John Dempsey is back but he is a changed man after the events in Russia. But that is expected, how could John be the same after spending time in a notorious Russian prison. John is not sure where or how to fit in his old life and not sure about his future but he is always country first and will go all out to save the day.
There are major changes in this book that happen fairly soon at the beginning of the book. An old love interest comes back into John’s life. Jarvis and Petra have big changes. Also, we get updates on Jake.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved getting to know new things about some background characters that do not often get personal focus. Another great book and even better it seems like the Ember team and John Dempsey saga is far from over. I love the action and thriller genre and this series does not disappoint. I cannot wait for the next book.
This book is a solid 4.5 stars! Thank you to Andrew’s & Wilson and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book.
I loved this book. It's written so well. The plot is compelling and feels relevant. The action is amazing. I love seeing the same characters in so many books so I feel like I know the characters right away. It was interesting seeing Elinor pop up again and see the changes in Jarvis.
I also really like that Dempsey's son is showing up more in his own seal training. I really like the thread/direction the story is taking with him.
I can't wait to read the next book in the series. Thank you to Blackstone Publishing for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
John Dempsey returns home from his Russian op a changed man. He is almost immediately thrown back into the mix along with Ember as an assassin seeks to cause havoc on American lives. This one brings old friends - and enemies - back into Dempsey’s life. Thanks to NetGalley for the read! Dempsey is one of the best characters out there rivaling Mitch Rapp, James Reece, Scot Harvath, and Pike Logan.
Another great addition to the Tier One series. This was a good way to get Dempsey back with Ember and the plot was great. Lots of twists and turns with the surprise to start the book that had big implications for the whole plot. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next entry in the series.
Great book full of action and suspense this is a great series of books this is one of the best book in the series which are more to come
Displeased with the strengthening economic and military ties between India and the U.S., China turns to a terror organization in Andrews & Wilson’s Ember.
A&W are unicorns. They write books in the time I write a review, and unlike my reviews, their books don’t suck. They are topnotch and the unicorns are unafraid to take chances and push our imaginations into areas I’d rather leave unimagined.
The unicorns live in the military/political realm but their books offer much more. There’s action and violence balanced with intelligence, heart, and love—love of country, teammates, family, and humanity. Extreme actions have consequences and the characters struggle with them. The characters’ emotional toll forces us to look inside ourselves.
Thank you to Blackstone Publishing and NetGalley for the advanced copy of Ember.
Book 8 of this series and I feel like we are just getting started. This book series seems to have found its footing. The beginning is action packed and I couldn't turn pages quick enough. Dempsey is back with Ember after suffering in a Russian prison and is having a hard time connecting with his team. The family like dynamics are not coming back quick enough. This and uncovering who is behind a conspiracy to change the world order keep this book moving, Well grounded in reality. I feel like this could be taken from real life as horrific as it may seem. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for further books in the series.
I love this series and it keeps getting better and better. Amazing character development and enough ongoing plot to keep me waiting for the next book. Not too long I hope.
Ember, book 8 in the Tier One series, picks up shortly after the end of book 7. Dempsey is finding his way back to himself and his team mentally and physically. But the world goes on and when a vicious attack changes everything, the Ember team is sent out to investigate and take care of the problem. In the meantime, Dempsey's son is now a SEAL living in the shadow of his father's reputation.
This is a rock-solid series with well-established characters who still grow and change. The relationships are fun and dynamic. The action is a complete thrill ride, and the plot is grounded in reality. This is one of my favorite series and writing duos.
I loved this book and would recommend it to those who love great action/military thrillers.
Not family friendly due to profanity and violence.
The Tier One series is back, and Andrews and Wilson bring an absolute firestorm to the pages within Ember.
John Dempsey, the leader of Ember’s Special Activities Division, is back heading the group after a nasty bout with Russians in Dempsey. While the U.S. President is signing an agreement where the United States will support the Indian defense, former frogman and current Vice President Kelso Jarvis is in Israel visiting a very sick friend.
*Insert poetic pause* Now all hell breaks loose.
At this point, where you think you got a feel for the speed that A&W are delivering another well developing book, bombs, and bullets litter scenes like confetti in New York City on New Years Eve. As bodies start to drop, people are forced into situations and positions that they never believed possible.
Dempsey and team begin the investigation and hunt into who is at fault as they start one of the greatest manhunts of all time. Along with the stress of being forced into a combined effort search including the Indian National Investigation Agency, Dempsey and team learn that there are other bombs that are in play and a potential attack on another prominent country leader. When the bombs start going off and lead starts flying again, Ember is in place to help quell the concert rattle of rifles and small arms fire and keep people safe.
Throughout the entirety of the Tier One series, you’ve had small storylines that are picked up and some that are just mentioned in passing. There are two huge storylines that play into Ember that are going to have huge implications in the future of this series if you can read between the lines. They show an older and wiser Dempsey but also a man who has been torn by the past. The team is growing but the emotions that run throughout the team are the same as they have ever been.
Action packed and fiery in this all-out battle from beginning to end from the dynamic duo of Andrews and Wilson. These two seasoned veterans know how to capture your attention and draw you in and they will wow you non-stop with character development, the necessary antagonists, and the riveting battle scenes. I was thoroughly impressed with this installment and can’t wait to see where the future of this series goes.
Ember - I selected this book because I was impressed with the authors' book Tom Clancy Act of Defiance. This time, I was not happy. I had a hard time getting into this story and it never grabbed and took me for a ride. This may just be me or maybe, as it appeared to me, a difference in the writing style. This is the eighth book in the Tier One series. Three stars is not a negative review, it means I found the book to be average. Source: Netgalley. 3*
Tom Clancy Act of Defiance - I read The Hunt For Red October by Tom Clancy when it first was released and later, enjoyed the movie. Serendipitously, I discovered TC AoD. I stopped reading Clancy's books a few years after Red October and was not aware of this series with TC AoD being 24th book. There is no difference between these two books in terms of writing style, story lines, characters, dialog, intrigue, suspense, etc. There is a link and parallels between the two books that makes for an immersing read. I will be starting with the first book of this series to see if the rest of the series holds a candle to TC AoD. Source: Netgalley. 5*
Buckle up for Book 8 in the Tier One Series and take ride with Ember down a white knuckled, action packed thriller that will leave you wanting more.
This is a completely different Dempsy after coming back from Russia and spending time in the Russian prison system. He is having a hard time fitting in with Ember, even though they are his family. Assassinations and attempts on political leaders’ lives abound thanks to a new terrorist network.
Eleanor Jordan makes an appearance, but her future with Dempsy is unclear. Jake Kemper starts connecting the dots and is solidifying his role in future Tier One Books
Warfare by proxy goes next level in Ember when China sponsors and builds up a minor Islamic radical group to perform decapitation strikes on the heads of state of the U.S. and India. The aftermath takes Ember places no one would have ever anticipated (unless you are up on your Jack Ryan plot lines - nuf said). Ember is a terrific, nail-biting, techno thriller addition to the Tier One saga.
Ember continues the Tier One and John Dempsey store. Great continued development of all characters leading to new roles, new enemies, old allies etc. Lots of action.
Dempsey continues to recover from his mission to Russia, Kelso Jarvis grindingly serves as Vice President but is forced to become President.
Highly recommend this book and look forward to more books in the series. Another great book by Andrews and Wilson
Another Tier One Thriller from Andrews & Wilson and it is a banger. Tons of action, great cast of characters(old & new), and a plot that will keep you on your toes. You simply can't go wrong reading anything by the co-authors and this book sets up for another Tier One Thriller featuring Ember. So just buy the book when published and buckle up for the ride.
Thanks to Blackstone Publishing , NetGalley, and Andrews & Wilson for the ARC of this thrill ride. I HIGHLY recommend this novel.
Ember – Andrews & Wilson
John Dempsey is back in Florida recovering from his imprisonment in Russia when he is called upon to get involved with a rapidly deteriorating situation in the Middle East & Asia.
This whole region has become more unstable than ever before and Ember is dispatched to find out what is at the root of it all.
A new terrorist group is taking credit for the destabilization but Dempsey has other ideas about who is responsible for this mess.
As he digs deeper into this puzzle he finds someone who he was sure was dead.
Buckle up kids, it’s going to be quite the ride.
Andrews and Wilson take their characters forward with fresh ideas and exciting developments, some taken right out of the headlines and some that seem eerily plausible in the not so distant future. The action’s tactical and the narrative is engaging.
Ember is an explosive and pulse-pounding thrill ride that revs up to full-throttle quickly and doesn’t let up for the duration. An adrenaline-fueled adventure filled with direct action, deception and vengeance. Another tier one banger of a story from Brian Andrews and Jeff Wilson.
John Dempsey is back with Ember, recovering from his harrowing mission in Russia. Meanwhile, Vice President Kelso Jarvis is mourning the loss of his mentor when someone takes a shot at the Israeli Prime Minister at the same time as a devastating terrorist attack occurs in India. An Islamic terrorist organization known as al Ghadab claims responsibility for these attacks. Now Jarvis turns to his old team, Ember, with tasking to hunt down the terrorist organization’s leader, Abu Musad Umar. Sending John Dempsey and team to India to investigate the rising threat and prosecute those behind it with extreme prejudice.
There is a ton of weaponry, tactics, espionage and taking the fight to the bad guys, sure to excite and satiate any military thriller fan. And it’s awesome! But what takes Ember to another level are what I would call the character developmental parts of the story. Jarvis saying goodbye to his mentor and stepping up for his country once again when called upon to do so. Dempsey trying to find his place again with Ember and reconcile how he’s changed after his rough solo mission in Russia. The return of a character long thought dead, one who has a complicated past with Dempsey. And much more. All of which add depth, emotion and heart to a story that brings the heat with violence and doling out death to the bad guys.
In addition, Ember appears to be a transitional book that sets up a new story arc. Suggesting Dempsey and team will be quite busy for the foreseeable future. Paving the way for more bangers from the pen of Andrews and Wilson. Great news for thriller fans.
