Wow this book was just want I needed to get out of my book slump! It was almost a story within a story within a story.
Perla Wultz, her husband Grant and daughter Sophie are a wealthy family living in a gated community in California. They appear to have a practically perfect life. Grant is devoted to his wife and daughter. Perla has curated the perfect house, the perfect wardrobe and the perfect family. An hour away, Leewood Folcrum is serving life in prison for a horrific murder spree at his daughter’s twelfth birthday party. Everyone believes they know what happened that night, decades ago, but Leewood has never told anyone the full story and there are important details that no one knows. The lives of Leewood Folcrum and the Wultz family are about to intersect in the most terrifying way.
I can't wait to recommend this one and read more from this author!
Thank you Thomas & Mercer and A. R. Torre for the gifted copy!
What a wild freaking ride this book was. I absolutely detested Perla but could not stop reading to find out how everything was going to play out. I looooved the alternating POV chapters between Perla and Leewood, I thought each of them was super interesting.

This one knocked my socks off in the best possible way! In my opinion, this book is THE definition of a masterpiece! This book was written with such a great sense of dread as the events unfolded I found myself blown away one of the characters audacity! This character was so chilling I could not look away! Naturally, I loved every minute of it! This one will likely easily be a top thriller of the year for me and I will be immediately checking out her backlist! Short chapters and lots of twists make this book hard to put down. I absolutely loved the story and couldn’t figure out what was going to happen next. The multiple pov helps keep the story interesting.
Perla is a wealthy mother who seems somewhat obsessed with a man who murdered two girls,
23 years ago. At first I had no idea how the three MCs would all mesh together and wanted to keep reading to dive into their lives.

I have read a lot of thrillers over the past 7 years since I got back into reading. I have read about some pretty disturbing characters with sick, twisted minds and natures. Just when you think you've reached that brink, and nothing could top it, along comes Perla in the Last Party. She is a rich housewife in a gated California community, living with her husband, Grant and 12 year old daughter Sophie. Sophie is very mature for her age, and was fun to follow. I could not put this book down. I devoured it quickly and couldn't get enough. This book left me with a major book hangover. Its one of those books that is so good that you know when you go on to your next read, you have to pick something close to par or you just aren't going to enjoy it because it won't measure up. I enjoyed the way this book was written with alternating chapters that included little snippets of quotes from people that knew our main characters, Sophie, Grant, Perla and Leewood Wurtz. There are so many twists that you will be thrown sideways several times. If you love dark, psychological thrillers, don't miss this one! 5 stars!
Add this to your neverending TBR lists, ok?
This is the very definition of a psychological thriller. If you loved the darkness of Verity, this one is BETTER. I don't want to say anything that could spoil this book, but A.R. Torre has perfected her craft. If you go in blind, the amount of twists and jaw-dropping moments will blow you away. The way everything flawlessly tied together in the end was perfect. This book will live rent free in my head for the foreseeable future.
An absolute page turner. This one grabbed from the first pages. Who would pretend to be somebody they are NOT in an emergency situation? Apparently, Perla Wultz would!!! Her husband Grant and daughter Sophie are aware of Perla’s ways….
Everyone thinks this family has the perfect life, but Perla has an obsession and a secret.
The other parts of this book explore Leewood Folcrum life sentence. He confessed to murdering two young girls. But did he do it? What really happened to these girls and how are does this story connect.
Our team Thriller Book Lovers-The Pulse really loved this one! Out August 20, 2024.
Summary: Perla Wultz, her husband Grant and daughter Sophie are a wealthy family living in a gated community in California. They appear to have a practically perfect life. The lives of Leewood Folcrum and the Wultz family are about to intersect in the most terrifying way.
Thoughts: This novel took my emotions, and my heart rate, on a rollercoaster ride! A. R. Torre has a talent for creating complex characters that aren’t especially likeable yet are very intriguing. The reader needs to know what happens to them. The story of the Wultz family is told in short, snappy chapters from multiple POV. At the beginning of each chapter there is a snippet of a quote from a person (neighbor, relative, reporter, etc.) giving a perspective on either the family or Leewood Folcrum. This is a very effective technique, and gives the reader a better picture of how others viewed them. The tension rachets up quickly as the novel progresses and I could not put it down for the last 100 pages!
If you are a fan of fast-paced domestic thrillers, then I definitely recommend that you try this author. This is my second novel from her and she is becoming one of my go-to thriller authors. Many thanks to the author and to Thomas & Mercer for the copy to read.
My favorite book by A.R. Torre!
I love all her books that I've read so far, but The Last Party was just brilliant.
It is full of twists and dark lies that will have you invested. I ate this book up and highly recommend you go read it. You will not be disappointed.
I loved how it had multiple POVs, short chapters, and so much juicy drama!
What a wild ride.
Affluent housewife Perla is obsessed with the Folcrom Party murders, a birthday party massacre that occurred a few decades prior. She has a wild obsession with the convicted killer. And she has a plan.
This was crazy all the way through. I haven’t completely torn through a thriller the way I did this one in a long time. I was hooked reading Perla’s narration and learning about her psyche. Lee was just as interesting to hear from and I didn’t see a lot of things coming.
The ending was slightly anticlimactic for me, but still really satisfying.
The book is pretty gruesome but had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. 4.5 stars from me, highly recommend.
Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I was sooo excited to see an A. R. Torre book on NetGalley so I obviously had to snatch it up immediately, and boy did it deliver!!
What we know:
One man sits in prison for the last 2 decades for going on a murder spree during his daughter’s 12th birthday sleepover. He claims innocence and yet there were no signs of an intruder and all evidence points to him.
One woman sits pretty in her lavish home of the rich an elite, with her doting “can do no wrong husband” and her “mature for her years” intelligent teenage daughter. Under the surface she has a secret obsession with the aforementioned murderer.
Someone’s telling lies but their motives are unclear! This one had me gripped to the pages I couldn’t believe what I was reading, I was completely raptured into the plot waiting to see the fallout when it all blew to pieces.
Fast paced, addictive, interesting, and that ending! highly recommend!
Thank you to A. R. Torre, Thomas and Mercer and NetGalley for the EARC!

Damn this book was good. In the beginning I was like I don’t know about this , it seemed like it was going in a weird direction but my gosh I’m so glad I stuck through it because it was not at all what I thought it was going to be about. The twists were perfect , I had suspected something would tie in with the past timeline but it was a good reveal. Love the ending too, the last chapter of Sophie’s POV. Highly recommended! Thank you NetGalley for this ARC
This could be an episode of who TF did I marry :D
I skipped sleep to finish this psychological thriller cause it was just impossible to put it down and I have NO regrets.
I loved, loved, loved this book, it had everything and I mean EVERYTHING I love in a thriller and Perla, dear Perla, I had a blast being in your twisted mind so thank you for the wild ride xoxo.
This book gave me “gone girl” vibes in the best way possible, l just couldn’t help but imagine that, in some alternate reality, Perla and Amy could be related and will most definitely end up plotting each other’s demise.
If you love thrillers, this one is for YOU!
Another crazy, twisted, psychological thriller from this Author!
This book was definitely very DARK and went into the mind of a narcissistic sociopath. It made the book extremely hard to put down. This character might be one of the most sinister evil characters I’ve encountered in a long time!
We start out by hearing about the brutal murder of young girls at a child’s birthday party and the killer , Leewood Folcrom, who is serving a life sentence.
We are following the family of Perla (Mom, wife), Grant (Husband, Father), and their daughter Sophie. They seem to have the modern day family that has it all and we all think lives the perfect life, but come on … is that ever really the case ?? The secrets start popping up, the dark connections come into the light, and when the truth becomes apparent it leaves you shocked and satisfied all at the same time. I will say I guessed some of the twists, but it didn’t stop me from reading on.
This author has done it again and I will continue to read everything she puts out!
Thank you to the Author, Netgalley, and Thomas & Mercer for the ARC !
Wow! This is a wild ride! I don’t want to give a lot away, but right off the bat you know you are dealing with a psychopath. I really like the back and forth narrative, and you think you know what’s going on, but then you realize you really don’t. The story unfolds at a great pace, and it’s a great quick read. I’ve read the author’s other books and look forward to more.
The Last Party was more of a domestic thriller than a twisty thriller. It tells the story from multiple perspectives about an affluent family and a murderer who has been behind bars for 23 years. The book surprises you many times while reading and keeps you reading chapter after chapter.

I absolutely loved this book. It’s twisted and depraved. I thought I knew what was going to happen, and I was mind blown with the twists and turns 🤯 if I didn’t have kids or responsibilities, I would have read this in one sitting. This is one of my favorite reads of this year so far. Couldn’t recommend more 🙌🏻
