Big thank you to the publisher and net galley for the early read! This book was really good. I took off 1 star because it was not what I expected. It had me hooked and apprehensive all at once. Def will be recommending this book.
A summer must read that everyone will love! This book had a little bit of everything in it…. mystery, some romance, friendships, family (real and found), a fantastic location, loveable characters, and had me hooked from start to finish. This was my first book by this author and it definitely won’t be my last!! The audiobook was a little hard for me to get into because there’s only 1 narrator and multiple POVs. But it wasn’t hard to keep track of the characters once I got into the book more. I’ll definitely be recommending this book to everyone!
A family drama with a twist of mystery.
Traci Eddings and her best friend Shannon were lifeguards at The Saint, a posh country club hotel for the extremely rich, when an eight-year-old boy drowns in the pool. The tragedy haunts them 22 years later when Waylon, the boy’s half-brother begins investigating the mysterious accident. Traci, who is now running the hotel, is bombarded with problems since the death of her husband and results from the pandemic. When she hires summer employees to ease her problems, instead a multitude of danger seems to follow.
This book was full of rich people gone bad and nice people overcoming obstacles which made It an enjoyable read. There were several twists that kept me interested.
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the Advanced Reader Copy. #NetGalley @MacmillanAudio
This was entertaining. It appears to be a beach read but winds up being a murder mystery, so that was a bit surprising. There are a lot of characters to keep track of which is sometimes difficult with an audio book. You really have two types of people in this book: those who want to better their lives and those who are greedy terrible people. I liked this better than Andrews' other books.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.
This story truly was not what I was expecting… but man did I love it! The title and cover really had me thinking that this would just be another beach read, but the SECOND that I realized we were about to get some mystery/true crime I was 100% in!!
I read a few reviewers that were critical of all the different characters in this story, but personally I loved the challenge of trying to figure out how they were all connected and when they would become important. Traci and Liv were the wholesome, lovable main characters that every good novel needs. Even the villainous characters were well developed in this story.
This is the first Mary Kay Andrews book that I’ve picked up, and suffice to say that I will be returning for more! Although this was a bit lengthy for what you’d expect to find, I truly thought it was worth every minute. I finished in just three days! Many thanks to the author and publisher for this ARC!!
At first I was a little concerned how I would keep all the characters straight with listening to the audio but once I started getting into it there was no problem
This book kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I felt I had some of the mystery solved but there was def some curve balls thrown in!
Narrator did a great job!
This book was SO good!! I enjoyed every second of this audiobook, I can’t wait to pick up a physical copy to read as well! This is my first time reading anything by Mary Kay Andrews and I’ve added all their books to my growing TBR.
This was such a twisty, entertaining cozy mystery/beach read. There were multiple times I thought I’d figured out the plot twist but Summers at the Saint kept me guessing until the very last page. This book is a must-have on your Summer TBR list!
4.5!
This was so enjoyable. I love the narrator for Mary’s books. Her voice is just soothing and when she changes it for each character it’s not cringy. I also enjoyed that this was a little different than her other stories. It was more of a mystery than it was a romance and I enjoyed it!
Gotta love a good Mary Kay Andrews story. Her southern charm, wit, sassy comebacks and emphasis on female lead characters keeps me intrigued for more.
Pick this up when you are ready for a summer day with a sassy read.
I love Mary Kay Andrews. Her stories are always so fun and full of great characters. I love the cozy mystery vibe set in a historic hotel. A death from years ago resurfaces and a new death created a lot of action and connections. I love that we are given the mystery while getting humor as well. Andrews novels are always so entertaining and the audio is always great. This cover drew me in so quickly because it’s gorgeous. Not to mention this was a fabulous read to kick off your summer reading! I binged this one so quickly and the romance that Mary Kay Andrews always gives is perfection.
3.5 stars!
This is my first time reading a book by Mary Kay Andrews so I didn’t know what to expect! I went in assuming it would be a drama filled gen-fic. I was so wrong! In a good way. Yes, there was lots of drama but there was also mystery, thriller, action, and romance thrown in the mix. I never knew where the story was going. The setting was beautiful and I truly wish I could experience the place 😍. It kind of gave me the same vibes as season 1 of the show “White Lotus”!
I will say… there were quite a few characters and situations to keep up with. It didn’t ruin my reading experience but I could see where some may feel overwhelmed.
I was given an audio version to this book and the narrator, Kathleen McInerney, did a fantastic job! She had a voice for every character… and there were a lot!! 👏🏼👏🏼
This was a no for me. The story started out interesting enough it just dragged. At 70% I was ready for it to be over. If I had been reading this I would have definitely done some skimming. The narrator tried but her accent sometimes could be grating. In her defense she had way too many characters to voice. I feel like if a male narrator were added the story would’ve flowed more. There were some twists I didn’t see coming but one of the past indiscretions of one of the main characters never became public or were any repercussions for him. Summers at the Saint
By: Mary Kay Andrews
Macmillan Audio
Narrated by: Kathleen McInerney
As a Georgia resident, I love a good book set in my home state. Although Summers at the Saint takes place on the Georgia coast, it is so much more than a beach read.
The hotel known as the St. Cecelia is itself a character in this lavishly plotted story because of its history and atmosphere.
Andrews knows how to write a story that draws you in, and she does it this time with a big cast of characters and a rich, intriguing plot. Main character Traci Eddings is the hotel owner who has her hands full trying to bring the hotel back to glory amidst scandal and mystery. Narrator McInerney is a favorite reader of mine, and she shines with her delivery of MKA's new novel. Just settle in and prepare to be intrigued and entertained in the style that is uniquely Mary Kay Andrews.
Thank you to Net Galley and Macmillan Audio for a gifted advance listener's copy. My review is my own.
Such a great summer book! Perfect amount of chick lit mixed with some light mystery that keeps you reading and wanting more! I really enjoyed the character development. The narrator for the audio version was enjoyable and so pleasant to listen to. This book gave me Elin Hilderbrand / Nantucket vibes.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ARC.
Grab your beach chair and favourite summer beverage. True to Mary Kay Andrew’s style of captivating and descriptive writing, Summers at the Saint doesn’t disappoint but it is a little slow to get started but it’s well worth the time invested. The development of the characters plays an important role how the story twists and plays out. Turns out, Summers at the Saint is a bit of a ‘who dunnit’ mystery.
The audiobook narration, by Kathleen McInerney, is clear and well paced. Her voice is pleasant and easy to listen to. I enjoyed listening.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to enjoy the audiobook version of this ARC.
4.5 stars rounded up
Holy crap. I'm not sure what I was expecting but this book threw me through for so many loops. I loved it. Absolutely loved it. Lemme tell ya, the cover has you thinking it's gonna be a fun summer thriller. Wrong. This book kept me guessing the whole time and I LOVED it. I will be telling everyone I know to read this book.
The writing in this novel is delightful. The everything else is a bit messy. There's too many characters and too many plot points. The book is a murder mystery/beach read/romance - which sounds really cool in theory, but in practice is just clunky and chaotic. The world building is fabulous, and this book is insanely charming, and it immediately captivates you if you can get through the general overwhelming nature of the book.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
This just sucked me in. I started thinking about how it was going to be a classic Mary Kay Andrews southern romance, and then I got the twist and it hit me in all the best ways.
St. Cecelia, or The Saint, is a luxury resort on the coast. Everything is perfect, or at least so it seems from the outside. With summer hitting in full swing, the Saint gets a terrific cast of characters working there, and then boom, everything goes so wrong.
This is a perfect summer beach read with a great blend of romance and mystery. It’s a winner.

4 1/2 stars - This book has all the elements of a typical MKA summer novel, but with added twists. Traci has one summer to turn things around at the prestigious St. Cecilia, but it seems everything and everyone is working against her. Be sure to pack this book in your bag for your summer vacation or curl up with it from home and feel like you’re on vacation! MKA has done it again. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the advance copy audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
