Another hit out of the ballpark. Held my interest from start to finish. Already looking forward to the next one in the series.
I didn’t finish this one. Not my type of read. Although, I typically really enjoy this author’s books.
Another fantastic book by James Patterson!
This book is book two in a series, and I would recommend reading book one first just so you get to know the amazing character, Jane.
Jane is a determined, energetic ex-cop who is fighting cancer, but she in no way lets that stop her. She is fierce and strategic. You don't want to miss this series.
Highly recommend. Five stars
Thank you to NetGalley and Little Brown and Compan for this amazing book.
I am a HUGE fan of James Patterson. This book was full of action!!! The heroine is one tough cookie proving she is just not a lawyer but that she can fight for her life in more than one way! This was my first time in the world of Jane Smith and I will be checking out more in this series.
Hard to Kill is a book that is hard to read. There is a lot going on in this story of an attorney, an investigator, a veterinarian and assorted criminal associates who may be alive or dead. The story is so convoluted that this reader did not really care or explain why he muddled through to the unsatisfactory conclusion.
This book was just okay. I was honestly a little disappointed in it. Way too many threads to keep track of, and even a feeling of too many characters. I would find my attention drifting at times. However, there was some good suspense, and the female lead seems pretty badass.
Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC.
I enjoyed "12 Months to Live" by these two authors and I knew that I wanted to read this one as soon as I could. These two have such a knack for writing great stories and I love their characters. I enjoyed this book as well and getting to follow Jane in her journey to kick cancer's butt.
Jane is a great character in herself. She is stubborn, determined and doesn't let anyone get over on her. Jane has just gotten her client, Rob, acquitted for murder and Jane knows that she will take on the case even though she is still taking chemo and fighting her cancer.
Jane ends up putting her partner, sister and boyfriend in danger taking on this case. Jane knows that she needs to give up the case and focus on her cancer but she just can't bring herself to let enough alone. I enjoyed getting to go on this journey with Jane as she fights to keep working and defending her reputation as well as fighting cancer. Not only is Jane fighting cancer, her sister is fighting cancer as well, Jane tries to be supportive for her and encourage her to beat her cancer as well as focus on getting her cancer in check. Jane is one of the lucky ones and doesn't loose her hair from the chemo.
I hope that we continue to get books from Patterson and Lupica with Jane as the main character. She is one tough cookie and knows what she is doing and wants in life. I know you will enjoy going on this ride with Jane as I did.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and all opinions are my own. Thanks to NetGalley, the authors and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book.
Seems like this might be a fairly good series. Mike Lupica is good. Enjoyed the book. read the first one and noe this I will probably continue if there are more
This is the second book in the series where Jane is an attorney taking on cases while fighting cancer. As happened in the first book, more than just the cancer is trying to kill her. Her best Jimmy and her boyfriend Ben are also in this book, which leads to more storylines. Great book!
Rating: 4.5 Stars
I have been a fan of the James Patterson-Mike Lupica writing duo books, and I am so happy that the Jane Smith series is going to continue to exist. This is the second book in the Jane "Effing" Smith series, and it picks right up where we left off. Jane and her ex-cop partner are digging deeper into their client's case and background (a repeat client), and they are constantly in danger.
I highly recommend that you read the first in this series, 12 Months to Live, in order to better understand the relationships with all the characters. I also will warn you that it's very obvious that there will be at least a third book. The twist in this one was predictable, but I thought it was still enjoyable.
I'm looking forward to the next book in this series!
5 ⭐️s!! This is James Patterson and Mike Lupica at their best. Fast paced and action- packed. This is the second book with attorney Jane effing Smith and her investigator Jimmy. But it can be read as a stand alone. I can hardly wait to read the next one now. This is a great summer read. You will want to get this one right away!
Thank you to Net Galley and Little, Brown and Company for the ARC to review.
Jane is many things- tough, spunky, snarky, a word that rhymes with rich, and determined to kick cancer. She may also kick certain bad guys unmentionable anatomical parts. It feels like Jane just got Rob acquitted for murdering a family, now another family has suffered the same fate. Her investigator, Jimmy a former detective, knows she’ll represent Rob again. She’s too stubborn to argue with, regardless, he’ll always have her back. Together they start pulling strings and the same names keep popping up. Jane has put her sister, her boyfriend and Jimmy in danger before but the bad guys double down this time. If you haven’t read 12 Months to Live yet, it’s a must- read, many of the mobsters, lowlife criminals and police are still in the plot.
It’s impossible not to root for Jane, she wants to win the battle in the courtroom and with the Big C. I found myself cheering her on, reflective of all those people who fight the terrible disease daily. Its not a morose or sad story, but one of a courage and resilience. Bonus – she’s funny and sarcastic and living her life. What a terrific book! The characters are permeated with Long Island local color and the gangsters are winning, until Jane sets her sights on them.
An advance reader copy of “Hard to Kill” Jane Smith (volume 2), by James Patterson and Mike Lupica, Little, Brown and Company, Hachette Book Group, Publication 07/29/2024, was provided by NetGalley. The above thoughts and opinions are my own honest personal thoughts given voluntarily without compensation.
This is a great new series. It is the second book and I'm glad to see this character again. Hits home a little hard due to her medical issues, but she is kicking ass. Can't wait for book 3.
Totally intriguing! Exactly the type of book that thriller lovers enjoy! The characters are very engaging! I loved this book!
I love James Patterson and don't think I've ever read a bad book by him! This was a great read, well written, a real page-turner. The characters were well developed and the plot was well flushed out. Easy to read and follow. Would highly recommend.
This is book 2 in the Jane Smith series. The first book was a little slow, so I had higher hopes for the sequel.
The book was ok, and it got into more character development for the main characters, and brought back a bad guy from book 1.
It was a solid read and I got through it pretty quickly
Another fun, entertaining book in the Jane Effing Smith series! Hard to Kill gets very confusing with all the characters but that may be the point with a number of shady actors swirling around the scene. Action-packed with murder and deception plus an ongoing health issue for Jane and her sister.
Thanks to NetGalley and Little, Brown and Company for the opportunity to read this ARC.
The first book in the series was better than this second one. Jane is still an ex-cop and a smart lawyer, and she is still battling terminal cancer. The dialog in this book is really stellar, sharp and biting and very realistic. The problem is the plot, which is murky and confusing and involves way too many people. All the characters seem to run together in my mind, with no one standing out as memorable. You cannot tell who is good or who is bad, but in this type of book that's a good thing. I just got so confused by all the characters that by the time the climax arrives, I really don't care. Jane is still an interesting character, though, and I'm happy the authors decided to make this a series, although with the protagonist's terminal cancer diagnosis, the series may be short. Just please develop the characters so that they stand out when reading. Thanks to NetGalley and Little, Brown and Company for providing an ARC.
This is the second book in this series and it as another hit from the authors. A good mystery with a lot of suspense and page turning excitement. This is a book which I would recommend to all who like a good mystery.
Jane Effing Smith is back again with her pal Jimmy defending Rob Jacobson for a second time on a déjà vu case mirroring his first acquittal. Hard to Kill is the second book in the Jane Smith series and I loved it! This storyline wove more about her personal side as she grapples with fighting cancer and evaluates her life. No spoilers to be revealed in this review, but I highly recommend Hard to Kill and Jane Smith is a fantastic character. 5 stars! Thanks to NetGalley and Little Brown and Company for providing an ARC in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own. Publication Date: July 29, 2024
