The first in a new series by Peggy Webb and Bookouture. I have to say I found it to be way below the 4-5 star reads I've come to expect from this publisher. This one would be okay to read in a pinch, if I didn't have anything better to read. It was a below average read for me. I didn't like, nor connect to any of the characters, especially Rachel. I found her to be too weak to be the lead character.
Unfortunately, this one didn't cut it. 1.5/5
Thank you for the eARC #netgalley and #bookouture.
Rachel is a single mother and a schoolteacher in a small community that is being threatened by "The Collector". A person that started out taking small items out of houses and now is taking children. Rachel has a foreshadowing of smelling magnolia's that the Collector is after her children next, but it isn't the children he is after, it is her. Can her deceased husband's best friend Hank, protect them from the coming events?
This is a fast paced, edge of your seat story that holds your interest from the first page to the last. I can't wait to see what the next book is in the series.
Thank you to the Author and NetGalley for an ARC in return for my honest review.
A new series and a new author for me.
I loved how the mysticism of New Orleans wafted its way to the Colorado Rockies. The scent of magnolias was like the do do music playing in the background…very ominous.
Rachel was bad ass all through the book. The best part was her time with the Collector. It was so creepy how she held her own against the demented maniac. I surmised her plan based on her tote bag before it was implemented and I got some hardy laughs at the descriptive outcome. However, it was also scary and I read faster to see what would happen.
Hunky Helicopter Hank and his Stetson had my heart from the start.
The ending was sublime but I must know what happens to the other sisters!
I finally got how the book title fit in after Cuckoo of the Crows fluttered in.
Black Crow Cabin: A completely addictive thriller packed with suspense is a gripping and mysterious small town thriller with paranormal aspects. I enjoyed the mystery, the characters, and the mounting danger on every page!
Rachel is a schoolteacher who is navigating life after the sudden death of her husband. She, her children, and her grandmother are living in a small town which appears to be picture perfect. Unfortunately, living amongst them is a “collector" who takes children. Rachel has heard the whispers of the locals, she has heeded the danger, but when a photograph is taken from their home and a tarot card is left in its place, she knows her children are in danger. Rachel calls Henk, her husband's best friend, who agrees to come and stay with the family to keep them safe.
Readers are given the POV of the collector which makes for interesting reading. Knowing the thoughts, motivations, and goal of the Collector enhanced the story for me. Who is the collector? What has this person never been caught????? These were the questions swirling through my mind as I read.
I enjoyed the tension, the mounting sense of danger, the suspense, and the paranormal aspects of the book. The paranormal parts come in the form of "gifts" the women in the family have. This is the first book in the 'Logan Sisters' series which has me assuming that each sister will have her own book with the other sisters having minor roles as was the case in this book.
I found this to be a solid start for the series. I look forward to reading the next book when it comes out.
Black Crow Cabin gives us a bit of a paranormal aspect to the story which I found intriguing.
The plot has many twists and turns throughout that has you wondering what is going on and what is going to happen next.
The story did start out a bit slow for me. I am glad I pushed on and kept reading.
Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Suspenseful and Action-Packed!!
Black Crow Cabin has a suspenseful and action-packed storyline with a touch of the supernatural, that keeps you engaged from start to finish. This captivating story introduces you to a cast of relatable characters and takes you on a journey filled with unexpected twists and turns that will keep you eagerly turning the pages.
The vivid descriptions of the scenes unfolding are so real that at times you feel as if you can smell the lingering scent of Magnolia in the air. As a long-time reader of this author, I can confidently say this book lives up to expectations and is a great start to the Logan Sisters Thriller series. I highly recommend it. 5-stars
This was a very twisted book in a really good way. This was very fast paced and engaging. The twists were good and difficult to see coming. Overall, a really great book and I would recommend it.
First in a new series featuring three sisters. Full of suspense, mystery and a hint of the paranormal. A good read looking forward to the next one.
This is the first book in a series and I am already impatiently awaiting book two!! Rachel, an overprotective single mother, is obsessed with a the local "collector." He is a person that no one notices. He manages to slide in and out of people's houses, snatching things as he goes. Sometimes this includes people. This is a book that I could not put down. Once I started, the pages just kept turning. I do not think you would want to miss this book. This is my first Peggy Webb book, but happily it will not be my last!! Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this book for my honest opinion.
Straight away I could feel the tension and suspense in this book, the fear of The Collector really had me gripped.
The cover definitely gives creepy vibes!
Great start to the series and will definitely keep reading the series! Paranormal and romance yes pls!!! This book had me.on the edge of my seat !!!
Thanks NetGalley for letting me read and review
Great start to a new series , loved how you had a touch of the paranormal in it as well as a touch of romance and wow the collector, was someone I didn't want to meet or even know. It had me on edge from the very start
Wonderful… It gripped me from the first page until the last. The characters are so amazing… This story kept me glued all the way through… Phenomenal…
(3.5)Widow single mother, a serial "collector", strong grandmother, ex military friend with possible love interest and twists. Rachel our widowed mother is also a school teacher. Hank is ex military. I knew who the collector was when first appeared on the page, but there were still some excellent twists which is why I rounded up to a 4. This was a little slow until more than half way thru=ough the book. I am not sure if maybe because it's book one and laying the groundwork or if its just me. This has some cringe worthy suspense moments and a few heartfelt emotions with Hank. Rachel seemed to second and third guess her self which would pull me out of the story. I am the odd man out in the collector did nothing for me till the end when we got the back story. I felt sorry for him and what he was trying to build, but not everyone acts on darkness, There is a hint of spooky, paranormal or cajun woo woo which enhanced the plot. Thank you for the arc. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #BlackCrowCabin #PeggyWebb #Bookouture #NetGalley
This is the first book in the Logan sisters series. Rachel is a school teacher that is more than a little freaked out with the kidnapping of children in her small town. She knows her children are in danger and the collector has her in his sights ! Although a bit slow to start the suspense revved up about half way through and ends with so much suspense and thrills! Great start to a new series and look forward to more books by Peggy Webb.
As a parent, this one really freaked me out!! Half the time I wanted to shake Rachel, and the other half of the time I was wondering what I would do in that situation, which I feel is such a good quality in a book, the ability to imagine yourself in it. I love a story that will keep me on the edge of my seat the whole time and pull me in right away and this book did! Also It may just be me, but Criminal Minds vibes?? Anyone else?
Black Crow Cabin is the first in the Logan Sisters series, and Peggy Webb has really set the bar high for herself! This book had so much mystery and edge-of-your-seat thrills that kept me guessing until the end. And that Epilogue cliffhanger was just cruel! Haha
Single, widowed mother, Rachel Logan was a school teacher who got along with everyone. When the local bad actor, nicknamed The Collector kidnaps children instead of just stealing random items from people’s houses, Rachel worries about her two children being next.
Rachel does all that she can to keep this from happening, but will fate and the Collector have other ideas? What will happen in their town of Manitou? Will the Collector be stopped? Will the kidnapped children be found in time?
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Bookouture for this thrilling new ARC!!!
Fabulous book. I read it in 2 sittings. Was so good I couldn’t put it down. I am so excited this is the start of a series. I hope we have book 2 very soon. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.
MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD:
I related to Rachel as a mom who wants to protect my children but sometimes I wanted to scream at her and say call the cops already. I loved the dual POV and enjoyed the killers POV especially. It was interesting to see the world from his eyes and get a bit of background on why he is the way he is. Rachel’s grandmother is a hilarious old Irish woman who isn’t scared of anything and loves her little farm. Overall a great start to the series and I’m looking forward to seeing more from the other sisters and not just Rachel.
I was not expecting the collector to be the mailman, nor was I expecting the renter to be his bio brother. I suspected the renter but that was quite the twist. Wish I got more romance out of her and hank besides the ending but hey it’s not a romance book so I’ll take what I can get.
Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this ARC**
This is an extremely suspenseful book. It’s got a touch of paranormal in it. Anything dealing with harm to children always resonates in my heart. Rachel is a heroine that you can’t help but admire. She’s courageous and tenacious in keeping her children safe. There are twists and turns throughout.
