I thought the premise was really nice, but the actual execution fell short. I think there were several chapters, sections, that could've been removed. I think the writing just wasn't quite there to get the vision completed.
Assassins in Vegas, say no more. I am already here!
This book seemed to have some good promise, but as I read more I found myself very bored and just not interested in the story.
I did decide to DNF @ 30%. maybe one day I will pick it back up, but I am not in a rush.
Thanks to the publisher & Netgalley for the arc copy.

In the neon-lit heart of Las Vegas, where fortunes are won and lost, Kyle K. Wolfson deals us a hand of suspense, intrigue, and high-stakes danger in his novel, “The Vegas Flop.” With a backdrop as glittering as the Strip itself, this action-packed thriller invites readers to place their bets on a game where the stakes are life and death.
Summary and characters:
Meet Lucas Green, a specialist assassin with a unique talent: orchestrating deaths to appear as accidents. Crashed cars, overdoses, and road rage—these are the tricks up his sleeve. When cartel boss Carlos Guerra orders him to eliminate Grant Anderson, Lucas faces a seemingly straightforward task. But in the labyrinthine world of Las Vegas, nothing is ever simple.
Grant, the unsuspecting target, has just inherited a real estate business from his late Uncle Paul Sherman. Little does he know that Paul’s dealings with the local cartel run deep. As Grant grapples with a house piled high with trash and loneliness far from his family, he becomes entangled in a web of danger.
Enter Detective Tracy Cook, a newly minted Las Vegas detective. She senses the subtle ties between Paul Sherman and the cartels, even if no one else believes her. Her off-the-books investigation leads her straight to Grant and his mysterious neighbor, Lucas Green.
My review:
Wolfson masterfully weaves these characters’ lives together, creating a collision course of competing interests. As the clock ticks, the tension escalates. Who will emerge victorious—the detective, the real estate agent, the assassin, or the drug dealer? In a city where secrets are currency and alliances shift like desert sands, the answer remains uncertain.
The Vegas Flop is a rollercoaster ride through the underbelly of Sin City. Wolfson’s writing crackles with authenticity, and his characters leap off the page. The unconventional premise —a killer who stages accidents—adds a fresh twist to the thriller genre. As the plot unfolds, you’ll find yourself rooting for unlikely heroes and questioning allegiances.
This book was a fun ride from beginning to end. The pacing keeps you hooked, and the twists and turns will leave you breathless. Whether you’re a seasoned gambler or a first-time visitor to Vegas, this novel is a sure bet. Highly recommended for fans of suspense, mystery, and anyone who loves a good gamble.
In The Vegas Flop, the house doesn’t always win. Sometimes, it’s the players who hold all the aces. 🎲
I absolutely loved this book! I cannot wait to read more by this author! the book captures you on the very first page and carries you to the end in the unuputdownable story! the characters are complex and interesting, the story is filled with twists and turns, murder and mayhem and unpredictable events!A very entertaining witty story! A real page turner and a must must read!
The Vegas Flop is filled with successful characters. From police detective to real estate agent to bad guys the author, Kyle K. Wolfson makes each character worth the role. The action proceeds nicely and we find that all is not as it appears, which is good, I guess, as killings are prime in people's minds. I enjoyed the story and recommend it to others.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC.
a fast-paced thriller that kept my attention. it was well written and was entertaining but not much else stood out to me.
Thank you so much for the arc. I loved the summary and had high hopes for this book but it feel short. The beginning was very hard to get into, a slow start. I felt that all of the conversations felt very forced and not normal. I also felt that the ikea breastfeeding chapter was super unnecessary. Overall it just wasn’t for me.
Very original and engaging plot. The first half of the book really sucks you in and makes you want to know more.
The premise sounded really clever so I was excited to see what this book had to offer. For the most part, this book delivers as promised in that there are multiple storylines that all converge and work pretty well together. There are a few chapters that I felt could have been removed with no damage to the overall story (ex. the IKEA chapter - it seemed more like this was something the author had actually witnessed and was looking for a way to write it into one of his books, it does nothing for character or plot development and the humor of it falls pretty flat). Grant has got to be the luckiest person ever - despite Lucas's best attempts at setting him up for an accidental death he just keeps coming out of it okay. And considering he spends about half the book traumatized by the events from the break-in I was a little thrown by how quickly he snaps out of it and goes buy himself a new gun. My biggest complaint about the book is that by the end it just feels too unresolved. A good portion of Tracy's storyline is about helping with the investigation at her mother's casino but we never get to learn who was behind it all and why they were framing her mother. Also, does Tracy get to solve the case involving the house flipping scheme or does that all go away now that the main players in it are all dead? Does Grant get to keep all the money? And when exactly did Lucas realize where that money was hidden? The big double-cross reveal at the end was a nice twist, but considering Lucas had been trying to kill Grant (for reasons I still don't fully understand) it was a little disappointing that he got away with everything. I hate a book that leaves the reader with so much unfinished business.
How hard can it be to kill a real estate agent? Contract killer Lucas Green is about to find out. Small time real estate agent Grant Anderson is scheduled to get his ticket punched. Some things don’t go as planned though and an inquisitive cop can feel something is out of whack. Lucas needs to pull the stops out to make Grant’s demise look like a fluke. Grant needs to get lucky to keep breathing and Tracy Cook, the intrepid cop, needs a result to keep her boss happy.
This is Vegas after all and there’s no knowing which way the cards will fall.
I read this book through NetGalley. My thanks to the author and the publisher for making this book available.
