So often we forget to acknowledge moments of mysticism in the mundane, day-to-day life... and this book encourages us to recognize that there is so much more.

While not a new concept, Starr does a wonderful job in her encouragement and guidance. Anyone who is looking for an invitation to bring mysticism into their daily life will benefit from this read.

In Ordinary Mysticism, Mirabai Starr provides a thoughtful and insightful exploration of the mystic's journey. As a fellow mystic who had a spiritual awakening in 2014, I can attest to the power and truth of Starr's words. Mysticism, as Starr eloquently describes, is indeed a way of seeing beyond the dualities and turmoils of the world, and instead recognizing the underlying unity and love that connects us all. When you become a mystic you understand the importance of unifying and sharing unity consciousness and how truly powerful compassion is.

Starr's ability to articulate the mystic's experience of "communion with ultimate reality" resonates deeply. Reading books about mysticism can broaden your awareness and bring you back to remembrance of who you truly are. Mystics thrive in ecosystems of spiritual diversity because we know the ultimate truth is LOVE. The ultimate goal of all mystics is to help our brothers and sisters awaken to their own liberation and to see the beauty and truth of who we truly are.

Ordinary Mysticism serves as an invaluable guide, inviting readers to unlock the mystic within through thoughtful writing prompts and exercises. This book is a gift to anyone seeking deeper self-realization and a more unified, compassionate worldview. Starr's words have the power to awaken the mystic in us all.

Esoteric at times, but beautiful language that describes the reality of everyday life. For me, this was less a guide or how to as much as a reminder that we can step outside the boundaries we’ve been given or know. Star tries hard to avoid toxic positivity and spiritual bypassing while looking for the sacred in the everyday, both the profound and the mundane, the conventionally beautiful and the heart-breaking — which is impressive in these times, where it pervades so much.

This book is cozy. It's holy. It's stories. It's permission. The writing is accessible and clear. Having your mug and soft blanket, your mundane pleasures nearby will add to the experience so you can watch them transformed into personal sacramental symbols.

Ordinary Mysticism by Mirabai Starr reminds us that we are all Mystics. We don’t have to be a guru or read a massive amount of books on spirituality to be able to become closer to Spirit. Spirit is within us, around us, and in everyone and everything. Starr gives numerous historical examples of those who found themselves surrounded by Love when things were at their darkest.

Starr herself experienced great tragedy, and it is through this experience that she surrenders and meets God.. Her words are a guide for all of us while we are on life’s journey. We too can experience Spirit in our daily mundane tasks. She reminds us to look for the Mystical everywhere, and we will find it!

There is a lot to like about Starr’s lovely flowing style of telling her stories, but that might be the one flaw of this otherwise well-written memoir. I say memoir because she writes about herself far more than she writes about mysticism. I imagine she has heard that before. But from mystics to Matthew Fox to Ram Dass, we have all covered this territory again and again. The title is enticing, as is her encouragement to find mysticism within and all around you. But there is nothing even remotely original here, which is why her own story must command the narrative. I’m glad she wrote it and it’s a nice addition to her other books.

What is an ordinary mystic? To be a mystic means that you don't have to live in a Monastery to orient your life towards the sacred. To an ordinary mystic, every aspect of life is sacred. Each chapter of this well written and profound book explores the inherent sanctity of a different aspect of the manifest: intention. Attention. Surrender. Transmission, connection. Feeling and integration. Guided meditation exercises. Writing prompts. .
