I've always had a strong work ethic and a desire to learn to grow. However, with the addition of new roles in my life - wife, mother - I've occasionally felt myself get complacent in one or more areas of my life as my different roles compete for time and attention.
Dynamic Drive is the perfect book to help us recognize where and how in our life we are becoming complacent. Whether it be taking the easy way at work because coasting means we're still doing a good job and collecting a paycheck or neglecting to take care of our bodies and minds because it's easier to say we're too busy or focused on other things, complacency is all around us. I appreciated that this book wasn't a one size fits and all and recognizes the dynamic nature of life. It's not about finding balance, but finding alignment. Where are we right now and what do we need to do to ensure we are aligned to move forward in the right direction?
It was eye opening to learn about discipline and alignment and how to incorporate these practices in our daily lives. It was also nice to recognize that part of our success is in finding like-minded individuals and surrounding ourselves by driven and strong people.
Overall, this book was highly motivating and encouraged me to look deeper at my priorities and my values. It reminded me that when I take care of myself, focus on taking the next step forward, and staying true to my higher power, I can achieve whatever I set my mind to. I also appreciated that by adopting these tactics and frame of mind, I can avoid burnout and maintain a higher level of joy and gratitude.
This was a quick but impactful read. Fletcher is a great writer, extremely qualified, and has an impressive resume. I connected with her on a personal level through motherhood and appreciated that she owned her mistakes, fessed up to failures, and recognized that it won't be easy but it will be worth it.
