried because all of the questions I had were answered by the end.
I would recommend this for anyone looking for a suspenseful thriller and a quick read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Little Brown and Co for providing me this advanced readers copy.
I really enjoyed this one. Lots of twists and turns, some that felt predictable but don’t worry another comes along to throw you completely off. Fast paced and easy to read!
This book was slow and I struggled to finish it. The characters were underwhelming and honestly didn’t matter to me. I was not invested in any of them or their survival.
