This is the 5th entry in the Clay Edison series, though I think you could read this as a standalone.

Clay Edison, a former coroner turned PI, is called into assist a young man whose grandmother just died and left him to manage the estate. As he's working through this, he finds a payment being made to someone he can't identity. As Clay researches, he discovers they were made to a firm for the purchase of piece of sea front land on the CA shore. This sets him off on a case that gets increasingly dangerous.

Interesting story. It was a little slow for me at first, but picked up after the 35% mark. By the time you get to the end, you'll be flying through the pages.

Another solid entry in the Edison series.

another incredible novel from team kellerman at the start of this book you are lead to believe it is just a case of an elderly woman being taken advantage of what follows is a mystery of twists and turns keeping the reader rapt until the end filled with a fascinating cast of characters

Really good story with deep intrigue and extremely interesting characters.
Clay Edison is busy with his second career as a P.I. having lost his first
job with the Coroner's office and is doing okay when he is visited by
a referral from a friend. It seems his prospective new client's grandmother
recently died and as the executor of her estate, he is busy trying to sort out
and understand the financial pieces of her life, through a myriad of paper
receipts and logs. He discovers that she has neem paying a monthly fee for
years and years to a company with initials only. He wants clay to track down the
company and find out what she was paying for.
And off it goes.
Clay travels to a barely accessible coastal city in the CA wilderness that is home
to the strangest group of characters he ever met. A Shangri-la of
home lots touted to be a seaside community is actually a bunch of unfinished lots
and unpaved roads; with very strange and somewhat sinister characters living there.
As he investigates what is really going, on, the story takes off with becomes a fast flipping
page read as you hurry to discover what the next weird happening will be.
No one in this isolated, self policed area actually seems to be who they claim to be.
Characters are very well defined with all their varied eccentricities and secrets and the story moves along at a fast but steady clip.
Hope Clay's cases continue.

I’ve read — and loved — every Jonathan Kellerman book, but this collaboration with his son Jesse was a surprise treat.

Clay Edison is a great character, and the storyline is engaging and propulsive. I will definitely be on the lookout for future novels by this dynamic duo. Highly recommended. #TheLostCoast #NetGalley #SaltMarshAuthorSeries

A new Clay Edison thriller. We picked up with Clay a year after he lost his job.
Doing PI work now, he receives a request to investigate a very old fraud case.

The case is intriguing and leads him to a group of people living in a remote wilderness area. They are not fond of outsiders and the questions Clay is asking aren’t welcome either.

This is such a good suspense tale! It is definitely a page turner. These two do make a great writing team.

Private investigator Clay Edison takes center stage in this novel from the father-son team of Jonathan and Jesse Kellerman. Tasked with unraveling the mystery behind his client’s grandmother's mysterious payments to an unidentified individual, Clay finds himself navigating the murky waters of northern California's real estate dealings. The story unfolds swiftly, with well-developed characters and a plot that keeps the reader engaged. Overall, this thriller offers an enjoyable read, leaving me eager for the next installment from this talented writing duo. Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and author, for an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

I love, love, love this series!! Clay Edison is just the character you want to cheer for. Witty, sarcastic, yet so smart. Whenever I read these books, I can't put it down until I'm finished!! Great characters, ones you love and ones you despise. Highly recommend!

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC.

The Lost Coast by Jonathan and Jesse Kellerman is my first read of this father and son author team, although I’ve read and reviewed many Jonathan Kellerman ‘s books. It’s certainly different than the Jonathan Kellerman books that I’m familiar with, different characters and a very different type of plot. This one is actually the fifth novel in the Clay Edison series. Edison is a private investigator who had involuntarily left the police force a year before for reasons that were not fully explained. Edison was approached by a former client about digging into a land deal on the coast in northern California which appeared to be fraudulent. What unfolded was a carefully designed plan to bilk seniors out of their retirement savings, as they were being sold land that never had a chance of being worth the asking prices and appreciating as promised. There’s an assortment of characters in Swann’s Flat, but that also included some disgruntled people who wanted their money back and others who just wanted to be left alone.

I must say that this was not my favorite Kellerman novel although it sort of held my interest to the end. I read it out of a sort of reader-loyalty thing, but I probably won’t stay with the series unless the books get a bit better.

I have been a devoted Jonathan Kellerman since his first book and have read every book. I was curious how Jonathan Kellerman and his son Jesse would blend. The Lost Coast was outstanding. I could not put it down. The story line was exciting and the main character, Clay was well defined and believable. This mystery/thriller was filled with interesting characters and a great deal of intensity. Don’t miss this one! Now I’m must happily go back to read the others in this series. Thank you to Jonathan and Jesse Kellerman for this excellent book and to NetGalley for the Advanced Copy..

A good, well written story. I found the book to be put together in a tight adventure. Likeable characters, and a good plot.

I would read other offerings by the Kellerman's

In the fifth installment of the Clay Edison series, "The Lost Coast" plunges readers into the depths of a mystery as dense and impenetrable as the California wilderness it is set in. The father-son duo, Jonathan and Jesse Kellerman, once again demonstrate their prowess in crafting a thriller that is both intellectually stimulating and emotionally gripping.

The novel opens with Clay Edison, a former coroner turned private investigator, who is grappling with the remnants of his past life and career. When a seemingly straightforward fraud case lands on his desk, Clay is thrust into a decades-old conspiracy that is as twisted as the gnarled trees of the remote town where the story unfolds.

The Kellermans' writing is sharp and evocative, painting a vivid picture of a community shrouded in secrecy and a landscape that is both beautiful and menacing. The narrative is propelled by a cast of characters who are richly drawn and complex, each with their own hidden motives and turbulent histories.

What sets "The Lost Coast" apart is its ability to weave together themes of isolation, the human psyche, and the often-blurred lines between good and evil. The suspense is palpable, building steadily towards a climax that is both unexpected and satisfying.

The Kellermans have once again delivered a novel that is a testament to their skill in the genre. "The Lost Coast" is a thrilling ride that not only provides the chills and thrills expected of a top-notch mystery but also offers a profound commentary on the nature of truth and redemption.

"The Lost Coast" is a compelling addition to the Clay Edison series that is sure to resonate with fans of mysteries.

Clay Edison was previously a county coroner, now he works as a private investigator. He is hired to look into the estate of his client’s grandmother. The client had noticed regular payments to an unknown person and/or business. Clay follows the few leads he can find and is soon in the middle of a number of different things going on - including fraud and a missing person. Clay also teams up with another PI at one point to fully investigate. Regina, the other PI offers a good contrast to Clay - I really enjoyed their partnership. The characters for the most part were well done. The story moved along at a good pace and was fairly suspenseful. I thought it only dragged in a couple of places. Apparently this is the 5th in the Clay Edison series but it can be read without having read the previous books. I thought it was a very good book and recommend reading it. I give it 4 stars out of 5.

Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for this digital ARC in exchange for my honest review. The book is set to be published on August 6, 2024.

I have always loved Jonathan Kellerman’s books. This might be my least favorite but it is, nonetheless, a good read. Quite different from the others.

Clay Edison is hired by a man who has just inherited his late grandmother’s estate and found out that she had been writing monthly checks to an unknown source. Clay discovers that the grandmother had been part of a decades old scheme where vulnerable people believed they were buying valuable land in the remote wilderness of the California Coast site unseen. Clay sets out to find who is behind the scams, by pretending he is interested in buying a parcel of land in Swann’s Flat, only trouble is that there are only eight residents who live there and they don’t want their secrets revealed and will do just about anything to keep them, including murder.

A good read, though oddly enough I find it hard to remember the plot or the characters. I'm tempted to click on (not giving feedback," except that I really did enjoy the book.

The lost coast refers to a remote area of Northern California where the events of this novel take place. It all starts with a series of small monthly checks that the PI character is asked to investigate. He finds a vast criminal enterprise that is based on a series of fraudulent real estate transactions. That may sound arcane and tame but it drives the plot forward and the characters behind the scheme are interesting villains. My attention did wane at a few points but the investigators and the small town at the center of all of this is a nice combination, and how they figure and unravel the criminal enterprise makes for an interesting story.

,The Lost Coast started. rather slowly. It definitely picked up speed as the.story progressed. The characters were believable. The main character, Clay Edison once again found a boondoggle that required his involvement. This time it was real estate bought and sold many times over.

Clay Edison, former coroner, lost his job and is now working as a PI, He's working on a fraud case for a client who thinks his grandmother was defrauded in a land deal. It takes him to the remote California wilderness where the population is sparse and strange. They don't like him snooping around and asking questions. This book gets better as it goes along, and the ending ties everything up neatly.
