Im not even sure where to start with this book. I will say, I was 15% in and decided this was a book (without even finishing it!) that I HAD to have on my bookshelf! I preordered a copy, and am happy to report back post-finishing the book, I am so glad I did.

Katherine Center always writes the most swoon worthy, clean romances. Is there misunderstandings? Sure. Do they characters say super cheesy lines? OF COURSE! Can I not wait to have my hands on a physical copy so I can go back and highlight all of those cheesy lines?! YES!

Bonus points for the extra chapter in the audio book. The secondary POV was everything.

Ohh the Rom-Commers, this was such a cute romance read! I found myself cheering for both main characters throughout the book. The chemistry that they had was undeniable, and translated well through the authors writing. I laughed out loud at parts of the book as well! It was a well rounded book that kept me wanting to listen to find out what would happen. I really enjoyed the narrator as well! I absolutely loved this story! I appreciated the strong female character of Emma and resonated with her efforts to maintain control and prevent bad things from happening. I was surprised by Charlie's character in his efforts to push Emma away, but the subsequent chapters beautifully and tragically revealed why he had done so. I was on the edge of my seat hearing Emma trying to make it to the airport and cried along with her when it was thought that Charlie had lung cancer. I think this story was a beautiful testament to love and the devotion that people can have towards one another.

I am a big fan of Katherine Center, and I have to say The Rom-Commers is her best book yet! Seriously I would give it 6/5 if I could. The characters are so relatable, despite their "glamorous" Hollywood life (I tend to not like books with the 'famous person' trope). It is raw and flawless BECAUSE of the characters' flaws. I have already recommended The Rom-Commers to several people and plan on many re-reads.

The narrator of the audiobook was perfect.

Look. I loved this Hollywood romance (tangentially related to The Bodyguard which I recommend to absolutely everyone.) The only reason I didn’t rate it a full five stars is that Emma is a touch too much of a martyr for me. Like, I get it to an extent, but also, wow.

Okurrr. That being said, I love love love the relationship that evolves between Charlie and Emma. They start out with Emma being disappointed in Charlie as a human being. She has hero worshipped him for years as her favorite screenwriter/idol. Unfortunately, he’s also kind of a dick and needs help growing into his humanity. Fortunately, he has a martyr to help him.

The aforementioned Charlie is a big time Hollywood screenwriter and he has written an absolute abomination of a romantic comedy. Enter Emma, a romantic comedy aficionado and screenwriter who hasn’t been able to live up to her career potential due to some truly horrible circumstances. Their mutual manager does some shady shit to get them to work together. Somehow he remains employed.

Seriously, their relationship is the definition of slow burn filled with hard choices and mutual yearning. There are exactly zero spicy scenes in this, but chock full of longing and hope.

Also, I have to talk about the narration. I’m not sure I’ve listened to @pattimurin before, but I flipped. She is so good!!! I need more of her voice in my life and I’m about to go find some more books.

This was my first ever rom com read and it was...alright.

This book was well-written, funny, witty and, for the most part, quite entertaining.

BUT...

Did it make me want to read more rom coms? The answer is No but I strongly believe that if you’re into this genre then you'll enjoy this one way more than I did.

Loved it so much! it was fun, entertaining , witty, tragic , tear jerking , I could go on and on . I hope this does go to a real screenplay cause what I saw in my mind would be epic on the big screen!! Loved the narrator, she was great

WOW!! I LOVED THIS SO MUCH!
Center did an amazing job at taking all the best things of a r0m-com movie and putting them in this book. Seeing Emma perfectly dissect what makes a romantic comedy so great, only to later on deal with some of her do's and don'ts firsthand was a fun read. I found both Emma and Charlie to be very endearing and interesting characters, and enjoyed their banter with each other. Sometimes in a romance novel, the chemistry almost gets skipped over and jumps straight into intense infatuation or flowery declarations of love, but the relationship between these two was really enjoyable to see progress. Both Emma and Charlie had interesting backstories that had me routing for them both. Now that I know some characters appear in a previous book set in the same universe, I'm off to hoopla to borrow that book!
The narrator for this was a great fit and gave all of the characters very distinct personalities, and the author's message at the end of the book was so sweet. Thank you so much to MacMillan and NetGalley for giving me an early copy of the audiobook in exchange for a fair review, because this has been my favorite romance novel I've read this year by a long-shot.

I really enjoyed this book. It wasn’t as trauma heavy as some Katherine Center books, and I really appreciated that. It felt like an ode early rom-coms. The grumpy hero who comes off as mean but isn’t really, and the happy heroine who has some struggles to overcome. It’s an ode to what many people love about romance reads. It’s meant to be predictable and give us the happy ending that we want.

I enjoyed the set up, and while I thought there were some ridiculous scenes, it worked for me. Is it even a rom-com if it doesn’t have some ridiculousness? I think what I liked most is that this is unabashedly a romance. It doesn’t claim to be more. It’s lighthearted with low level angst.

There’s a twist toward the end that brings a bit of drama. Because of the nature of the book, I just went with it. It was exactly what I expect when I read a Katherine Center book.

I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed it. I thought the narrator did a great job with the different voices, and it was easy to tell the characters apart.

This book contains strong profanity, and has kissing.

I can always count on a good story from Katherine Center. I loved the premise of the book, the infused humor, and the characters. There are some twists and I found Emma’s friend and Charlie Yates agent to be an interesting man.

I like how Emma gets to blossom, Charlie grows and learns, and Emma’s father has such a positive attitude despite the tragic accident he and his wife had.

The sisters grow closer. Second best book I have read this year. Actually, I listened. I was given an audio copy by Netgalley. Thank-you to the writer, publisher and narrator. Wonderful job.

absolutely LOVED this book so much. I've read Hello Stranger by Katherine Center and adored it, but this is now my favorite book of hers! It is the "I won't fall in-love with this guy because he is a di** and he is also my boss" trope and I was HERE FOR IT! So funny, so cute, just everything I look for in a funny romance. Cannot recommend this book enough, please read it this summer, you won't regret it and it will put you in the best mood!!

Katherine Center is the queen of romance. My favorite part about all of her books is she unabashedly defends this INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT genre! Each book of hers reminds us of the importance of love, connection, and HOPE! I simply can not get enough of her books, The Rom-Commers included!

This book has me obsessed. I loved it so much! By far my favorite Katherine Center book I’ve ever read.

It is the perfect balance of hilarious and deeply emotional. The characters had so many real-life things that tried to break them and I loved watching how they got to the end.

Katherine Center in this book is a model to all authors and publishers on how a book can be phenomenal without needing to add a single explicit scene - and it’s so good, by the end you don’t even realize it wasn’t there. Katherine followed the characters wherever they led her and didn’t fall prey to the need to add spice for the sake of spice. BRAVO. 👏🏻

I also had so many FEELS for the way she called out anyone who doesn’t believe in love or the romance genre. ❤️‍🔥 It is so well written. (Especially after that authors note at the end of Hello Stranger. I see you Katherine. 💯👏🏻🔥)

I read this via audiobook and enjoyed it! It had no issues that stood out.

Charlie and Emma are such fantastic characters in this well-written real-life romcom.

Charlie is a big-time screenwriter and when Emma gets her break to help him with a romcom, her dreams come true…or so she thinks…but not really… The banter and wit of this enemies-to-love float this plot along in a sea of fluff and sparks. I loved watching this duo work together like a match striking against sandpaper. All the feels for this one, especially as Emma managed to take the highroad time and time again.

Katherine Center successfully muddles through difficult topics like loss, grief, navigating broken relationships, and illness, and the lightness of a romcom is maintained. I loved the vibe and feel of this story, with the forced proximity and character growth. The narrators were fabulous and the author’s note at the end was the chef’s kiss to a sweet romance.

This is a love story [book] about a woman who is writing a love story [screenplay]. I knew better. It's a pet peeve of mine when the character/narrator is oblivious to the meta-world they've been created in, so I had a hard time getting into this one. The male character, a wealthy successful writer, stayed a little angsty for a little too long and left some unfinished business for me (why did you say such horrible things to your ex wife about this new writer when you didn't know she was eavesdropping?). The excuse of "I pushed you away for your own good!" also never sits well with me, especially when the female lead is presented so strong and independent. The epilogue worked overtime to tie up a lot of loose ends but it turned out those were the parts I wanted more details about. I did enjoy some references to other Katherine Center books (The Bodyguard) and maybe these characters will appear in the future. Smooth writing and a story that was easy to follow kept me listening to this audiobook. I appreciate the copy I was given by NetGalley and look forward to more from this author.

Cue glorious rivalry and bad first impression banter, that quickly evolves into a far deeper relationship.

Katherine Center won my heart with The BodyGuard and Hello Stranger and The Rom-Commers was just as delightful a read. It is funny, sexy, emotional and sweet. Reading this was a wonderful way to spend a weekend!

Emma (whom I completely picture as Debra Messing) has dreamed of becoming a screenwriter and one of her all time favorite screenwriters is Charlie, she ends up getting the opportunity to work with him on a romantic comedy a subject he knows nothing about, what could possibly go wrong!
Patti Murin did great as the narrator, I was completely immersed into the story. Her voice was clear and distinctive between characters. At times the book did seem to drag but I think that was more on how descriptive the author was with the story. Overall this is a cute and witty, you guessed it, Rom-Com!

4.5 Stars! This is another great book by Katherine Center. I liked Emma and Charlie's characters. They are both struggling with their own issues, but they work as they write a novel together. I enjoyed the LA setting and the humor in this book as well. I liked the importance of family is emphasized and it's an enjoyable read overall! I listened to the audiobook and it is fantastic! Thank you Macmillan audio for an early copy of this great book!

Thanks to Netgalley for this arc, I got lucky. This book means SO much to me, truly. I read it at the perfect time in my life, wow. The idea of this book is so unique and fun, and the execution is 100x better. I became obsessed with this book from page one, i loved the writing style, its so casual yet quirky in its own way. I haven’t read a romcom that lived up to its name in a while. This book put the ‘COM’ in rom-com. I mean, i genuinely laughed out loud, multiple times!!!! This book had me smiling, and lit up my heart. This book balanced heavy topics like grief and trauma with the topics of romance and pure joy in such a good way. The romance in this book healed a part of me. The character developement of both Emma and Charlie? Amazing. And the developement of their relationship was even better. I mean this man started as an asshole, but was he…? 🤭. The jealousy in this book was REALLLLL!!!! And its not in the unrealistic “ill kill a man if he looks at u” way, its the realistic and heartwarming “ill tie your shoes for you because ill die before i see another man flirt with you again” type of way. It sounds weird when i say it like that, but i understand myself. And it wasn’t just him who was jealous, it was her too, ughhhh so cuteeeeeee. They make me smile so damn hard, i love them, like FULL ON uncontrollable smiling. They’re such a perfect couple, u didnt even mind the miscommunications that happened through out. This book had me kicking my legs, but also rethinking my whole life. I was gonna throw up, cause why is Emma so relatable, she is me, i am her. The themes about mental health and healing in this book hit close to home. This book made me crave that type of raw and unconditional love. And i took some advice from this book, i mean who does that, actually learn from a book? LOSER!!!! [Me, i did that]. “All we have is what we have.” Damn. This book is therapy for me, i turned into a philosopher. No one will understand how much i love this book; this is my book only, im taking it off the market. I loved this book. Its one of the best books ive read this year, i havent felt pure glee over a book in so long. This is THEE rom com of rom coms.
