This was a new to me author so I wasn’t sure how much I’d like this read, but I flew through this book like I was trying to win a Grand Prix of my own. It’s super cute and surprisingly emotional for a book about F1. I ended up crying like a BABY!
Phaedra hates Cosmin. He’s their top racer, and is a deadly combo of cocky and flirty. She works behind the scenes and it’s already difficult enough being a girl in a male dominated workplace, but Cosmin is determined to drive her insane. Her coworkers claim she’s being overly emotional, but she’s tired of his behavior towards her. She wants to be taken seriously at work, but he’s making her life hard.
Phaedra is a bit of a genius which makes her come across as cold and somewhat abrasive. Yet Cosmin can’t get enough of it. I was eating up the tension between these two. Despite the animosity, there’s a spark there. But you know what they say, there’s a fine line between love and hate. I loved watching these two figure out where they lie on that spectrum.
This was such a fun book. Of course it comes with a guaranteed HEA, but it was an enjoyable ride seeing how it would get to that point. The little snippets of Cosmin culture and language were such a nice touch. He’s constantly saying little quips that Phaedra doesn’t understand, but I was melting with each translation.
I couldn’t believe how fast I finished this book. I’m so thankful to Forever publishing and NetGalley for providing this eARC as a read now. I’ve been looking forward to it since it was announced and boy did it deliver. If you love F1 and enemies to lovers, you’ll enjoy this book!
Loved this one! Great and fun read. Highly recommend.
Many thanks to the publisher, Netgalley, and the author for my ARC.
I liked the cover of this book and description but the female main character is just very unlikeable. It ends up ruining the book.
A fun, quick read. I was really interested in this book because it was based on formula 1 racing. I like the concept of her being a woman in a very male-dominated industry and how that affected the way she originally saw Cosmin. I loved Cosmin's use of Romanian in the book and how Phaedra learned the language from him. That made their arguments and flirting so much better in my opinion. The beginning was great, started off solid, but as the book went on, it felt like it was dragging and becoming repetitive. I also feel like Phaedra should’ve done some more groveling. That’s just me though. Overall, it was still a good read.
A sizzling F1 romance for fans of Lauren Asher's Dirty Air series. Romanian driver Cosmin and American F1 heiress and engineer Phaedra have chemistry that jumps off the page and will make you want to learn Romanian. A delightful read for the peak of F1 season.
I liked the F1 aspect of this book and the plot it was really unique and I’ve never read anything like it. Struggled to finish though because the main character was so unlikeable and I couldn’t connect at all so it really took away from the book. Might just not be my cup of tea though and would still recommend to people who are fans of F1 and racing.
I absolutely despised this book. the female character was selfish and awful and I believe she needed therapy. this is not a book I enjoyed.
This book gave me the ick. I absolutely had high hopes for it and it let me down hard. I DNF this at 21%. The FMC is very rude and mean and downright horrible and life is too short to read a book you can’t get past your absolute dislike for one of the characters.
Grabbed this on Read Now. As I thought, it's not really my type of romance, nor my style as I'm not interested in car racing at all. First time for everything, but this didn't work out for me
This one annoyed me because Phaedra's entire personality was her either being Really Smart (TM) or just really really mean to those around her. Like the way she treats both her alleged best friend and Cosmin were terrible and I really couldn't stomach it.
I really enjoyed enjoyed the book overall, I’m always down for a feral man who’s obsessed with the fmc, but I do want to add that I wish there was a little more character development in the healing area of the fmc’s life as well as the mmc. They both went through some traumatic stuff and I am still upset over what she said to him in their fight. As much as I love them together I believe that they separately need some time to heal. I also want to add that as a Romanian person we never really see any representation in popular media, so I was really happy to see some Romanian rep in a romance novel!
This was a story of incredibly passionate main characters who wore their full range of emotions-through the ups and the downs- on their sleeves. Phaedra and Cosmin were an incredible depiction of the reverse grumpy x sunshine trope. Really enjoyed this one!
I read till about 70% of this book and unfortunately couldn’t continue with the book . I won’t be rating it outside if NetGalley because I didn’t finish the book. I think people that like F1 and characters that aren’t that likable will probably enjoy this one. I liked the F1 aspect and female engineer aspect but unfortunately I didn’t enjoy the romance and the main characters. I just couldn’t get behind the lack of growth from the fmc, sexiest comments in the beginning and borderline verbal abuse by the fmc. It was a lot and because of the lack of character development I couldn’t do it. Thank you forever for this arc!
. Josie Juniper blends accurate racing details with accessible storytelling, making it a perfect read for fans of workplace romance and motorsport. I highly recommend it and might even re-read it myself!
Thank you to Forever for the e-arc!
Now, I went into this book hoping to meet Phaendra, a badass fmc who is a race car engineer. Instead, I met a "pick me" fmc who not only brings down women but her own co-worker because she believes he is "sexist." Yet Cosmin isn't the true sexist between them...
Phaendra has a spheal in which she talks about how she hates "women-only" gyms and that to me KILLED her character for me. I understand that maybe she might not be a fan of them but to tear down their existence was unnecessary for me. To be entirely honest, I think Phaendra struggles with internalized sexism and unfortunately there is no confrontation of this.
If you are looking for a girls girl fmc in this book, you won't find it.
As for the actual romance of the book, I really couldn't feel it between the main characters. Phaendra's dislike towards the MMC Cosmin goes on to affect their work life to the point in which they are required to take a trip to get them to bond but instead, we see sudden increase in feelings.
Reading it felt like a fast paced ride that I was forced to go on.
This is one of the books that instead of a relationship, I wish both characters went to therapy rather than pursuit a relationship because I personally do not believe their relationship actually lasted longer than a few months.
I was so excited to read this book because I love racing. It seemed like the perfect book for me. The story was okay, it wasn’t bad but I was a little disappointed. I did have very high hopes going in and I think it’s worth a read.
This book wasn’t exactly what I thought it was going to be. I found the plot very compelling but the main character was borderline verbally abusive to everyone around her and I was unable to look past that and was unable to finish this book as I do not find that comfortable to read about.
Thank you for the arc netgalley!
whoa whoa whoa! Who knew I would love a spicy read about F1 racing?! Goodness me, I did.
I really struggled with Phaedra for a good bit of the story, but I came to see that it was entirely intentional for her to be absolutely obnoxious.
Cosmin in his "fell first" glory was such a good dude! I adored him.
By the end I couldn't help but smile at how their entire story was wound.
Thank you Netgalley and Forever for this spectacular read! All thoughts are of my own opinion.
When I began reading this book I was really enjoying it, but then the FMC began to really get on my nerves. She is in no way a likeable character. From her way of talking, to how she treats every single person in this story, I really hated her. She would treat everyone so poorly basically the entire book that I wondered how any of them supposedly liked her at all, as a friend or love interest.
I was interested in the subplot with the MMC and his sister and their charity. It could have been something very dark and tricky and exciting, but that storyline ended up disappointing me as well.
Ultimately I don’t think I would be able to recommend this book to people, unless you really enjoy reading about a “takes no bs, but is also incredibly self-sabotaging” FMC.
This book would also be potentially more interesting if you were already an F1 fan, and perhaps that side of the story would keep you interested more.
2 stars.
This is a story full of love and heartache that gave me exactly what I needed as I was going through a difficult time. I cried and laughed alongside the characters as they faced wins and losses of their own. The characters were dynamic with intense background stories that allowed you to connect with them emotionally and become invested in their sucess. This book offered an introduction to the next book which has me eagerly anticipating it's release. I will be going back to see what else the author has written because the writing style was effective in its delivery, allowing the reader to become immersed in the story.
