This book was very good. It was surprising! I was not prepared for who died at all but I couldn't put it down. I loved the mix of the summer, the sunshine and the mysteries! I was surprised quite a few times. Read it quickly & sad it's over! I loved Tracy & Waylon, Izzy & the cook!

Overall this was an interesting book but had an extremely slow start. I really liked that this story was told from several POVs and how the past and present were connected.
I loved the family dynamics of the Eddings and how all their dirty skeletons were finally reveled by Traci in the end. The twist was interesting but also somewhat predictable.
I enjoyed the narration by Kathleen McInerney but I do feel that since the characters were usually from different character's POVs there could have been a full cast narration.
The story presented an intriguing array of special characters, adding depth and uniqueness to the narrative. Despite its length, the plot remained captivating, holding my attention from beginning to end. While I didn't establish a personal connection with the story, I found myself immersed in its intricate details and compelling storyline. Each paragraph unfolded with a sense of purpose, weaving together various elements to create a rich tapestry of events. Although the characters felt distant at times, their development was carefully crafted, adding layers of complexity to the overall plot. Overall, it was a well-executed tale that offered an enjoyable and immersive reading experience.
I was not expecting the twists in this book!!! The plot was a little slow in the beginning but you have to set the world up so it is understandable. I thought the narration was perfect, and I enjoyed the different voices used for different characters.
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the audio ARC in exchange for my honest opinion! Summers at the Saint: I anticipated reading this book as I enjoy Mary Kay Andrews as an author; especially how she develops her characters, and this 400 page book was no exception. There are several POVs in Summers at the Saint. M.K.A. does a nice job of describing the beautiful hotel and its resort surroundings; I want to summer at a swanky, coastal, sandy pink resort like The Saint Cecilia Resort! From the look of the cover I expected a beach read and yet it ended up being so much more. There were a lot of unexpected twists, turns, and storylines to keep straight. I didn't anticipate a murder mystery added in, which made it all the more page turning as the story picked up its pace. MKAโs Summers at the Saint is set on the fictional Saint Cecilia Island along the Georgia Coast, and the Saint Cecilia Resort is a 5 star resort owned by the dysfunctional Eddings family. "Saints and Aints": The Saint Cecilia hotel itself has been in the Eddings family since the 1920โs and is the oldest resort on the Georgia coast. The Veranda is the main restaurant on the property and where many of the characters spend the majority of their time. If you have ever worked in a restaurant, you know there can be chaos! The resort is undergoing renovations, including a new staff dorm for employees, and the expansive Bluepointe (surrounding the resort), a relatively new housing development 5 years young. Bonaventure is the part of the island where the other half of the islanders live, and where a few of the characters, including Traci and Shannon, grew up. Traci Eddings is the main protagonist who marries into the Eddings dysfunction as she herself used to be an โainโt.โ Growing up outside the tony enclave, Traciโs history at the hotel begins in high school when she and her former best friend Shannon Grayson are hired as lifeguards in their teens. Traci falls in love with the one good Edding son, Hoke, who tragically dies in a jet crash four years ago, a mere five years after they marry. Hokeโs unexpected death leaves Traci to work her way up to CEO & President of the Saint Cecilia Resort โThe Saintโ as a half insider (Saint), half outsider (Ain't). She does not trust her Hokeโs jerk of a brother Fredrick Eddings. Rickโs only redeeming quality is that he is father to Traciโs 21 year old niece, Parrish, who also works hard at the hotel and lives in the staff dorm refusing to be seen as a nepo baby. Traci and Parrish are close, which irks her brother in law, Rick endlessly. As you can imagine, they bump heads throughout their lives. There are numerous times the plot reverts back to the early day working at the Saint for The Eddings family. Characters that readers also meet: Parrish, Javi, who has worked at the Saint + known Traci since their teen years, Charlie the GM, Spencer (KJโs father), who forces KJ to work at the Saint as punishment for failing out of Wake Forest. KJ lives in the newly built staff housing on the resort property with 21 year old Parrish, new chef Felice, Garrett the headwaiter, who has also been at The Saint since his high school days, Shannonโs 20 yr old daughter Olivia (Livvy), Marci, Hudson, Waylonโฆ Again, a lot to keep track of as everyone tries to get answers while running a 5 star resort! If you are a fan of short chapters with lots of chaos, guests misbehaving as they give Saint staff a run for their money, mystery, drama, murder, and ins and outs of both guests & staff unfolds in the height of resort season, you will enjoy Summers at the Saint. Traci tries her best through it all to overcome "being an Ainโt to becoming a Saint" while honoring her late husband Hoke's memory + turning a profit working on the same property as his ungrateful family, all while unexpectedly finding love again at the end. 3.5/5
I recently listened to Summers at the Saint on Audible, my first Mary Kay Andrew's book. Initially, I anticipated a light, beachy listen, but unfortunately, it didn't quite meet my expectations.
One of the main issues I encountered was the abundance of characters, making it challenging to keep track of them all. The story felt overloaded with various plotlines, going in unexpected directions that I found hard to follow. Consequently, the narrative seemed disjointed, and at times, the storyline
was often unbelievable.
I wonder if I approached the book with different expectations or mindset, which might have affected my overall experience.
I went into this book completely blind. What I thought would be a nice beach read between the help of a hotel and the rich visitors, I was completely wrong. Turned out to be a murder mystery of present and past. I love the twist and turns of was once the start of a nice beach read turned thriller. I had never read Mary Kay Andrews before, but I'm excited to dive into some of her work.
I loved this novel! This was such a great summer story! The book has romance, mystery, family dramaโฆeverything and more than I was looking for!
This story centers around the exclusive St. Cecilia resort, a large pink luxury hotel on a private island surrounded by expensive homes and a lush golf course. Traci Eddings is the owner of the hotel and she assembles a new crew for the summer which is a mush-mash of all sorts of people she thinks will do well at โThe Saintโ. There is a fairly typical discrepancy between the residents of the island, โthe saintsโ and the people who work there โ the aintโsโ.
I loved that this book had two mysteries, one old and one new that were at play. There was also a great dynamic between the new staff members and current staff. I enjoyed the family drama, as well. This was really a great story. I listened to the audiobook, which was very well narrated.
My first audiobook and first book from Mary Kay Andrews. I went into this book not knowing anything about it. I was surprised in the best way possible. Thereโs romance, mystery, and crime. It kept me engaged trying to figure out what happened at The Saint. And the ending was not what I was expecting! The only thing is that there are a lot of character for my liking. Overall it was a great read!
I enjoyed this far more than I ever expected to! This was my first experience reading from this wildly popular author (I know, crazy) and Iโm so glad I finally did. Everything about this story was done well, the immersive setting, the character developments, the mystery plot, the romances, and friendships. This is the perfect book to read on a summer vacation. Itโs emotional and suspenseful. The ending was twisty and satisfying. I cared for the characters and was invested in the outcome. I liked getting to know the inner workings of the hotel/resort, and what it meant to everyone who was a part of it. The murder-mystery plot had me very intrigued and kept me guessing. I really enjoyed my time with the story and definitely recommend! I liked the narrator and thought they were a great fit for the voice of the story.
I did not expect to love this book as much as I did! I read the synopsis and thought I was settling in for a good dysfunctional family story with a scenic summer vibe, a hotel with a history coming back into the limelight and something light to enjoy and read while in between my usual psychological thrillers. I was not expecting this book to be a full on murder solving mystery itself!
I really enjoyed the storyline and characters in this book, Protagonist Traci is a widow trying to keep the family resort "The Saint" afloat. But, debt is adding up and it is getting harder to attract people to work at The Sain and other hotels are poaching her staff for more money. Traci comes up with an idea to attract new staff by providing free housing accommodations. We meet and get to know her new hires and they become part of the story.
Her past also becomes a part of the story. Traci was once a lifeguard at the resort when she was a teen. It is there she met her husband, whose family owned the resort. Throw into the mix, an ex-best friend with a lot of anger issues, an alcoholic raging brother-in-law and a man showing up to try and solve the mystery behind a young boy drowning at The Saint over 20 years ago.
If you are in the mood for a lighter mystery novel with great character development, I recommend this one! It's a solid 4.5 stars from me. The only thing I was not sold on was the lack of sadness when a character passed on and how quickly people moved on from it. Other than this, loved the book.
I had the opportunity to listen to this on audiobook and the narration was fantastic.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the advanced listeners copy to listen and review.
Thank you to Netgalley, Macmillan Audio, and Mary Kay Andrews for an advance copy of Summers at the Saint in exchange for an honest review. The more and more I read of Mary Kay Andrews, the more I need to read. Summers at the Saint was another out of the park book by Andrews. I truly have always loved the idea of going somewhere exclusive and lavish for the summers so going to St. Cecelia (The Saint) satisfied that itch. We find ourselves meeting Traci (our MC) as she is attempting to refurbish and bring the life back to the Saint. Throughout this process and the summer, we meet many exceptional characters with different back stories that all add to the picture of what The Saint is becoming. Sprinkle in some crappy family members, murder, and stealing and you get yourself the perfect summer read. I was absolutely thrilled to see that Kathleen McInernley was the narrator as she does such an excellent job. McInernley really sucked me in while reading and didnt let me go until the end. This one will be out on May 7th and I cannot recommend it enough for your summer beach reading.
At first I was nervous with there being so many different characters in this book and I was worried I wouldn't be able to keep up with each one. But let me tell you, once the story got going I was hooked! Each person has a unique story of their own and eventually they interweave with one another at the Saint. I absolutely loved Traci's character! She stayed true to herself and to the Saint! She was such a good person that unfortunately had many bad things happen to her. But she kept going and striving for the best, not only for herself but for her hotel. This book was a great one and will make an excellent book club read! There is so much to talk about in this story and will make for great conversations! I highly recommend this book!
Thank you, Macmillan Audio for this advance copy in exchange for my review.
I think this might be Mary Kay's best book yet! What a beautiful cast of complex characters.
Summers at the Saint is heartbreaking all while making you laugh out loud. The murder mystery plot throughout surprised me in the best possible way.
Mary Kay's summers in Georgia are always wonderful but something about the Saint Cecelia is just absolute perfection.
I hate to compare the two beach reads queens but if you're a fan of Elin, or more specifically Hotel Nantucket and you've never read anything by Mary Kay Andrews please let this be your first read, this is 100% the book for you. You'll love it, I promise.
๐ง๐ note: Kathleen McInerney did an exceptional job bringing this large cast of characters to life.
I do love MKA and her books but this one really did become a very quick listen for me. I listened to it whenever I have minutes to go. The author paints an exclusive hotel that anyone would like to go to. After years of being in the red this resort owner has to think outside the box and offer extra housing to fill in some of the need positions in the resort. What could go wrong with employees living in dorm style housing? Well a great deal apparently. What follows is a murder and then plots that unfold of employees doing horrible things that hurt the reputation of the resort and it's owner. There were so many heart wrenching backstories but I love that idea that the women conquer in the end . I loved the book and the narrator was great. Thank you #NetGalley for the ARC
I love books with complicated families and friends. This book did not disappoint. I found the characters unique and so well-written. I am excited to go on my own beach vacation at a place like the Saint!
Summers at the Saint by Mary Kay Andrews was a fun beach read with a suspenseful murder. I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Kathleen McInerney. She was excellent. I look forward to listening to other books that she's narrated.
The beginning has multiple points of view that tee up quickly. Hang in there because it becomes easy to track who everyone is, especially with Ms. McInerneyโs narration.
This book has a lot of heart, and I felt connected to each character. Even with the murder, this was a light read, perfect for a beach vacation.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an ARC.
This is the second audiobook I have listened to by Mary Kay Andrews and OMG i just love her writing. This book was narrated by Kathleen McInerney and I could listen to her all day. She kept me entertained through this whole book. I was so excited when I saw May Kay Andrews had a new book. I'm the person that decides to read a book by its cover. So when I saw the cover and the author I knew it was going to be good. What I didn't know was what this book was about. Why read a synopsis when you know it's going to be good?! Well I got a surprise with this one. I thought it was going to be a cute summer story. NOPE!!!This was a mystery thriller story. I had the BEST time listening to this book. I didn't want to stop listening. There was a few twist I did see coming and knew who it was but didn't know how she was going to execute it. This book has some romance in it. The characters were really well written. I absolutely loved the main character Tracy. I would still say this would be a good beach read! I can't recommend this book enough. Please grab a coffee or drink of choice and ENJOY this book!!
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for allowing me to listen to this ARC for my honest opinion.
Summers at the Saint is the perfect book for summer! Mary Kay Andrews tells a story of friendship, family secrets, mysterious twists, and summers that will never be forgotten. Summers at the Saint takes place at a seaside hotel/resort along the Georgia coast and follows childhood friends Traci and Shannon through life's ups and downs and all the turns along the way.
Kathleen McInerney did a wonderful job with the narration as she voiced several characters. Her voice is easy to listen to and she is a lovely storyteller.
The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead 5 was that I was a little lost at first with all the backstories of the characters, but once I was able to start connecting them I couldn't put the book down.
Thank you NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for providing me with an ARC of this audiobook in exchange for my honest, unbiased opinion.
