Such a fun read! Highly recommend.
Many thanks to Netgalley, the author, and the publisher for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
I received a DIGITAL Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book was fine. I've seen what the other people have said in their reviews on this book and have to agree with it. If you're looking for a true enemies to lovers book then look elsewhere because there are others books where that trope is portrayed better. This did seemed more like mild annoyance to we kind of like each other to nope now it's love. The progression was better portrayed in Andrew's point of view than Valerie's.
Also my other issue was the first time they got together seemed like there was absolutely no tension or reason for them to have hooked up. It just kind of felt very random for these two completely sober people who kind of dislike each other to sleep together.
But overall it wasn't a bad book just not one of my favorites. If it's one that sounds interesting to you then still give it a chance.
So, I am not usually a fan of the whole "one night stand made a baby" trope, but I am a fan of romances that involve teachers (because I used to be one), so I decided to give this one a shot. It was reminiscent of Ready or Not by Cara Bastone, and I'm glad that I didn't write this one off. There were parts that made me chuckle and other parts that made me go, "Awww" and I thought this book had the perfect amount of steam, spice, and everything nice. Thank you to the publisher for giving me the chance to read an early digital copy of this book.
The thing about this book is that I can actually see this happening.
2 kindergarten teachers have a short lived fling that results in a accidentally pregnancy which turns out to be funny and sexy, all in one.
Some of the tropes include: enemies to lovers, grumpy/sunshine, and an accidental pregnancy.
I did like Valerie and Andrew's relationship in this book. Unfortunately, there wasn't much depth to the book. I wished Valerie and Andrew's relationship had more nuance. It seemed as though things either went from zero to one hundred or moved at a snail's pace until something unexpected happened between them. It was never centered. Furthermore, we don't even get to see these things play out all that much because some concepts weren't realized until some of the last pages. The conclusion did seem hurried or incomplete. I wish I had known more about their relationship dynamics and how they affected each other emotionally.
Love Lessons is a spicy enemies-to lovers rom-com about rival kindergarten teachers. During the end of the school year party, their shared tension morphs into a night of wild sex. 🤭 What neither expects is the surprise consequence of the night. A BABY!
If you are into enemies to lovers, grumpy/sunshine, and an accidental pregnancy trope, then this book is for you.
It’s funny, sexy, and the perfect read for back to school season. Don’t let this cover fool you, this book is not for children. 🤭
It took me a little while to get into this story, but I eventually did. I sure love a good enemies to lovers/"frenemies" plot! The issue with this story, starting out, was that the characters felt very childish, not adult like at all. They are, however, kindergarten teachers and maybe thats why. As the story line goes on and they face more adult problems, the characters do tend to become more like realistic adults. Valerie and Andrew are kindergarten teachers at a very prestigious school. They do not like each other at all, and take every chance they get to make each other's life hell. Until one night, where they hook up at a party. I can't really say more than that without ruining the story, BUT you know what they say! "Theres a thin line between love and hate."
Thank you to netgalley, Avon, and Harper Voyager for allowing me the opportunity to read this arc in exchange for an honest review.
I really wanted to love this, but ultimately it fell flat.
I did enjoy the banter between Valerie and Andrew, and I enjoyed the classroom setting with both of them being teachers. I haven't read any books with that dynamic so I was interested! I liked how they were forced to co-teach as well and I am a huge fan of forced proximity. My biggest issue with this book was the pacing and lack of chemistry. I don’t really understand how the MC’s were enemies to lovers, they were just two teachers who got annoyed at the other’s teaching style. To me they just seemed really immature for adults, but I liked the story enough to continue. I’m not always a huge fan of the accidental pregnancy trope, I thought it was okay in this book but I never felt any chemistry between the characters 😭 Their feelings went 0 to 100 SO QUICK and it wasn’t believable at all. So much of the story focused on her pregnancy instead of the relationship development between Andrew and Val, and it's hard to believe they would have gotten together if she didn't get pregnant. Also this is supposed to be a spicy book but there are really only 2 spicy scenes in it 😗😗
Some of the book had me laughing out loud. However, much of it was not captivating. I expected more of a true enemies to lovers, but that was not the case.
I love teacher romances because I am a teacher. I was so excited about this one because I love spicy, enemies to lovers romances, especially with teachers. I was so disappointed though. It wasn't enemies to lovers and it wasn't really spicy either. I didn't connect with the characters, and I found myself struggling to finish this book.
Two kindergarten teachers have a juvenile, antagonistic, prank-filled rivalry until their chemistry leads to a one-night stand lends to an unplanned pregnancy. Insult to injury, due to budget cuts, they have to get over their animosity and differences in teaching style and share a classroom. If they can't get along, the principal threatens to fire one of them. The forced proximity helps Valerie and Andrew to appreciate and respect their differences.
I can buy into the thin line between love and hate and that someone who gets under your skin is someone you might have chemistry with, but the plot is plodding, the banter not so cute, and the outcome predictable.
I received a free advance reader's review copy of #LoveLessons via #NetGalley courtesy of #Harper.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book.
After a couple chapters in, I had to DNF this book.
I love enemies to lovers, especially academic/work rivalry, but this story was just off. The plot and characters lacked depth. The two MCs are elementary school teachers, both full-grown adults, but still acted so immature that it was uncomfortable for me to continue. Their banters felt so icky. As this book is marketed as a spicy rom-com, I honestly can't fathom both MCs genuinely liking each other with the dynamic they have. In addition, the use of POVs was unnecessary since they were all still written in third person.
REVIEW: Love Lessons by Sidney Halston
Love Lessons by Sidney Halston is a sweet and heartwarming tale about two kindergarten teachers who are thrown together after a classroom disaster. The story offers a delightful blend of humor, romance, and unexpected twists.
While the characters are charming and relatable, the plot feels a bit predictable at times. The pacing could have been a little faster, and some of the character development could have been more in-depth. However, the author's ability to capture the nuances of teaching and the challenges of unexpected parenthood was impressive.
Overall, Love Lessons is an enjoyable read that will appeal to fans of contemporary romance. It's a light and fluffy escape that will make you happy and satisfied.
Thank you, Netgalley, Avon, and Harper Voyager, for the free advanced copy for my honest review!
Y'all these two characters irritated my entire soul. They are entirely suited for each other because they are so much alike in how hypocritical they are. Both of their internal monologues at any given time is "Why is he/she doing this to me and I hate the consequences, why are they punishing me?" but neither actually SPOKE to the other person about what bothered them or the reasons behind why they were upset. They just tried to one up each other on pranks and being down right annoying on purpose, and then got insulted when the other did the same and couldn't understand why the other would retaliate. It's even bigger than the miscommunication trope, they are both selfish people who only care about themselves.
I won't even start on the surprise baby trope. No thanks.
Took me a while to get into this story and I didn't really connect with the writing style but still overall a pretty cute story!
First thank you to the author and the publisher! Unfortunately, this book was not for me and I had to DNF.
I thought the premise was promising and had a lot of potential, but unfortunately the writing style and I didn’t go well together. It was a bit choppy and clunky and I had a difficult time relating to the characters.
I don’t doubt that this book will be someone’s next 5 star read though! Thank you for the opportunity
I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoyed this short fun read. It has a light plot with conflict to keep it interesting but not heavy.
Entertaining book that eas sold as enemies to lovers even though it didn't really feel like one
I did appreciate the banter and how their animosity was handled. Just like I liked the pregnancy trope.
I still wished the book had been longer so that we could have had more development
I had the pleasure of receiving an ARC e-book of Love Lessons by Sidney Halston in exchange for my honest review.
I want to thank NetGalley, Sidney Halston, and the publisher for this opportunity. 😊
I requested this ARC based initially on the cutesy character art on the cover and then after reading the summary.. I was sold.
Listen, I wanted to love this book. I was so excited for the plot- but that’s the thing. It didn’t dig any deeper. You know that saying “it could have been an email” - well except in book form. IMO you read the summary and there you have it. No need to open and elaborate on 200 additional pages. 🥲 Also, I was anticipating this book to be sexy🌶️🌶️🌶️ twice. Two times. 😴 I dislike when a book is labeled as super spicy just to get the attention of readers. I would rather go into it knowing it’s just a normal rom-com..
Two kindergarten teachers, Andrew and Valerie, who have completely opposite teaching methods are forced to share a classroom after one of the classrooms becomes inhabitable. While neither one of the teachers is thrilled about this news - the principal threatens to fire one of the other in the best interest in all parties involved. No parent wants a toxic kindergarten environment.
After coming to a semi-truce. They get drunk and have a little fun. The sex is mind blowing, of course, and then regretted immediately after. One night stand and it’s back to hating each other.
Except Valerie gets pregnant.
There you have it. I will not be buying this one, and it’s already slipping out of my memory.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this eARC!
I didn’t not like this book, but I think it just wasn’t exactly what I was looking for. I am a fan of enemies to lovers, but I don’t like when characters are too mean to each other, and I feel like this book was just the characters being extremely mean to each other. The type of enemies to lovers book that I tend to enjoy is more of a witty banter, academic rivalry type of feel, which I didn’t feel like I got with this. I think this book could be great for somebody just not me. Overall, 2,5 stars!
