I love Eric Dowdle jigsaw puzzles, so think this would also be a cool coloring book. It's hard to evaluate a coloring book online, but I'd consider buying it if I liked to color and saw it in a store.
Thanks to Quarto Publishing and NetGalley for providing an advance review copy of this book.
A very nice coloring book. Great images of the National Parks. Not for beginners but delightful for a more advanced coloring addict.
Love the pictures of the National Parks! After coloring, they are great to frame and hang. Wonderful work
The art in this coloring book is absolutely gorgeous! It was cool having the full color art piece next to the color-in-able page for some inspiration while also letting you use your creativity. The book included little snippets of information about the parks depicted in the scenes, which I appreciated. I also liked that the mix of nature-focused parks and historical parks varied the style of scene, so it wasn't all mountains and forest scenes. This would be a fun book to take to the parks and color while visiting to document your visit!
I think I liked the zoomed in, smaller scenes a bit better than the landscape/cityscape style scenes, because you could be a bit more creative with it, especially with the patterns that were included in some of the elements.
This book is perfect for budding artists or as a mindfulness activity! It would also make a great memory prompt or inspire a bucket list of places to visit. Each page has many details to color and tells interesting facts about the location. It will take a long time to color each page, so it is better for teenage or adult use. I like that the original painting is included to give hints of which colors to use. I also like that you can use colored pencils, markers, or gel pens to color to your heart's content. I have visited eleven National Parks featured in the book and look forward to coloring my memories.
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
I enjoy doing Dowdle puzzles and watching Eric’s show on the Magnolia channel, so this is a neat addition to the Dowdle line.
I really enjoyed the illustrations of this book and do plan on purchasing a print copy!
Thank You NetGalley for allowing me to preview this book.
This is a beautiful coloring book about national parks. It includes interesting facts and lovely images to color.
As a lover of both coloring books and National Parks, this was a great book to pick up! I really enjoyed that each section had information about the national park it corresponded to. The artwork was also in very cool designs that had lots of small shapes in them similar to certain tribal art or stained glass. There was good variation between animals and landscape pictures. I think the target audience for this would be teens and up, but any age could certainly enjoy coloring these pictures.
Like a lot of people, I have admired and enjoyed Eric Dowdle’s artwork in other creative forms; specifically, both full and mini sized puzzles. So, naturally, a coloring book of his work was right up my alley! Really enjoyed this ARC and how it permits the reader to engage in their own expression of creativity, while having a frame of reference in the original work… also, really appreciated the little nuggets of info and facts accompanying the different landmarks and locations depicted. Many thanks to the author/artist, NetGalley, and publisher for the opportunity to review this ARC!
I wasn’t familiar with Eric Dowdle’s art, but I like colorful folk art and I love to color, so I was delighted to receive an electronic review copy of this coloring book. This book features iconic imagery of national parks and historic sites from across the United States. I counted 50 line art pages to color, many with the full-color reference art on the facing page so you can see how the artist originally colored the image. I love the artist’s style and enjoyed learning a little bit about the various locations. Some of the images brought back fond memories of places I have visited, and some made me long to travel to new places.
I recommend this book for adults or teens who enjoy coloring, like folk art, and have an interest in travel. The coloring pages are fairly complex and may be challenging if you don’t already have some experience with adult coloring books.
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group and Walter Foster Publishing for providing me with an eARC through NetGalley. I volunteered to provide an honest review.
National Parks are very popular right now as well as adult coloring. So this combines those two things beautifully. This book has very detailed intricate drawings that can be colored. There is a color representation on one side the drawing to be colored on the other. There is a brief description of the National Park under the colored drawing. There are some cities and historical sites in the book as well. Such as Bar Harbor city and the Statue of Liberty. Not all National Parks are included but most of the popular ones are such as Arches, Glacier, Grand Canyon, and Yellowstone. This would be a great book to have to color while on your way to visit a National Park.
This coloring book gives you not only the sketch of the location but shading guides as well. If you’re someone who does not feel comfortable adding your own shadows and shading, these guide lines will be very helpful. This book is such a fun idea if you’re traveling this summer to the National Park, bring this along!
Thank you for the eARC!
To call this a colouring book, is a misnomer I think. It is a beautiful art book which allows you to try your hand at achieving the artistry and level of detail that Mr Dowdle puts into his remarkable drawings.
There are line drawings of each of the national parks plus extras of some specific features. Then there are full colour examples of Mr Dowdle’s finished piece. This allows you to enjoy his skill and colourful rendition, then either have a go with his palette or go mad and choose your own colours.
As a Brit, I’m unfamiliar with many of the parks although I’ve heard of quite a few of them. I’m looking forward to getting a hard copy of this when it’s released to see what I can achieve with the creator’s guidance, his colour ideas, and my trusty watercolour pencils.
I was given a copy of this book by NetGalley
This might be my favourite of all the colouring books I've seen by Eric Dowdle (and I've loved them all!) As ever I love the style of the illustrations and the inclusion of facts about each national park. The coloured inspiration for each location really evokes each parks unique atmosphere and it was so fun to learn new facts about each park from the little facts included. I can't wait to buy the physical copy of this.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.
Perfect for those who love travel and coloring! Eric Dowdle is famous for his folk-art style and now, many of those beautiful pictures are available as a coloring page. These are ideal for those who appreciate a lot of detail. There are 40 pictures from various National Parks. Each picture includes people enjoying the moment, bringing the picture to life beyond the scenic view. The original picture is provided in color, for those who enjoy a reference. A few of the locations provide an extra page or two for coloring, but most are a singular picture.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.

This is amazing! I love the Dowdle puzzles and it’s so cool to have them in coloring format. I love how they have the painting as well so you can reference it if you want to use similar colors or you can just fill it in how you please. I also loved the little snippets about each of the parks. You could also use it as a bucket list and color them in once you’ve visited the park.
I love the variety in this coloring book. It covers some big parks, but also some lesser know historical sites that are part of the park system. There's a lot of detail in the pictures, I like it in some of them, but all the people in the Arches picture really turned me off. To me, that's not what that park is about and this highlighted how busy some of the parks have become. The Independence Hall picture looked like a super fun picture to me though. Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for a review copy of this coloring book.
This is not a coloring book for little ones; the designs are way too tiny and intricate for that. However, this is a great book for older kids and adults who enjoy spending time with a coloring book.
In addition to the pictures to color, there is some information about each of the parks and one colored in picture. These pictures are quite appealing.
Recommended for those who enjoy this pastime. I think that I would like a hard copy.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for this title. All opinions are my own.
