thanks to netgalley & penguin group for the free earc in exchange for a fair and honest review!
i was very pleasantly surprised with the caliber of this book. while i cannot - and probably never will - get behind ross and devroe as a couple (i find him fairly controlling/savior complex-y), i think ross' character development is some of the best i've read in a while. this book was very entertaining in a simplistic manner, allowing me to relax into the story a lot.
kyung-soon, taiyo, mylo, noelia, and all the other returning characters were really great. i love coming-of-age elements in non-high school settings, so this was a really nice read.
read this if you want: something with literally no philosophical subtext, something interesting yet comforting, really cool characters, and thievery.
Thank you so much Penguin Teen for my first ever Netgalley ARC!!
Heist Royale was a very thrilling adventure. It took Thieves’ Gambit, the first book, to the next level. I especially thought the second heist was the most intricate and well played, even though it had a surprising twist at the end.
I love the character development that Ross went through! The friendships she made were the best. She finally got to experience the world that she had been missing and yearning for from the island.
By the end, the big question that had me wondering throughout the book was finally answered, and definitely not what I thought it was. I knew it had to have had something to do with Ross since she’s the main character, but I thought it was going to go a different route. I’m glad it concluded with a happier ending than what my overthinking brain believed it would be. This was a very fun read and I can’t wait to see what Kayvion Lewis has planned for her next book!!
I greatly enjoyed Thieves' Gambit, and Heist Royale, the sequel, did not disappoint! There were twists and turns, backstabbing and betrayal, and the reader will be on the edge of their seat waiting to see what happens next! Ross is working for the organization in order to fulfill her contract, when she gets pulled into some petty infighting between the Count and a new mysterious figure, the Baron. Since both want to lead the organization, a new gambit is hosted with even higher stakes challenges. Rather than stealing priceless artifacts from the museum, the competitors are tasked to steal secrets, assassination tapes, and other even harder to find items. Although Devroe and Ross have been more or less peacefully working together after the Gambit (what's a few frame jobs between friends?), the two are split with Kyung-Soon and Diana Abara joining Devroe and Noelia and Milo joining Ross. From perilous high stakes chases across the ice to a dodgy casino heist to a break in on a hard to reach island, the action never stops. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to fans of action adventure with a bit of teenage drama sprinkled in.
A great continuation to the Thieve's Gambit, Heist Royale follows Ross Quest in her ongoing interactions with the organization, her family and her friends. We jump right into the action, and it doesn't stop through the whole book. I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the first, I think because the 2nd half felt a little rushed and abrupt. But overall, I appreciated that this book maintained the story from the previous one but was unique enough to not feel like a repeat of the first.
Thank you to #Netgalley and #PenguinGroup and #NancyPaulsenBooks for a free copy of #HeistRoyale by Kayvion Lewis. All opinions are my own.
5 ⭐’s a fantastically fun sequel to Thieves Gambit! I loved TG and had high hopes for the sequel and not only did it not disappoint, it surpassed my expectations.
First let's just get past the plausibility of a Teenage Ocean's Eleven/Mission Impossible and all the other little things we have to suspend our disbelief over ok, we’re having fun here and in this well crafted world they can do anything!
While this is a fun fast paced thrill, it's also beautifully written especially when it comes to the characters.
I again loved them, Lewis gives us just enough of everything without any of it being too much. The romance between Devroe and Ross, the representation, exploring family bonds and cracks, ridiculous spy games, friendships and self reflection…all of it was great.
Devroe is a fantastic character with fantastic character. I loved him, I loved how the friends showed up for each other, communicated, stood for what they believed in even when they disagreed. I loved Ross and how she handled her situation with her mother.
I think I remember TG was optioned to a movie and I am SO excited to see who plays these characters and this story come to life further. I hope to see more of Ross & the gang soon! I also cannot wait to see what other stories Lewis has in store for us. I will absolutely be buying a hardcopy of this when it comes out November 2024.
I was so lucky to receive the option to read this eARC from NetGalley, Penguin Books, and Kayvion Lewis in exchange for a fair and honest review, which this easily is. Thank you, I was dying to read this sequel and was so excited when I was approved, and even more so when the book turned out to be amazing!
Loved this book/series. It is amazing! You will be surprised around every corner. Great characters. I definitely recommend this book and author all day long

Perfect continuation from the first book! The MC had some great character growth too
The heists were action packed and higher stakes I can’t wait to read the next one
This was a great second book and we got to see some growth for our main character as well as more interactions with her new friends. The action was great and I enjoyed the heists just as much as the first book, which often isn't the case. Can't wait for the next one, these are very readable and fun.
Kindly received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was a 5 star read!! I enjoyed this awesome read from start to finsh. Most definitely recommending this to all my book friends!
I was given this book in return for an honest review.
Book two! Pretty much as good as book one. Ross and Friends get caught up in a new game to try and save her family from the clutches of the evil Diane.
Getting caught up in a plot to dethrone Count. Ross thinks it's inevitable with current and potential leadership being so petty and caught up in their own drama.
Ross learns to do things her own way. That trying to be her mother's shadow may not be the best course is action for her.
Taking in 3 tasks to turn the tides in her favor. Or will she do things her own way.
We still have continual growth from our MC while still loving her gang of misfits. New scenarios play out with deception and lies around every corner (maybe). Still loved this story and the development of friendships. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A definite read
This follow up to thieves gambit was amazing. Right off the bat there was action happening and there plot was moving. Never a dull moment. I liked the initial twist of the team “battle” I didn’t really expect that and was wondering f what direction the story would take after the first novel.
Six months after the events of Thieves' Gambit, Ross Quest is working for the mysterious organization with her almost boyfriend, Devroe.
But before long a power-struggle between leaders pulls Ross, Devroe, and several of their friends into a new, deadly game that could determine all of their fates.
I actually enjoyed this book considerably more than the first one. This book gave the characters more of a chance to shine and connect with the reader. I loved getting to see all of them grow from the first book.
Lewis definitely put a lot of love and research into this book and it shows.
I love this sequel to thieves' gambit. I like that it has some of the same characters but adds layers to them and adds some new players into the mix. I really enjoyed the casino themed chapters. Really reminded me of Oceans 13. Great book!!
The sequel doesn't always live up to the original, but Heist Royale by Kayvion Lewis avoids that trap will ease!
I sped through this follow up to Thieves' Gambit, which picks up in the middle of the action 6 months after the events of the first book. [Spoilers ahead for the first book, but it's unavoidable. And also in the description of Heist Royale itself.] We're once again following Ross Quest as she navigates working her year for the mysterious Organization, pulling heist jobs alongside her former friend turned possible nemesis, Devroe. All the favorite side characters from the first book are back, along with a few new faces and, of course, a brand new Gambit with a twist.
The scene setting in this is fantastic, we hop from New Orleans during Mardi Gras to a Monte Carlo casino and more, and it's such a fun adventure. You can really picture the world through Lewis' writing, without it being overwritten or flowery. As a plot driven reader, I appreciate this style, where the scene is described in a way that moves the action forward. I also thought there was great character development in this story, especially in terms of the MC. She really evolves in figuring out her relationships, very much in the way a sheltered teenager who has friends for the first time would.
Fans of Thieves' Gambit will be pleased with the progression of the storyline in this sequel, definitely pick it up if you're a fan. The author was a youth services librarian and it shows - she knows what her audience wants. 4 to 4.5 stars. I'll keep reading as many heist related books as Ms. Lewis wants to write!
True to the title, this is a YA heist/thriller book, picking up shortly after where Thieves Gambit left off. This was a good sequel, certain scenes having raised stakes. I loved the whole casino scene and the twist at the end.
I absolutely loved this second book. The characters had good development, the plot kept me on my toes, and the writing was great. I found myself staying up late to see how the story played out. The plot twists in the middle were not predictable however, the end was but I didn’t mind that at all. Overall, great book and if a third comes out I’ll be sure to read it as soon as I can get my hands on it.
I've been waiting for this book ever since I finished Thieves Gambit last year and oh my god it did not disappoint, I absolutely adored seeing more of Ross's friendships especially with Noelia and Mylo (and some other fun characters 🤭) This book was brimming with action and packed with hilarious moments. Watching Ross realize that she can't be like her mother was so heartwarming and I felt it was needed especially after her starting to realize it in Thieves Gambit I couldn't put it down for even a minute, and now I'm already craving more. While Lewis wrapped up the book in a satisfying way, I just can't bear to say goodbye to these characters.
Thank you Penguin Teen for a Physical copy of this book, all opinions are my own
Big thank you NetGalley and to the publisher for the chance to review this book pre-release. Heist Royale was an EXCELLENT follow up to the Thieves' Gambit. I thought the sequel was just as strong as it's predecessor, and still just as fresh and unique. Auto-buy author for me for sure! A more formal review will be available on my IG/TikTok and Goodreads.
Pleaseeee tell me this series will continue on?! I could literally keep reading different heists that this crew pulls off over and over again lol. Heist Royale picks up six months after the events of Thieves’ Gambit and was just as fun and explosive! I love the pretty much every single character and the mission impossibles that they usually succeed in. The near ending I didn’t see coming tbh but I feel like it was wrapped up too perfectly? So I’m not sure if there will be a sequel but I’d most definitely read more books in this series!
If you like spy movies/books, high stakes, mission impossible, lovable characters each with their own motives and just overall fun reads, the Thieves’ Gambit series is perfect for you.
I loved the story, the world building and meeting the different characters. I felt completely immersed in the story and couldn't stop reading it.
