A successful Web designer, forty-year-old India has a fabulously hip life in Denver and a sexy Irish lover in New York who jets out to see her on bi-weekly visits. The long-distance romance suits India just fine: Though Jack is the only man who has ever made India feel truly alive, she doesn’t want things to get too serious. But then her father passes away, and India must honor the promise she made to him: to look after her mother when he’s gone.

Suddenly India finds herself back in Colorado Springs with the woman who both intrigues and infuriates her. Eldora is sixty something and exquisitely gorgeous, but her larger-than-life personality can suck the air out of a room. True to form, Eldora throws India a curveball, insisting that they hit the road to look for India’s twin, Gypsy, a brilliant artist who lives a vagabond’s existence in the remote mountain towns of New Mexico. It looks like India can’t avoid her mother’s intensity any longer, especially after she discovers stunning secrets from Eldora’s past.

Thirty years ago, Eldora regaled her twin girls with glamorous stories about her days as a Las Vegas showgirl– stories of martinis and music at the Sahara, back when Frank and Sammy ruled the town. But the story of how she really ended up in Sin City, and the unsavory life she’d run from with her daughters in tow, is full of details she’s never seen fit to share–until now.

As mother and daughter sail down Route 66, the very road Eldora drove those many years ago, looking for Gypsy, while passing motels, diners, and souvenir shops, Eldora must relive a lifetime of memories that have tormented her before she can put them to rest once and for all. . . .

Award-winning author Barbara Samuel brings us a heartfelt story of second chances and unexpected detours. As two women come to terms with themselves and each other, the past unravels and the future spreads out before them like the open road.

Really enjoyed this story from start ot finish. Cannot wait to read more from the author.

A road trip yields surprises and secrets in a poignant novel about mothers, daughters, and sisters.

I have read several books by Barbara O’Neal and have loved them, but this one was just okay for me. The book is beautifully written, just as all Barbara O’Neal’s’ books are, I just didn’t get into this one for some reason.

Thank you, Barbara O’Neal, Lake Union Publishing and Net Galley, for the opportunity to read this book.

It was 3.5 Stars for me.

Who doesn’t love a road trip? This book takes the reader on an adventure, mixed with raw emotion and family dynamics!
Everyone has a story and India is learning a lot from her mother Eldora, as they spend hours in the car searching for her sister Gypsy. I enjoyed learning more about Eldora as she reveals her complex story, nothing is missed.
The story slowly brings out the layers and secrets and also the love that is there for each other, hidden for too long. The topic of mental illness is discussed in a sensitive caring way, the characters have great depth, the author has a great writing style.
Living through the main characters is a journey worth taking, they share their experiences and thoughts freely, you’ll feel like you’re in the car with them!

Thank you to Lake Union Publishing, NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to read and review an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own..:

Right from the start the main characters come to life with a mom one can only find as unique in Eldora. As the story emerges with the two sisters one comes to relate to both and one wants to be right there in the car with them. As their adventure begins one can see the past unraveling slowly for these two witty women. I enjoyed the flashbacks as they were woven in so easily. The revelation of how a family deals with schizophrenia was intriguing. I enjoyed O'Neal's novel and look forward to reading more of her work.

I am thankful to NetGalley to have the opportunity to read this ARC. What an interesting story although it wasn't my favorite. Following India's story and watching her learn about her past was certainly interesting, however I don't think I would read this book again.

Thank you to the author and publisher for providing me with a digital ARC of this title via Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

I have really enjoyed a lot of Barbara O'Neal's books so was very pleased to be given the opportunity to read this title now rereleased under her name. I usually find myself quickly lost in her stories and this book was the same. It wasn't my favorite, but I did enjoy the characters and their story. I liked the grown India experiences on a road trip with her mother, learning secrets about her past.

This is a story about family, self discovery and forgiveness. You throw in a road trip to Vegas and it inspires a lot of discussion between mom and daughter. India is a twin to sister Gypsy who has disappeared and is off her medications for shizophrenia. India and her larger that life mom decide to go find her. Along the way Eldora (mom) tells things about her life that India never knew.

This was an enjoyable read and overall lighthearted. Thank you Netgalley for the chance to review this novel.

I LOVED this book and would give it 4.5 stars!! I always enjoy Barbara O'Neal's books. The stories are wonderfully written. I get hooked from the start and get fully invested in the lives of the characters. This book was no exception. I felt like I was right there in the Thunderbird with India and Eldora on their road trip to Vegas (minus the chain smoking from Eldora.) Loved getting to know Eldora and her backstory as she told India everything about her. She finally told India the truth, secrets that she kept hidden for years. Eldora lived a very interesting life. I can understand why India doesn't want to have children. She's afraid. She saw first hand how schizophrenia effected her sister Gypsy. She doesn't want her children to experience the same problems. I wished there would have been a little more about Gypsy, especially at the end. Gypsy is lucky to have Eldora and India in her life. They love her so much and would do anything for her. Jack seemed like the perfect man for India. They just needed to make time to talk with each other and not hide any of their feelings. Don loved and adored Eldora and his children. He would do anything for them. Eldora did not realize what she had until it was gone.

Definitely recommend the book. I loved the characters, story and writing style- so pretty much everything. It was about family, love, loss, forgiveness and so much more. I was sad to see the book end. I loved reading about Eldora and her family. Look forward to reading more books by the author.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Lake Union Publishing through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I've read a handful of books by Barbara O'Neal now, and I've enjoyed every single one. What captivates me most about her writing is the depth of her characters. Each one is intricately crafted, complex, and distinctly different from the next. It's incredibly refreshing! Every story unfolds with unique plots, unexpected twists, rich settings, and diverse relationships. Unlike other authors whose writing voice and style can grow predictable over time, Barbara O'Neal keeps me engaged with her varied narratives. I've also expanded my vocabulary thanks to her books, which adds to my enjoyment. Thank you so much for this ARC - I'm obsessed!

Barbara O'Neal's LADY LUCK'S MAP OF VEGAS is why I read. This amazing story of a very short, poignant, heartbreaking and heartrending road trip taken by a woman and her mother from Colorado Springs to Las Vegas is one I will never forget. Two vivid, fully dimensional characters with fire and imagination, secrets, loves, and loss. A dual timeline back to the 1950s and 1960s when the mother was young, trapped, and relied on wits and beauty to survive and in the current time when mother and daughter are attempting to track down the daughter's schizophrenic twin sister and the mother wants someone to know all of who she is and how she has lived. The settings, the dialogue. the dilemmas and the challenges are totally immersive, making this an ultimate story to sink into and enjoy over and over again. Describing the bare plot does not do justice to O'Neal's finest story to date. An emphatic READ THIS BOOK! I received a copy of this book and these opinions are my own, unbiased thoughts.

Lady Luck's Map of Vegas by Barbara O'Neal captivated me from the very first page and kept me turning pages.
I was quickly hooked by her thoughtful and surreptitious storytelling.
Her stories are always so beautiful.
The characters; they were so perfectly described that I could see each and every one.
And her writing as usual was phenomenal.

Thank You NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!

A quick read that I enjoyed! The plot was fast paced and I particularly savoured the nostalgic descriptions of Las Vegas with the vintage slot machines, American diners and glamorous characters. Eldora reminded me of Jessica Rabbit!

Lady Luck’s Map of Vegas by Barbara O’Neal is a compelling inter-generational road trip story. Eldora, 63, embarks on a Route 66 journey with her twin daughter India to find Gypsy, her schizophrenic twin. Eldora reveals her adventurous past while India harbors her own secret. Despite an imperfect ending, the characters and engaging narrative captivate throughout.

I have read and enjoyed several books by this author, but couldn't get into this one. I enjoy books about family relationships and was looking forward to reading about Eldora and her twin daughters India and Gypsy and a road trip to Vegas. However, I did not want to wade through the story of India and Jack's love life. I would lose interest fast every time I opened the book. I finally gave up trying to read this book. Thanks to Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley. I received a complimentary copy of this ebook. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

What a wonderful book. So glad they have reissued. I have been on this route mentioned in this book so it made it that more special. A special bond between two sisters, a mother trying to forgive herself, and mental illness. India and Gypsy have the twin bond, and their mother Eldora is dealing with her own memories. A very special book, and a very special bond. Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are my own. Lady Luck’s Map Of Vegas- Five wonderful stars.
