I really loved this coloring book and all its fun facts and details makes me want to visit some of the places. I am going to get this book and sink some coloring pencils in it.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this book
This is a magnificent coloring book for mature colorists. Many of the most famous national park are depicted. I love that there's a full color picture for many of the parks. These images with full color, and the associated image to be colored are more realistic, Although some of the images may be from an earlier time. And for some of the parks, on the next pages there are more fanciful images.
For example, for Yosemite National Park, there is a scenic image in full color, and the exact picture, outlined, and ready for coloring. The women in the picture have hats and parasols, cars are historic.
On the next page, there are even more fanciful images of bears, rocks, and scenery. and another of a couple in a row boat and scenery, but the images have non-natural patterns in them that are really fun to be creative with. Color any way your creativity takes you..
These images are too intricate for young children, but they present a lot of fun and relaxation because they will take time to complete.
I am a big Eric Dowdle fan and have well over 100 of his jigsaw puzzles featuring his art. I gladly took advantage of seeing a digital copy of his coloring book. The original artwork is shown in color and then there is a line drawing of the art work to be colored. Dowdle’s style of folk art is very detailed. This is not a coloring book for children. It is more for adults probably using coloring pencils. An extra enjoyment for me is that I have been to all of the sites selected for this book. The title isn’t totally correct as a few locations are not National Parks. For example, Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown and Lake Powell (Utah) are not NPs. I would not purchase this in a digital format. But for the person who enjoys relaxing by coloring or enjoys Dowdle art this is a fun book.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!
This a beautifully drawn coloring book by Eric Dowdle. Each picture was like taking a walk through the history of each national park. I enjoyed seeing national parks I have been to featured in this book. It's a wonderful book for adults and young teens.
Holy cats, this art style does not translate well into coloring book form. The pages to be colored in made me feel dizzy. Is it careless computer rendering of line art or a bad idea that never should have been sent to print? Not sure. . .
This was incredibly detailed and beautiful. I can't wait to purchase a copy to actually use. I will be sure to look at the publisher's other coloring books for future purchases.
This coloring book is very cute. The original paintings are gorgeous and very detailed. Next to them is the blank version to color. Because the designs are so intricate this is definitely a coloring book for an older audience. Accompaning each picture and chosen National Park are a few sentences of information about the location. This book will be a delight to anyone who likes to color, whether they are familiar with the artist or not.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
What a beautiful, yet really refreshing colouring book. The designs are original, detailed and truly charming. There are some lovely scenes, and a variety of interesting landscapes to colour. Would have preferred a hard copy to read and review properly, as the illustrations are stunning! I like that you can follow the guide, and copy their colouring suggestions, or completely do your own thing.
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster and Netgalley for an eARC of this book to read and review.
This was so pretty to use on my phone and it would make an amazing physical gift. Lots of beautiful National parks and I was blown away by the details in this colouring in pages.
This coloring book combines two things I love, Dowdle art and national parks! I have been putting together Dowdle puzzles for years, so when I saw he had coloring books coming out; I knew I needed to check them out. This book will take a long time to color. Each page has so much detail. You will definitely get your money’s worth with this coloring book.
I thought that the name was familiar when I saw this, and then when I got to the actual book, I realized that Dowdle is the person who designs all of those puzzles. I don't have many by him, but I do have the Costco one .... And it was fun to do and so colourful and bright. So, of course, the illustrations that go with each park were amazing and so detailed. There are so many things to see and find in each one. The information about the parks was well balanced. Not too much when your main goal is to really settle in and colour. I will say that, for me, the pages that were the most interesting as a colouring book page were the ones that were done specifically for the book. Unfortunately, those were also the pages that were less frequent and that gave up a chunk of their real estate to a bit more information on a given park.
I found that the colouring pages for each of the illustrations that Dowdle shares are not as detailed and, for me, a bit harder to really embrace and colour the way that I would like in a colouring book. More outlines and less detail than in the originals, and for me, more of a challenge to really colour in a way that would give me the detail I crave. That being said, I will complement the fact that every line was closed so that, if you are colouring, other than the border items, you have no spots where you are stuck wondering where one element ends and the next begins.
I do think that this will still work as a colouring book, because there are a lot of details which means lots of different colours to incorporate and choose from. And a lot less of those parts where you are colouring endless sky or grass.
All in all, I think it's a decent colouring book and I certainly enjoy the originals. It would be one of those colouring books that you colour and keep.
Colouring books are such a fantastic relaxation tool and this colouring book would be no exception.
Within the book you are provided with the original artwork of the national park, there is also some trivia around the area depicted in the picture. You are then provided with your very own intricate blank copy to colour in.
This book would provide hours and hours of entertainment and allow your creative side to flourish.
I feel like once you start these colouring books you’ll want the full series.
The illustrations in this colouring book are absolutely stunning and you would definitely get your moneys worth as the designs are very detailed so each page would take hours to fill in. I liked that the original artwork is on the left hand side of the page for inspiration which takes the stress out of choosing which colour to use.
The only complaint I would have is that the designs are too intricate for my taste so I could definitely see myself getting bored and giving up before finishing a page however this is purely personal preference.
I love national parks and I love coloring books, and I really love this style. This amazing coloring books has detailed drawings of some of the beautiful national parks in the US, such as Grand Canyon , Sequoia and Grand Canyon. There is so much detail and you can see how people interact with the areas.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me preview this fantastic coloring book
