Gave up on this book a few weeks before it came out to public, didn't realise it was apart of a series. Was also really bad, didn't make any kind of sense what so ever. Instantly went to my did not finish part of my bookshelf.
Hopefully others enjoy it more then me
A Missed Opportunity in Historical Fiction - 2 Stars
“Adiel and the Führer,” the fourth installment in the Project 613 series, presents a unique premise: the chance to alter history by preventing Hitler’s rise to power. While the concept is intriguing, the execution falls short of its potential.
The protagonist, Adiel Goldstein, is a German Jew with a comfortable life that’s soon to be disrupted by the rise of Hitler. The revelation that Adiel’s father is from the future and has failed in an attempt to assassinate Hitler sets the stage for a gripping narrative. However, the story’s pacing is inconsistent, and the characters lack depth, making it difficult to form a connection with them.
The novel’s exploration of the moral dilemmas associated with time travel and altering history is superficial at best. The opportunity to delve deeply into the psychological and ethical complexities is missed, leaving the reader wanting more.
Moreover, the dialogue often feels forced and unnatural, detracting from the authenticity of the historical setting. The narrative could have benefited from more research and attention to detail, which would have added a layer of richness to the world-building.
In conclusion, “Adiel and the Führer” is a book with a promising idea that unfortunately doesn’t deliver. It might appeal to fans of alternate history who are looking for a quick read, but those seeking a profound and thought-provoking experience may be disappointed
Adiel and the Fuhrer. I literally don’t know where to start with this. It starts very sedately and then in chapter 4 it just goes so heavily left and I can’t tell you why without spoiling the whole thing. Essentially just before the war, Adiel is a Jew just before the war who knows the tide is turning against his people and wants to stop it. Some of this book is quite silly and his daughter is almost comical until the brief moments where this story gets so dark and so utterly sad. The pacing is all over the place and there is an enormous chapter in the middle when all sorts of madness happens but the last 10% of the book is absolutely tragic. I wish I could tell you the twist because you absolutely won’t guess it. My take away from this is I don’t know this is insane.
I loved this book. Well written and with a very interesting plot. A different story for the story. Highly recommended.
This book was brilliant. So original. I did not see the early plot twist coming. I won't spoiler but it was a real gasp moment! A highly original story, full of what if's. There were a some shocking moments and some very sad ones. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to more from this author.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was curious diving into this book, with a premise like this one : What would you do if you had the chance to prevent the rise of Hitler?
A lot of historical fiction, a bit of fantasy, a bit of time travel this one a different read from my usual genres. I enjoyed it, it was quite fascinating to read!
This series is a doozy.
I call books like this one “What If”? books, when an author writes alternative circumstances for historical events, in the form of historical fiction. I like these types of novels, because they often really make the mind stretch from what it already knows with sharp twists and turns.
“Project 613” is an ongoing series; “Adiel” is #4. All the novels are stand-alones, but reading them in order does make them more interesting, I think.
*I received a digital copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.*
This was a thought provoking and emotional story.
This story follows Adiel who, in another life time, was Hitler. The story contains time travel and other elements which were interesting.
Little Kaia was a wonderful character and her spirit and personality was just amazing. I was so upset when I found out what happened to her.
I would definitely recommend.
Adiel Goldstein is an observant Jew living in Germany at the time of Hitler’s rise to power. One day, his daughter finds books hidden away by Adiel’s parents that literally rock him to his core, and change his life forever.
Part time travel and part alternative history, in Adiel and the Fuhrer Elyse Hoffman takes the concept of “what if the Holocaust could have been stopped”, and flips it on its head. This well done and well plotted novel is entertaining, fast paced, and an absolute pleasure to read.
Highly recommended.
My thanks to the publisher and to Netgalley for providing an ARC of the book.
I think this book had a really interesting concept and Elyse Hoffman's writing is well constructed and keeps the reading engaged throughout the novel.
