I was really looking forward to this book since I loved her last one, but ultimately I struggled to stay engaged. I couldn't connect with the characters and it just didn't hold my attention. My co-worker, however, loved it. So maybe I will try it again in a few months.

I was excited to read this after the author’s last book Bad Summer People. This one is in the same vein starting with a death and has multiple characters where everyone is a suspect. The characters are terrible people for the most part and ones you’ll love to hate. I never became quite as invested in this story as I did her previous book. Maybe because there were so many characters that I was trying to follow on audio— it is possible but took a few chapters to get them down. While I’d probably recommend the physical book for this reason, the narrator did a good job of giving different voices to different characters. January LaVoy narrated and is always fantastic!

Overall, it was an okay read and a great one to read in the summer or vacation setting. Thanks Macmillan Audio for a listening copy!

I gave up after about 30%. Just privileged white people being terrible to one another. I did not like the way the only WOC was written, and I especially didn't like the stereotypical voice the narrator used for her. It may have gotten better as the book progressed but I didn't care to find out.

I was excited about Emma Rosenblum's sophomore book but could not get into it like I did her first book, BAD SUMMER PEOPLE. Both novels are narrated by January LaVoy, who I love as a narrator, but VERY BAD COMPANY fell flat in the storyline. I couldn't connect, and it felt like a repeat of what we hear in all "bad company" storylines about men and women in high places. The only reason I even lasted listening as long as I did was LaVoy's narration. I'll be willing to read what Rosenblum writes next since I enjoyed the first book.

Bad people do bad things and con other bad people and in the end, justice isn't served. I was longing for a payoff that didn't come.

There is something a bit dark and disturbing about this story that made it completely addictive. A murder mystery, messed up chatacters and lots of fun. I enjoyed every minute of this audio.

Thank you Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for this complimentary audiobook.

Unfortunately, this book was just not for me. A bunch of employees sleeping around and talking about money pretty much sums it up for me. There were times throughout this book that I sped it up hoping it would get better but I just didn’t enjoy what the book was about. I can see how other people would enjoy this.

Reading about a big corporate startup is something that is so interesting to me as somebody who is about as far away from that world as you can be. I found this book to be full of characters who were essentially awful people doing bad things, but I did have fun with it. I know, it's an conundrum. I enjoyed the multiple points of view, and the narrator did such a good job of giving them just enough of a different sound that they were easy to keep straight. I loved the element of mystery with the death of one of the executive team, but it was wild that the characters didn't seem terribly affected by it. I mean, I knew these businesses were cut throat but dang! Not one tear was shed. No matter, I found this book to be an extremely quick listen, as I was dying to know how the mystery was solved and all the drama and gossip came about with the characters. This likely isn't a book that I'll remember forever, but it was one that gave me an enjoyable afternoon listening to. 3.5/5 stars.

Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an advanced listening copy of this book. All opinions within this review are my own.

This one took me 4 tries to finally get into.

I am always up for toxic workplace drama (in books, not irl LOL) and I really enjoyed the author's 2023 release 'Bad Summer People' so I was super excited to start this one! I don't know if it was the hype that made it hard to get into, or the multiple POVs, but something about the beginning was just not drawing me in. Once i finally got int0 it though the pacing wasn't bad. I felt the characters quickly show their separate qualities so it makes it a little easier to differentiate between the POVs.

I was a little let down by the ending for some reason, it just seemed a little boring. Not often do I enjoy the middle of the book the best, but this was one of those times!

Overall, it wasn't bad but I wouldn't recommend it as your first read of Emma Rosenblum's work.

Thank you to Flatiron Books and Macmillan Audio for the copies to review!

I really enjoyed this one, it has all of the elements I love - bingeable, awful people, murder, corporate drama that is so extra, and it all takes place at a corporate retreat. I devoured this in an afternoon, and really enjoyed all of these awful people and watching them self-destruct. The audio was excellent and overall I definitely recommend this one, it is a perfect beach read for this summer!

Thanks to Macmillan Audio, NetGalley, and Flatiron for my gifted copies in exchange for my honest opinion.
Very Bad Company refers to both who the main characters spend their time with AND the tech company itself which employs them. Written from multiple POV, Very Bad Company centers around a retreat that the executive team is on in Miami where nothing is going to plan, including one member ending up dead. The CEO has an unhealthy obsession with Winston Churchill. If you like stories about rich people behaving badly and workplace crime mysteries, this is for you! I sped through this one because I wanted to figure out who was the main orchestrator of the chaos. The ending was a bit anticlimactic. January LaVoy does a great job with the narration, leading me to mostly listen to the audiobook while following along in the physical ARC.

I really enjoyed this book! It followed start up company on a retreat where nothing goes as expected. Never knew what was going to happen or who was behind anything. Would definitely recommend for a beach read.

I don’t know why, but I really enjoy a book about messed up wealthy people, and this book did not disappoint. This book is told from multiple points of view, so you get to see inside a lot of messed up people’s heads. It definitely read like a juicy soap opera. Highly enjoyable!

Overall, just OK. This is my second Rosenblum novel and I think I’m realizing that her characters are just not for me.

Thanks to NetGalley, Flatiron and Macmillan Audio for the ALC!

I love a good drama about rich people behaving badly. This story surrounds the CEO and his staff on a work getaway..where someone ends up dead. I enjoyed this one. The only issue was there were a few too many characters at times and the ending was kind of anticlimactic.

As far as the audiobook, I thought the narrator was fantastic. It was easy to determine which characters were which and that helps!

This novel brings the reader deep into the culture of a very toxic company. The executives of Aurora, a tech start-up, are on their exclusive retreat. While on the retreat an employee goes missing and the backstabbing culture of the company starts to surface. We hear the backstories (and the lies) of each of the seriously flawed characters and their lack of moral ethics. These are characters that are intentionally unlikeable.

Unfortunately for me, I was also not able to relate or feel anything towards these characters and the story felt like an uninteresting soap opera-like drama. I was lucky to receive a gifted copy of the audiobook and I found the narration to be good, especially with the ,multiple characters and their POVs. Thank you to Macmillan Audio for this complimentary copy.

I love January LaVoy's narration and this book was no exception, she managed a huge cast of characters with multiple POVs so well and I did not get confused. This book is for people who like a book that has rich and entitled people behaving badly. A tech corporate retreat with a looming takeover goes south quickly and everyone has a motive and hidden motivations abound. This was juicy, gossipy fun without the "cringe" factor since none of these people are real and no actual people are hurt in the process. I loved my listening so much.

This was FAR from a win for me. I had been wanting to read her debut book, Bad Summer People, for a while, but after this I might just not.

3.5 Stars rounded up
VERY BAD COMPANY by Emma Rosenblum is full of executives behaving badly. Listening, it took a few chapters to get the characters straight, but once I did, I was entertained at the shocking antics of the executives on their yearly “retreat” in Miami. It’s not your typical corporate retreat, the CEO of Aurora, a successful tech start-up, has no qualms at spending whatever it takes for an over-the-top event to show how successful the company is. When an executive turns up missing at a critical time, the behavior gets more outrageous.
I enjoyed January LaVoy’s narration, it ultimately helped keep each character straight. I can say, the Winston Churchill quotes and admiration were a little over the top.
This book is perfect for anyone who enjoys rich people behaving badly, especially those working at tech start ups!
Thank you to Flatiron Publishing and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to read and listen to an advanced copy of the novel. All opinions are my own and freely given.
