Family secrets make for a mystery that a child character can investigate without real danger while still giving them stakes, a reason to care. It's harder, though, for the reader to care about something so personal to the character. While I liked the idea of the investigation helping Andi make new friends I didn't feel like the book was tight and polished enough to really recommend it.
