Wow! What a fun, suspenseful, and surprising novella! I really enjoyed this read. It's amazing how much Revis packed into this story starting with an exciting and suspenseful opening scene that introduces us to an intriguing protagonist. A scavenger with a sharp wit and intellect, Ada is fearless and cunning, and I love her personality. She's so funny and the way she banters with her rescuers cracked me up.

The story is told from Ada's perspective, and you quickly learn there's way more to her than meets the eye. She is such a fun main character, and she goes on a dangerous adventure to retrieve something from an uninhabited and lava-filled planet. It's fantastic - suspenseful and dangerous while still funny and charming.

The crew aboard the ship that rescues Ada has some great personalities, and they each respond to Ada so differently. There's one character in particular with whom Ada has an exorbitant amount of chemistry, and the way she teases him and throws him off his guard is fantastic, as are the growing feelings they seem to have for each other. Rian and Ada come from very different worlds, and a lot of secrets, lies, and more stand between them. I'm dying to see where their relationship is headed, especially because they have different views on many things, especially the way the government is run.

I also liked the world-building and thought it was impressive that Revis built such a complex world in a novella of this length. There are no info dumps, and the various settings are so vivid. Revis's writing is engaging, immersive, and descriptive while still being concise. She truly has a way with words.

A fast-paced and fun space adventure with unique worlds, engaging characters, and a bit of romance, this is a quick and entertaining read. There are also some interesting documents and notes at the end of the story, and between them and that ending, I can't wait to read the next book!

I felt no connection to any character, the world-building was almost nonexistent, and the science fiction was nowhere to be found. The romance also wasn't there. I would only recommend this book for beginners in the science fiction genre it gave me nothing

2.75-3 stars for the effort and the decent writing, but I'm pretty ambivalent about the whole thing. I felt like I was dropped into the middle of any already progressing story, and didn't have the proper context to immerse myself, so by the time more of the plot started happening towards the end, I was already fairly bored and disengaged. Not sure there's any salvaging my interest in this series, but I do believe that other readers might connect more with it. There's a snarky FMC, an MMC now with an axe to grind, and space shenanigans.

Full Speed to a Crash Landing is one of those books that proved that you don’t need to write a gazillion of pages to make a story interesting. When I requested this book from Netgalley, I kept my expectations just a notch lower than high. Yes, I’ve heard of Beth Ravis and I’ve seen her books raking in excellent reviews for her other books but I have not read any of her books until this one. I’m glad that I picked the right book because I really enjoyed it. It’s short but action packed, straightforward, and hit all the nice things I like about sci-fi books.

What’s more amazing is that the war being referred to in Full Speed to a Crash Landing was environment-related. Being an environmentalist myself, I can definitely relate to this book because I fucking believe in climate change, environmental pollution, yada, yada. I always have this subconscious fear that the world might give up on us one day, just like what happened to this book. Full Speed to a Crash Landing had me anticipating at what will happen to the whole Universe in the next novella or the full book series (if there is one). I can’t wait to see more of how Beth Ravis will explore the world she has created in this novella.

But the environmental problem being tackled in this book is just a background menace as the story really focuses on Ada Lamarr, the protagonist, who made a living by scavenging/looting things from ruined spaceship wrecks, etc. She’s actually your go to girl if you want something done illegally. Heh. As a short book, it made me happy that Ada and Rian’s characterization were not compromised and that they had me rooting for them at around page 10. All that crazy banter, outsmarting, and lusting over each other were fun and made the whole read so easy.

All in all, I’m excited to read the next book. Please give this a try and it won’t disappoint. :D

I will start this by saying that I believe that Beth Revis is one of my favourite authors, I have loved all of her other books that I have read so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I was super excited to have the chance to read this one. It is also safe to say that I was not disappointed in this book.

We follow Ada Lamarr, a spaceship scavenger as she requires rescuing from her latest spaceship wreck scavenge had gone wrong. The ship and crew that rescue her end up have their own job that they are required to do. The interactions between Ada and the crew of this rescue ship is the driving force of this novella. Dont get me wrong, it still has intense actionish scenes, but this story revolves around the characters (mainly Ada and Rian the government agent onboard the rescue ship) and the game of cat and mouse that they end up playing.

I absolutely loved this and I could not recommend it enough.

A really fun, fast space adventure that I enjoyed thoroughly. Our narrator is spunky, funny and independent and is definitely hiding something. It’s fun trying to work out what and then how it’s all going to play out. I loved the cast of side characters also and the banter with our main man.
Fantastic novella. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

I absolutely loved this book.. having loved the Martian, I was excited to read something that had a similar vibe, but with a different style of writing. I felt like this book would satisfy the most ardent of supporters. I
Enjoyed being thrown into the action right away the whole distress call and the time it took for the ship to respond.. the tension was palpable. I loved Ada and her no bullshit attitude when it came to the engagement of the other characters and the thoughts that flitted through her mind during the story..
I definitely felt Miss Revis, could have shown Ada’s motives a little later in the story as in some of the dialogue was showing Ada’s hand a little too early for me.. I loved the end though. I really new she was up to no good, but I didn’t really understand it until she was in the airlock.. so that was fantastic..

It’s amazing how much world building and chemistry between characters Revis is able to pack into this short novella. Although the story trods through very familiar sci fi territory and the twist ending isn’t super shocking, it’s well done and a perfect quick and light read. I love to see a scrappy Hans Solo type character in a sci fi story that’s female. I look forward to the rest of the series where I assume we’ll get to dive more into the politics of the world and hopefully more into Rian and Ada’s romance as well.

Full Speed To A Crash Landing is a quick read novella that sort of reads like a pilot to a TV show. When you get to the end, the stakes are set for what comes next. This is the first in a trilogy of novellas, and after reading the first one I’m very much looking forward to the other two in the series.

The story is written in the first person. I loved Ada. She’s quick, smart, and thinks how she talks. It was fun reading her thoughts. Make sure to read all the documents and notes at the end. They are 100% part of the story and really gets you thinking about the next book. This was a really fun read. I’m curious to see if my opinion changes as the next installments come to complete the story.

I loved it! Coming in at 192 pages it would be considered a novella but it was so fast paced and every conversation was just enjoyable to read. Ada was quick- witted and a shameless flirt in my opinion, just naturally funny. I’d honestly forgive her for just about anything. I could just tell she was a realist, while Rian is an idealist. The banter was excellent in my opinion! I can see Rian’s appeal to Ada, he kept his cards close to his chest but started opening up to Ada as she won him over. I look forward to seeing their interactions in the next books!

I liked the depiction of human colonies and what’s left of original Earth in this book, while it is set in the vast emptiness of space with a volatile planet it brought the story close to home still.

I look forward to reading the next book and have already requested it on Netgalley, I’m interested in seeing more of Ada and Rian and the different planets and politics and scavenging and secret agents… everything!

We follow Ada, who has to be rescued after her ship is damaged while on a looting mission. She ends up with a crew that is not happy to have her aboard, especially since it could compromise their own mission. Both Ada and the rescue crew try to continue their separate missions while not fully convinced they can trust each other. This leads to plenty of banter, sneaking around, and brief moments of honesty to get each other’s guard down.

This was such a fun read! Ada is a complicated character who keeps her cards close to her chest. I enjoyed seeing how she interacted with the other characters, especially Rian. Ada and Rian have a sort of cat-and-mouse game going on while trying to sort out their growing attraction and I could easily read a full-length novel focused on just the two of them. I would have liked some more background on the characters to understand their motivations a bit more, but I’m sure more will be revealed as the series continues. I really look forward to the sequel!

Overall, a strong 4⭐️ read and I look forward to picking up a physical copy when it comes out on August 6!

This story is a wonderful surprise. You know from the start that Ada is not just a refugee saved from near death, but as her whole plan is slowly released as you read, it keeps you glued to the page. The tension with Rain throughout only helps build the suspense for the betrayal by Ada that you know is coming. A wonderful sci-fi adventure with an interesting but not difficult-to-understand world. I really enjoyed all of the characters as well; you get a strong enough picture of who they are even in such a short story.

I can't wait for the next installment.

Full Speed to a Crash Landing is the first part in a new Novella series, perfect for readers who like their MC's on the sassy side, plenty of banter and enough action and high stakes to make the plot fly by.

The story is told from the POV of Ada, a looter whose last mission left her with a gaping hole in her ship and her oxygen quickly running out. She's a character I almost instantly fell in love with, sassy to the max, never one to pass up on making a quip of some sort. On the outside she seems pretty easygoing, fairly confident, but as the story progresses we come to learn she is somewhat of an unreliable narrator. Alongside Ada we spend time with the crew of the Halifax, and considering this is just a Novella, and we don't spend a massive amount of time with a lot of them, they all have distinct voices and characteristics. Rian is the member of the crew Ada, and through her we, spend the most time with. Not the Captain of the ship, but certainly the man in charge of the mission, at first he is suspicious of Ada, of her plans for the ship she was looting, but as the story progresses she works her magic and slowly starts to break down his walls.

The story is set in a world where Earth has been almost destroyed by pollution and humans have made the decision to colonize other planets. But Revis doesn't spend a whole bunch of time on the world-building, simply giving us the basics so we have an understanding of the state of the galaxy, instead she focuses on the mission that the Halifax has been sent on, and Ada trying to work out what exactly that is. That being said, she definitely delves into what happened to Earth, their desperate hope to restore it to it's former glory and the politics that are currently making that nearly impossible. She does manage to fit an awful lot into such a small amount of pages, never seeming to skip on plot or character exploration.

This almost reads like a serialized novel, rather than novella series, which I guess are the same thing. I just mean that the whole plot of this novella felt like the start of a book, if that makes sense, with the next one being the middle and so on. It's something I actually really enjoyed, more so when I realised that I wouldn't have to wait too long for the next book, but it just made the story feel that much more propulsive and high octane. It's a story that takes off from the first page, with little to no let up, building to it's, almost inevitable, ending.

There's a little romance arc thrown in for good measure, and despite the fact that it was slightly insta lusty, at least on Ada's part (it's hard not to with novella's I know) I really enjoyed it. It was fun thanks to Ada's personality, the innuendo's, glances and touches that get thrown in, and I'm eager to see it getting explored in the next book. But the big shocker with this one was the ending. I mentioned Ada being an unreliable narrator and the ending really shines a light on that. It's a cliffhanger and plot twist all in one and I absolutely did not see it coming. Thankfully there isn't too long a wait for book two (December) so I'll hopefully be able to get my hands on it sooner rather than later. If you're looking for a fun and fast paced read that doesn't ask too much of the reader, I would absolutely recommend giving this one a go.

I’m always on the look out for good sci fi romance. I thought this might fit the bill. I was disappointed.
I love a slow burn but I have to feel the attraction, the tension. There wasn’t any.
The FMC is dodgy. She uses all the tools in her arsenal to distract and flummox. She has an agenda and she’s going to bend things to meet it.
I am curious about where this might go. Enough to read the next book.

I am new to the sci-fi romance genre and this was perfect. This story is incredibly fast-paced, and immediately you were thrown into the characters. I really enjoyed the heist, Ada and all of the characters were easy to love. I actually wish it was a full story to get more in depth. Can’t wait for book 2! Does end on a cliffhanger, so you have been warned!

Loved this one! Great and fun read. Highly recommend.

To absolutely no one’s surprise, I loved this book. I’ve been a fan of Beth Revis since I read Across the Universe many years ago, but I had forgotten how amazing her characters and the story always are. I fell in love with Ada Lamarr as soon as I read her name and realized she probably represented some of the 2 most well known female scientists of all time (spoiler alert, I was right about her name ❤️). Ada’s sarcastic and quirky way of speaking and thinking quickly cemented my love, and now I would do anything for her.

Aside from great characters, there’s also the story. It’s a space heist for goodness sake, who wouldn’t love it?! You also aren’t having to read a long, drawn out story, this is nice and short perfect for a quick little read. Cannot stress enough how much I loved this book! 5⭐️
