I love the artwork and the concept of introducing the fruit of the Spirit in a creative way. Love how the artist got involved in the story. It's so so cool. However, introducing the fruits of the Spirit in this book lacks three things: 1. the exclusivity of it to a Christian as if someone just can hop on board the bus 2. Some of the fruits of the Spirit are missing 3. Without diving a bit more on each of the fruits of the Spirit, it felt that their is no distinction between each other example: love and kindness.

Impressions: For reference I have an 8-year-old son who I read this with. The rhyming words were a bit juvenile for him. I felt the rhyming took away from the intention of the book. The text mimicked song lyrics of “Less Like Me” by Zach Williams. The idea was cute, but the format lacked depth. Rather than explaining the concepts of the song, the book creates a rhyme that felt all over the place. Perhaps I am being too critical, but I like to be intentional about what books we read together, and this didn’t feel like it had enough depth to bother with.
Quotes: “Forgive yourself and others too, for that’s the gentle thing to do.” - Is forgiving gentle? In a roundabout way maybe but forgiving is a command that stems from love not gentleness.
“Did I do all I could today to take someone's pain away.” It is a strange question to propose to a 4–8-year-old. As an adult I understand what is being referenced here and although the text references seeing people's needs, it is presented in an abrupt manner without depth.
I received an ARC of this book via the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review shared here.
It is always a blessing to find a children’s book that is more than just entertaining. Zach Williams has used ideas from his hit song to invite children (and adults) to get on board with Jesus, look beyond themselves, and serve others. The gorgeous illustrations really make it all pop and give a lot of things to point out and discuss without cluttering the pages. The bright colors will draw children in, and they will see the characters doing many different things to help other people. I immediately appreciated the variety of colors and abilities of the children depicted, making this a book any child will enjoy looking at again and again as they learn to put others first with God’s help. This is the type of book I wanted my children to have when they were little. It would make a perfect gift for any child.

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC! I love Zach Williams and that isn’t necessary for this book! This is a happy, upbeat, positive children’s book. This book encourages the reader to be more like Jesus, which is all about being kind to others and putting others first. So everyone needs to learn that no matter who you are! My 3 yo was entertained by the illustrations too. Great book for the family!
I and my kids loved this book. It's super sweet and a great reminder to be kind and loving to all, just like Jesus.
Cute book that goes through some of the fruit of the Spirit and shows kids how they can be more mindful of treating others the way Jesus treats them and wants them to treat others. The illustrations are cute and detailed and the story has a sing-song rhyme to it that will appeal to younger children, and a message that will appeal to older children. Sweet book!
A big thank you to Netgalley and Zonderkidz- Books for an advanced read copy of this wonderful book!
A Little More Like Jesus is sweet little book based off of Zach William's song that ties in the fruits of the spirit. My kindergartener loved this book and spent time pointing out all the ways the children in the book could be more like Jesus. I love how this book pulls in the fruits of the spirit and gives practical examples of each in the illustrations. This is a book I will be sharing with my Pre-k/kindergarten Sunday School class as well.
This was such a good book!!! I love that it teaches kids how to think about others and help people! To let THE light shine through them!
