I am the biggest fan of Katherine Center. I always fall in love with her books. I was elated when I got this advanced copy. After listening AND reading it I can honestly say it’s my favorite of 2024 so far. I love this book. I love everything about this book. I loved the witty banner, Emma and Charlie, the twists and turns, the details, and the insane ending . This plot is amazing, this book is amazing, the writing is amazing. She look all the cliches of a rom-com and un-cliched them. It’s funny and witty and enchanting. This book truly makes you believe in love again. I got butterflies on every chapter and that’s how I know it’s a great book. I loved it and so will you, go read this book!!
It’s a yes. This book is another winner for this author. I enjoyed the mature romance along with the vulnerability of both fmc and mmc. I didn’t always enjoy fmc point of views. The best part was the ending and how Mmc showed his love.
Thank you NetGalley and Katherine Center for this eARC. It was amazing as always!

"The Rom-Commer" is a funny, cute, and typical romantic comedy that also explores some deep topics. This charming story follows the adventures of lovable amateur screenwriter Emma Wheeler as she goes on a journey to rewrite a script with her celebrity idol Charlie Yates. While it follows the traditional rom-com formula (it’s a must), it also delves into themes of self-discovery and the complexities of relationships, adding depth to the story.
Review: "The Rom-Commer" is a delightful rom-com that combines humor, romance, and deeper themes. The witty dialogue and charming moments had me laughing throughout the book. The characters are relatable and well-developed, making it easy to root for their happily-ever-after. What sets this book apart is its ability to explore deeper topics while still maintaining the light-hearted and entertaining nature of a rom-com. It's a perfect read for anyone in need of a funny and heartwarming escape.
Thank you to St. Martin Press for the opportunity to review this book through NetGalley
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this arc!!
Oh my gosh, this SLAPPED. I am a huge fan of Katherine Center, so I was desperate to get my hands on this book. Emma and Charlie are sweet and this was fun (with a hint of real life drama and struggles that I always appreciate in Center's books). There were times when I wasn't Charlie's biggest fan, but I think he made up for it by the end. And Emma was such a fun character to follow! I would for sure recommend this book!
4.5 stars
I truly enjoyed this audiobook. Emma is a lovable character and Charlie is the guy that you love to hate. I loved the narrator! I was invested and did not want to put the book down. I saw the first plot twist coming and prepared myself for a no so happy ending. I was a little unhappy with the second plot twist.
This book made me watch "It Happened One Night" for the first time. Never seen this before but I'm so happy I did. I found Emma to be a so understandable thought a bit hard on herself and Charle was the perfect opponent to the 'anti-romance' lover. Their banter was perfect. I could tell we would have a satisfying happily ever after ending. I think the only thing I noticed was that the slow sections were a bit frequent for the book's first half. The second half had a better pace for this story. I even teared up near the end. This was my first Katherine Center book and I am looking forward to reading her backlist soon.
Emma gets the chance of a lifetime, the opportunity to rewrite a script with her idol, Charlie Yates. The only problem? The script is a romcom and Charlie is Mr. Aniti-Love.
This is my first Katherine Center book and I'm fully a fan girl now! Here's what I loved:
Emma. She is so quirky and honest in how she approaches everything. She was a great counterpoint to grumpy Charlie. I found myself rooting for her the whole time, even when I disagreed with her actions. She really is like a romcom lead--lovable in every way.
Charlie. He's grumpy. He's hot. He's a big softy under it all. I loved the interactions between him and Emma, watching them navigate the world together.
The effective plot. This book read like a true movie romcom and I was here for it. I loved the subtleties in Emma and Charlie's relationship, watching them come together and really find love beyond all of their personal baggage that was pulling them apart.
The narration. The audio on this one was great. The narrator had a perfect voice for both Emma and Charlie, bringing them both to life.
All in all, this was a really good romcom!
Thank you to the author and publisher for the gifted copy!
Katherine has done it again remind me why I will read anything she writes! I really enjoyed the audio which I’m usually picky about but I enjoyed it!! Will definitely be recommending to friends and family!
I've always been a huge fan of Katherine Center, and I've read about 80% of everything she's written. Her books are usually big hits for me, but I have to say this one was just "okay". I believe the main thing that turned me off to this book is the dialogue repetition. There was a ton of repeat questioning between the characters, which drove me bonkers. Also, the hero, Charlie, grated on my nerves a bit in the beginning. I enjoyed the second half of the book much more than the first half, and Charlie finally redeemed himself toward the end of the story. The narrator was good and very entertaining, but listening to the repeat dialogue almost made me DNF this audiobook. I actually read the last few chapters of the eBook, and it wasn't nearly as annoying. Unless you're just a HUGE fan of audiobooks, I would recommend reading the print or eBook version instead.
I love the book, love the audiobook, and the narration was excellent. A narrator can make or break a book, and this one just made me love it even more than the book itself. Wonderful!
I LOVED The Bodyguard but was very disappointed with Hello Stranger so I was skeptical going into this one, thinking it a 50-50 chance. SO glad I gave it that chance because I loved it! I think this is going to be a new favorite from this author for a lot of readers. The characters and their relationship gave me all the feels (from laughing to crying to everything in between), they are to die for. The irony in the plot, with them being rom-com writers, was such an enjoyable theme. It made the backdrop for everything that was happening just that much more fun. There’s depth and struggles and warmth. I love this author’s writing and this one has solidified her as an auto-buy for me. Highly recommend! For anyone on the fence after last year’s release, I urge you to give this one a chance (just like Emma and Charlie do with themselves and each other). I think you’ll be glad you did.
While there were quite a few times that this book made me laugh out loud, I didn't really feel the chemistry between the main characters, and that didn't work for me. I really enjoyed when Emma talked about hte more serious things in her life, such as her family's tragic past, or her love for her sister. And she and Charlie shared some great dialogue, both light-hearted and more serious. What held me back from really enjoying this is that it didn't seem like a healthy relationship, and I didn't want to see Emma get hurt.
Thanks to Netgalley for an advanced reader's copy in return for my honest review.

I really wanted to love this book, as I loved Hello Stranger and The Bodyguard and I LOVE rom-coms. However... this one was a bit of a letdown for me. Emma and Charlie Yates (because they say his full name about 120 times throughout the whole book) were both characters who didn't fully grab my heart, and therefore I didn't end up caring about their love story.
Charlie is kind of an a**hole throughout the entire book with a few moments here and there to try to lure you back into liking him (which didn't ultimately work). Emma was fine... until she wasn't. IS NO ONE GOING TO TALK ABOUT HOW SHE NEVER APOLOGIZED TO HER SISTER?? Spoilers (but I'll leave it vague) but Emma and her sister fight over the phone towards the end and they both say something meant to wound the other. However, the sister does it in retaliation to Emma saying something EXTREMELY hurtful, and yet Sylvie is the one who has to apologize to Emma at the end. No apology from Emma, which is RIDICULOUS BECAUSE SYLVIE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG. That was what really solidified the entire thing for me and almost brought my rating down even further.
I was more invested in Sylvie's relationships than I was with Emma or Charlie, and for that reason alone is why I don't think this is that good of a romance novel. There were so many good tropes put in this that are supposed to make you feel like there is romance there, but that's all there is are tropes and no actual chemistry.
One final thing that irked me, and maybe I just noticed this more because I was listening to the audiobook, but I hated Emma's way of "stream of consciousness" talking. So many moments were written as "And he looked at me like 'did you really just do that?'. And I looked back at him like 'yep, I sure did.'. IRRITATING TO THE NTH DEGREE!!
This wasn't a bad book by any means, but I just had so many annoyances throughout my reading experience that it left me wanting a lot more compare to Katherine Center's other novels. You may like this one... but you also might not.
Thanks to NetGalley for the audio ARC for my review. The narrator did an amazing job, the story was cute and fluffy while at the same time attacking not so cute and fluffy topics.
Fascinated by the narrative's depth, I found myself drawn into a world where imperfections became the very essence of life's beauty. From the outset, I felt a deep connection to the characters, immersed in their journey of struggles and triumphs.
The companionship I felt with the main characters was truly profound. Together, we shared moments of laughter, tears, and heartfelt emotion, forging a bond that transcended the pages of the book. Their challenges resonated deeply with me, evoking a myriad of emotions from empathy to joy.
What struck me most was the author's ability to evoke such a diverse array of feelings. With each turn of the page, new layers of complexity were unveiled, offering insights into the richness of the human experience.
The narrative held me fascinated until the very end, with each chapter delivering fresh revelations and insights. It was a testament to the transformative power of storytelling to illuminate the human condition.
In the end, this experience left an indelible mark on my soul. It served as a poignant reminder that life's beauty often lies in its imperfections, and that true resilience is found in embracing the challenges we face. The impact of this extraordinary journey will linger in my heart for years to come, regardless of its title.
Katherine Center is another author whose books never miss for me. The Rom-Commers is a win for sure and I loved this book. I liked the humor and the banter between Emma and Charlie and it really balanced out the at times heaviness that Center incorporated into the story. I loved that writers were the sole focus and it took place kind of in the behind the scenes aspect of Hollywood. Both characters felt so real and vulnerable which I enjoyed and I think Center handled their different traumas with such a high level of care. The fact that love was the main focus of the book made me love it even more. I couldn't put it down and felt Emma's declations about romcoms in my own soul. All of her books manage to both get me to laugh and cry and this was no exception. The concept was brilliant and the execution was a delight. I also loved the quick cameos from The Bodyguard. Overall, this was a fantastic one! Thank you to St. Martin's Press, Netgalley and Macmillan audio for providing me with an e-ARC/ ALC to read and review!
Good heart warming story. I really enjoyed the characters, I just wish there was better communication.
WOW! I absolutely adored this book! It has delightful characters, real life problems, amazing dialogue, and the most perfect happy ending. The narration for the audio book was also great. You'll find yourself riding the emotional ups and downs with all of the characters, and rooting for all of them to get their happy ever afters. This truly was such a win for me! 5 star read for sure!
