Brian Copeland has written a heck of a debut novel. A crime thriller with lots of twisty turns and a satisfying ending. Nearly 80% through the book, I felt like I had identified the killer from what they said to another character. I was right, but there was another twist to even the killer’s addendum. I enjoyed the main characters, Topher and Lynn, siblings, one a cop, Lynn, and one a television personality, Topher. Together they set out to find who is killing cops and why. The story takes many detours along the way.
This was a really quick and easy read. I could have finished it in one day, but life happens. There was enough back story throughout the book for both the characters. The story is more plot driven and it pays off.
I believe there needs to be a 2nd book for this one and I hope that there is. I will definitely read it.
The one thing, if any, that I didn’t like was the use of unnecessary attributes. “He put on his “black” silk robe”. This happened quite often and sometimes sounded a bit elitist. I know that may seem petty and I have never commented on attributes, I’m a speech pathologist and I have to teach this skill to kids, but I felt it wasn’t needed in many of the descriptions. That’s just a side note the novel was great and kudos to Copeland for writing such a fantastic book
I recently completed Brian Copeland's debut novel, and it's a total page-turner! The story starts off with a bang and maintains its momentum as we join siblings Lynn and Chris (aka Topher) in a race against time to apprehend a killer. I had a feeling about the culprit's identity, but the actual connection was completely unexpected. If you enjoy thrillers that keep you on your toes, this one is a definite must-read!
Oh, I enjoyed this one!!! I ran through the pages in one day. This was a great crime thriller, jam packed with twists, multiple storylines, and an ending that I didn’t expect. I knew something was going to happen but I did not see the ending turning out the way it did. 😮The pacing of the story was good; the author really built a solid foundation and the climax of the story was just right. I was genuinely looking at everyone as a suspect. I would accept more of this type of story!!! Lynn and Topher were the dynamic duo, if I ever seen one. I loved their sibling bond. Also, can we talk about the fact that Topher changed his name for work purposes to have more opportunities?! Wow- the small details.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.
Brian Copeland's debut novel, "Outraged," is a gripping crime thriller that delves into the contentious issue of police shootings of unarmed African Americans. The narrative follows TV investigative reporter Topher Davis and his sister, SFPD Homicide Detective Lynn Sloan, as they unravel the mystery behind the slayings of Bay Area police officers involved in such shootings.
Copeland's novel is a bold exploration of a topic that resonates deeply with current social issues. The author's background as a comedian and talk show host lends a unique perspective to the storytelling, infusing the narrative with a blend of sharp wit and incisive social commentary. The plot is well-crafted, with a pace that keeps the reader engaged from start to finish.
The characters are richly developed, particularly the protagonist, Topher Davis, whose determination to uncover the truth before his job is cut due to budget constraints adds a layer of urgency to the investigation. His relationship with his sister Lynn provides an emotional depth to the story, as they navigate the dangerous waters of their inquiry.
Copeland's writing style is accessible yet sophisticated, managing to address complex themes without sacrificing entertainment value. The dialogue is authentic, and the San Francisco setting is vividly portrayed, adding to the overall atmosphere of the book.
"Outraged" is a thought-provoking piece that challenges readers to consider the aftermath of police violence from multiple perspectives. It's a commendable first entry into the world of crime fiction for Copeland and a must-read for fans of the genre looking for substance as well as suspense.
Whew this one took me on a wild journey but I enjoyed every second of it! Just know my girl Mandy was right the whole time, I figured something was off about Kendra but I wasn’t 100% sure once she started doing wifey things lol . Topher know how to pick’em huh 🤔 ! This kept me on my toes the whole time, definitely a great read ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
