This is Grilled Cheese Mystery #4. I've read the entire series so far. Yet again, the mystery is compelling. An elderly woman, Octavia Gray. Is discovered by a young food delivery person with her head smashed in with a frying pan. The police are questioning him, and Carly investigates to help clear his name.
I enjoyed the mystery. The secondary characters are interesting, and I want to know more about them. It's Carly thst I don'tconnect with. Her thought patterns don'tring realistic. She doesn'tseem genuine. She is the least believable character in the book.
I love the recipes and the descriptionsof the sandwiches. If only Carly were as interesting and engaging.
Just like the comfort food of grilled cheese sandwiches, cozy mysteries are comfort reads. This one is no different - filled with delicious food, great friends, and of course a murder with lots of suspects. I've enjoyed this series a lot - starting with the creative twists on grilled cheese sandwiches. Carly is a good main character, and her relationship with Ari is sweet. And I LOVE that there isn't a love triangle (which is one common trope of cozy mysteries that I hate). We see lots of cute and not-so-cute senior citizen characters in this one also. I'd recommend this book and series to those who enjoy cozy mysteries. And to lovers of grilled cheese :)
I've really been enjoying this series... the Grilled Cheese Eatery is a nice twist on food cozies. This particular installment, however, wasn't my favorite. I found the resolution of the mystery/case to be too far fetched (although I did like that the victim had a bit of character redemption by the ending). Carly, the protagonist, was not my favorite this time around. She came across as defensive and sort of entitled (how dare the police chief tell her to stay out of the case, she fumed). Worth the read if you enjoy this series.
Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the review copy of this title.
I really enjoy this series and I have been reading it since the beginning. It is summer in Vermont. Ross a local student is doing deliveries for local restaurants. Most of his customers are senior citizens and he gets along with most of them except for one. When he goes to make a delivery and finds her dead he becomes a prime suspect and Carly investigates. The local police and all her friends warn her to stay away but she does not listen. I found Carly to be more abrasive and I did not like the way she treated her friends. The romantic sub plot moves along but I still have not warmed up to it. The mystery was OK and there were plenty of suspects. I was able to solve it. I still enjoy the small town setting and the characters. A new character was introduced and I look for word to reading more about her. The restaurant and the recipes all sound delicious as usual. Enjoy
What a super cute cosy mystery! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I haven't read the first ones in the series, but it didn't matter. The characters are all well thought out and by the end of the books they feel like friends. I will be reading more from this author as soon as possible.
Thanks to netgalley, the publisher and author for the chance to read this ARC.
This is the fourth book in the series and they keep getting better, The Grilled Cheese is a fast-moving book and a big mystery. Yummy cheese recipes. All the characters are amazing and fun to read. I am waiting for the next book of more surprises with Ari and Carly!!!
This was not a bad read, although I had one issue, and that was, the over-protectiveness of Carly’s friends, it was irritating. I mean, let’s get real here, Carly was an adult, besides that, it was an entertaining story. There was little romance with bells ringing, new friendships, and an unexpected ending, nice.
This is the first of Linda Reilly's books I've read, not realizing that this was book 4 of a series. However, that being said, this book was a light and easy read, and I loved the suspense of "whodunit" included with the setting of a small town grilled cheese restaurant. This book was well done and kept my attention throughout it. I appreciated the investigation piece, but also the relationships and inner workings of running a restaurant, which made it feel like I could actually experience it happening.
Thank you to NetGalley and Beyond the Page for the advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review.
Brie Careful What You Wish For is the fourth book in the Grilled Cheese Mystery series. I loved it as much as I loved all the others in the series. The main character, Carly, owns a grilled cheese eatery and all the talk of the different sandwiches is fun to read about. There are lots of great characters in the story and an adorable dog named Havarti. Carly gets involved in solving a murder to help her delivery guy who finds a dead body when he is delivering sandwiches. It's a good mystery, with great writing and likeable characters. I highly recommend and can't wait for the next book!

This is the fourth book in the grilled cheese series. I really enjoy this series. The characters are great. The mystery was good, and I always enjoy the recipes.
Book Review: Brie Careful What You Wish For by Linda Reilly
Rating: 3 Stars
When I picked up Brie Careful What You Wish For, I was immediately drawn in by the adorable cover. Isn’t it just the cutest? It set the perfect tone for what I hoped would be a delightful cozy mystery. Set against the backdrop of Balsam Dell, a small town where gossip travels faster than the summer heat, the story pivots around the shocking murder of a mean and quarrelsome woman. Most residents seem to think her demise was long overdue, but for Carly Hale, the local grilled cheese restaurant owner, it's more than just gossip—it’s a matter of defending her friend.
The plot unfolds with Carly’s delivery guy, Ross Baxter, being falsely accused of murder after he discovers the victim's lifeless body during a sandwich drop-off. Determined to clear his name, Carly dives into an investigation that reveals a tangled web of motives involving estranged family members and a past filled with broken marriages. Each twist and turn was well plotted, keeping me engaged and guessing until the end.
However, my experience with this book was a mixed bag. While I appreciated the charming setting of Balsam Dell, I found myself frustrated with Carly's character. In this installment, she came across as unlikable and obnoxious at times, which made it hard for me to root for her. I had previously enjoyed her character in the last book, but here I felt that her actions were more self-serving than heroic.
On a positive note, the mystery itself was well-crafted, with enough red herrings and suspects to keep me intrigued. The recipes at the end were an absolute highlight—YUM! They made me want to whip up some grilled cheese delights in my own kitchen.
In conclusion, Brie Careful What You Wish For offers a compelling mystery set in an inviting town filled with quirky characters. Despite my frustrations with Carly's character development, the engaging plot and delightful recipes made it a worthwhile read. I would give it a solid three stars—there's potential for improvement, but it still has its charm.

This book is the fourth in the series of Grilled Cheese Mystery. It's easy for new readers to catch up with this one, as Carly Hale, a widow of two years, moves to Balsam Dell, Vermont, and opens a grilled cheese restaurant. Carly's business is doing well, and she has made friends with her employees. On top of that, Carly partners with a young man named Ross who is delivering food to the elderly to raise money for college. However, things take a turn when Ross discovers a difficult customer's body when delivering her lunch. He then becomes the main suspect, and Carly is determined to find the real killer despite protests from her friends and the local police chief.
I loved every book in this entertaining grilled cheese cozy mystery series, and this one is no different. I can't wait to read more from this series.
While I read the first in this series, I somehow missed the next two. No matter, I started this one and was immediately drawn into this world and read the first half of the book in one sitting. Engaging with interesting characters. Plot kept me guessing and I missed figuring out the murderer even though I noticed the defining clue. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
4.3⭐
Brie Careful What You Wish For is the fourth cozy mystery in the Grilled Cheese Mysteries series. Carly Hale has hired Ross her new delivery person and everything is going well until he stumbles upon a dead body during a delivery. When he becomes one of the suspects, Carly takes it upon herself to investigate the murder until she clears his name.
I have enjoyed this series since I discovered it and this newest cozy mystery was a good addition. I enjoyed the setting of this series and the characters are a good crew. Carly has some great support as she works on these investigations she shouldn’t be getting into. The mystery took a few twists and turns throughout that I didn’t expect and it kept me on my toes. I have read the rest of this series, but I do think this could be read as a standalone without a problem. Overall this was an enjoyable read and even though it’s not my favorite cozy mystery series, it is always a solid one to return to. If you are a fan of cozy mysteries and grilled cheese, give this book a try! I look forward to seeing what comes next for Carly.
Thank you Netgalley and Beyond the Page for the ARC of this book. This was an honest review.
It is impossible to forget the characters who work at Amateur Sleuth's Carly's Grilled Cheese shop. Along with the delicious grilled cheese, the atmosphere of the shop alone makes it a very comforting place to return to. Carly doesn't think there is any harm in carefully questioning the victim's enemies to check motives and challenge their explanations to the point of being just a tad noisy in my opinion, but as her heart is in the right place, she will do anything to save the victim she knows is innocent. This was a heartbreaking conclusion that was nonetheless satisfying in its own way. Can't wait to read the next book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Beyond the Page Publishing for providing me the opportunity to review an ARC of this novel. All of the thoughts and the opinions expressed are my own.
Carly Hale has come back to her hometown and opened a grilled cheese shop. Since she has been home, she has “helped” the police solve several murders. This time, her young friend that runs the town’s delivery service has stumbled upon the murder of an elderly woman. Because of past encounters, he is on the suspect list, and of course Carly must help clear his name.
This book is typical of the cozy mystery genre. The punny titles and food references make it worth reading. However, I was expecting this book to reflect Christian values. It did not. The only standouts to me, as stated above, are the cool grill cheese sandwich references and the puns. I was not invested in the predictable plot.
I would recommend this book to people looking for mostly clean cozy mysteries. I would not recommend this book for anyone who is bothered by the idea of couples living together before marriage.
This series is a sweet and cozy series. Carly, the MC is likable, kind, and very relatable. The side characters are also easy to fall in love with and care about. I really enjoy this series, but I will say that this one was the least enjoyable of the series thus far. Now, that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it, it just didn't seem to have as much heart and or mystery as the others. I do like how this author handles the MC's romance, it's very minimal and doesn't take over the story. I think this one had too many players for me and the solution, seemed a tid bit far fetched. It still brought the delicious descriptions of cheesy goodness that I am all here for though! Enjoyable read
I honestly think this series just keeps getting better and better! Reilly has been able to develop a really solid cast of characters that’s actually changing, a significant challenge for most cozy series. The mystery itself was solidly plotted and went in an absolutely wild direction, which I thought was super fun. All in all, another delightful installment in a must read series.
Carly Hale has a new service, home delivery for seniors. The idea is a great one until a cranky customer is found murdered in her home. Carly's delivery person, Ross, becomes suspect #1. Carly has to find the real killer before they affect Carly and Ross in a deadly way!
The mystery is filled with "red herrings", I like the description of Balsam Dell and it's residents. Carly is smart,, kind and determined to help Ross. I made one of the grilled cheese recipes and it was delicious! A keep you guessing mystery and a delicious snack - you can't beat that combo!
I received an ARC from NetGalkey and the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Carly Hale is excited that local young man Ross Baxter has started his own delivery service, especially since it helps older people who can't get around. He's doing a great job but has recently started having a problem with one of his customers. Ross isn't one to just give up so he continues to deliver to her. When he finds her dead in her home during his next delivery to her he worries he will be looked at because of their conflict. Carly jumps in to investigate when it looks like Ross is the main suspect according to the police. She soon learns that there are several people from her past who had a problem with her. Now she just has to put the pieces she has learned together in a way that they will fit and reveal the killer. A great read in a series that I always look forward to reading.
