Niall and Kara work to prove a friend's innocence when her patron/lover is poisoned. Given how much the victim was loathed, there are a lot of possible suspects. The final solution is cleverly explained and a few loose ends from previous novels are tied up. The author includes atmospheric details about life in 1850s London, and the relationship between Niall and Kara is fun to watch develop. Probably a series best read in order, as the author refers obliquely to events from previous books, but then the reader has the fun of getting to know Kara and Niall and a cast of recurring characters. Thanks to Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC.

Yet another outstanding entry into this author’s cozy mystery series, The Kier and Levett Mysteries. It has the perfect balance of mystery and romance and will keep you glued to your chair throughout. If you read the last book, you will know there was a shocking revelation about Niall’s parentage. Well, there is a shocking revelation in this book as well, but I won’t tell you what it is – you’ll just have to read it to see.

Josie Lowe, who helped save Niall’s bacon when he was captured by those nasty League men weeks ago, now needs saving. Josie’s riveting voice has been pulling patrons into the Rogues Hideaway for a while now and when she sings, the audience is rapt. They love her, and her wealthy patron, Mr. Frederick Cole, attends every performance. However, things change swiftly when, directly after her performance, Mr. Cole dies of poisoning and Josie is arrested for his murder.

With his ruthless business practices, Mr. Cole had no shortage of enemies, but would they be willing to kill? One of them must have because it surely wasn’t Josie. Could it be the wife who isn’t grieving at all? Perhaps it was the business partners whom he had made insanely rich, but who wanted more/different things? Could it be his illegitimate son who owns the Rogues Hideaway? With his acerbic personality, it could be anyone in London!

Kara and Niall have their work cut out for them when it comes to solving the mystery – but what of their romance? Well, Kara is ready to go forward, but Niall is still dragging his feet. Not that he doesn’t love Kara and wants to marry her – NO – it is that after the revelations about his parentage, he is afraid there may be reprisals against him and he doesn’t want anyone coming after Kara. So, no wedding in this book and I’m beginning to think there is a ‘no wedding’ theme here. 😊 I’m sure they’ll marry – I’m just not sure when. Do you realize Kara will become Kara Kier when they marry? Try saying that name quickly several times without putting a smile on your face. 😊 It sort of sounds medicinal, doesn't it? :)

I would love it if this became a long-running series, but that is up to the author and the publisher. I do wish they would get on with the wedding though as I would love to see them work on cases as a married couple and see how the dynamics of that relationship will work. I’d also like to see some stories where Niall’s past isn’t an issue woven throughout. However – none of that keeps me from absolutely loving the series. The writing is excellent, the mystery is engrossing and will keep you guessing, and we get to know the characters better and better with each new entry. I can hardly wait for the next book in the series – Carnage From The Cursed Crown. Oh! Doesn’t that sound exciting?

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I loved this book! I love historical romance books and this one did not disappoint. The romance was very well written and I absolutely loved the banter.

"Revenge in the rogue's hideaway" is the fourth book in the Kier and Levett mystery series and starts right in the aftermath of the revelation of Niall's parentage.

In the middle of his many doubts about the future, Kara and Niall are called to investigate on a suspicious murder that involves their friend Josie.

Up until the end I was not sure about the real culprit or the reason of the murder, the book is so well thought out.

As per the previous book of the series, I liked the main characters and the supporting ones, which were well crafted and had a compelling story.

Thanks to the author and the publisher for providing me with an ARC.

I’ve enjoyed this series and read all of them, but I had trouble remembering some of the details. If you haven’t read the earlier books, I don’t know that you would have any idea of what is going on. Authors don’t need to retell the whole plots of their earlier books, but just assuming that readers remember all the characters and intricacies of previous stories seems rather presumptuous. Eventually, some of the details came back to me, but it was still irritating and took away from my enjoyment of the book.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

Kara and Niall are back with another investigation! I almost wish read the first three books in this series again because while the story does stand alone and there is enough recapping to bring a new reader up to speed, I think this would be even more delightful if I was coming directly from the third book. Someone Kara and Niall encountered in a previous book has been accused of poisoning a man and they set out to find out what really happened. At the same time, someone seems to be stalking Niall and that' may be related to revelations about his mother (and grandfather) that came in the last book).

This is the first book that has Kara and Niall officially working as a couple (they're engaged now), so there are some lovely little moments between them as well as some nice scenes with the little street urchin they've taken in. We get some nice scenes with secondary characters, which makes the "found family" aspect of this story very satisfying. There's a spectacular twist at the end which will impact Kara and Niall's future and I was honestly surprised by the choices made - in a good way! I can't wait to see what comes next.

If there's anything I wish was different here, it's that Deb Marlowe made us suffer a little more with scenes where there's some angst. There's one is particular towards the end where she could have really devastated us by making Niall suffer...but that's just a personal love of angst that is influencing me!

The fourth in the excellent Kier and Levett series has more drama and intrigue along with some interesting developments in our main characters’ private lives. Kara, Niall, and friends get drawn into the murder of a wealthy businessman when a friend is suspected, and the crime has them looking into music halls, business deals, and family secrets. Niall’s own secrets continue to simmer in the background and help drive some of the mystery. As always, this one is a well-written page turner with a sweet romantic relationship at its core. I’m somewhat anxiously awaiting the next one given the development of the last few pages. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy. All views are entirely my own.

I have not read any of the other books but I had no issue jumping into this book and following a long. I was hoping for a mystery with a little romance and that is just what I got. I liked both Niall and Kara and how they worked together. Just like another book I recently read, we got the investigation from both main characters point of view which I really liked. I did think it was funny how often we were essentially told how hot both the main characters were. I am definitely gonna go back and read the previous books in this series. The mystery was pretty interesting the who and why made sense. This felt pretty cozy mystery wise which add to my liking of it. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review

Niall and Kara are again teaming up, this time to clear their friend Josie when she is accused of murder. There are many suspects to uncover. As for Niall and his fiancée Kara, there always seems to be a reason to delay their wedding. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.
