Thank you to NetGalley, Jen Williams & Dreamscape Media for audio arc in exchange for an honest review.
The cover caught my attention immediately. It's very simple but eye-catching; and the synopsis sounds right down my alley.
This was a solid 4-Stars.
Ashley, as both an adult and a child could see figures/ghosts/angels - she called them the "heedful ones." These heedful ones end up leading her to the body of a little boy who was brutally murdered and who the police have been in search of for a couple weeks. This both was just the latest in a string of child murders dubbed "The Gingerbread" murders due to the children's bellies being full of decadent foods that they consumed just prior to being killed. Now that she has found the body, the police turn to Ashley as a suspect, so she turns to a true crime podcaster, Freddie, to tell her story and help try to solve the gingerbread murders.
I love supernatural & paranormal, but I was really hoping there wouldn't be either in this story, but it was thrown in at the very end. I felt like that cheapened it a bit. Aside from that, it was quick-paced and compelling & I will definitely recommend it.
