I love Emily Shiner! There is so much suspense and tension here especially as Freya works desperately to stop the killer.

Having never read any books by this author, I wasn’t sure what to expect. From the very beginning the plot was interesting and easy to follow. The mystery surrounding the main character wasn’t completely unfolded until the very end. The storyline was great from the beginning to the end. I was completely hooked, not wanting to stop reading until I knew who the guilty person was. Not who I expected!! A very, very good book, I look forward to reading the next one.

Three Drowned Girls by Emily Shiner

This was a great book, an easy read, great characters, lots of description. The story moves at a good pace, there is always something happening, and easy to follow.

The main character is Freya, she moves back to her hometown after five years away, she comes back into her old role as Captain of the local police department. I really enjoyed following her investigation and the relationship she has with coworkers and Esther.
The book lays a good foundation for the 2nd book in this series, I'll be diving into it next.
This is the first of Emily Shiner's books that I have read, I really enjoyed her writing style.

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of Three Drowned Girls, published by Bookouture

My first book to read by @authoremilyshiner and it didn’t disappoint. I couldn’t put it down. #ThreeDrownedGirls is book #1 in the Detective Freya Sinclair Series and it’s a real page turner. Could also be read as a standalone.
I really enjoyed this book. It’s fast paced, has brilliant twists and turns with an unexpected ending, it’s gripping and so intense. I was totally hooked right from the start.
Freya returns to her home town and is straight into a case of missing girls after a body is found in the river but nothing seems to add up.
It’s written really well. I liked the authors writing style as it’s easy to read and the story just flows well, keeping you engaged and turning the pages. The characters are all well developed and likeable. I liked Freya and Candy’s relationship, Brad too, they make a great team. I also like the background relationship Freya had with Esther, the woman her took her in as a teen. I look forward to seeing these characters grow in the next books.
If you enjoy police procedural, crime fiction and psychological thrillers then you’ll love this book. Definitely recommend.
With thanks to #NetGallery @Bookouture for an arc of #ThreeDrownedGirls in exchange for a honest review.
Book publishes 22 April 2024.

Detective Freya Sinclair is desperate to get to the bottom of a case involving missing girls in her home town of Fawn Lake. Facing backlash from a previous investigation that went wrong, can she get the support she needs before anyone else gets murdered?

I loved Emily Shiner’s “The Wife in the Photo” and was looking forward to reading another of hers. Unfortunately, this one fell a bit short for me.
The pace was very slow and I felt disinterested at times.

There was a lot of build up surrounding what her parents did, which never really surmounted to anything and it was lacking in twists and turns.
I didn’t really warm to any of the characters and never really got behind Freya. I did like the camaraderie between her, Candy and Brad. Esther was sweet as well. I think I’d rather have read the story about Freya’s parents and how Esther came to take her in though.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my advanced copy.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review through NetGalley. This is the first book I've read by Emily Shiner and while it was enjoyable it wasn't my favorite. I think this would be better pitched as a Netflix series to binge. There was a lot of dialogue and too many characters to keep track of, which would have been ok if the descriptions of the characters stayed consistent enough to track them. For example, one character was introduced as having a pixie cut but by chapter 43 the same character was described as having her hair in a ponytail. Otherwise, I love that the book was introduced as book 1, allowing for some patience as the main character develops and her backstory unfolds in future books. Again, I think I'd love this (5 stars) as a Netflix series more than a book!

Thanks to #NetGalley and #Bookouture for the book #ThreeDrownedGirls by #EmilyShiner. This is the first book in a new series and it is really, really good. I was drawn into this book and couldn’t stop. Freya has just returned to town after a tramatic event years ago. Her first case is a drowned girl. As she digs into this case she find more disturbing occurrences. Who is doing this to these little girls?

Very engaging book. It was very twisted in a good way and kept me wanting to read more. This plot wasn't something I've read before and the book was very well written. I can't wait to read more from this author and the series.

Emily Shiner does it again and cannot wait to read more in the series. Emily Shiner is just an absolute genius and i love her writing.

There is alot going on in this book but that is what makes it good! This is a great gripping crime series and it just keeps you engaged from page 1.

I love the fact that there are little things in the the books and clues dropped about Freya's parents and life and i hope this is a clue that this will be included more in the series going forward because i would love to know about her childhood. I cannot wait for more from Emily and more from this series.

Great Writing thanks so much for another great book!

Thanks NetGalley and Emily Shiner for letting me read and review.

I am a series girl and I am already excited for the next books to come in this one! A detective whose parents were serial killers, that is all I need! Definitely wanted more about their crimes but I think we may get that later. This one was messed up! Little girls missing, several reasons why! Enjoyed it! Thanks NetGalley!

Freya is one of the first female protagonists that I've liked in a long time! She's a strong woman but leads well, doesn't step on her team's toes and actually seems to have her priorities in order. She returns home to work at her original police station after 5 years away with the stigma of her past on her shoulders and immediately gets launched into a serial case.

My main complaint was that there wasn't enough backstory of her past. Maybe this will be fleshed out in future books. One Liar Left, #2 in the series comes out later this month! Or maybe we can look forward to a prequel explaining Freya's past and her parents' crimes. I'd love to have more detailed background.

I really enjoyed Freya and her team of two and I can't wait to read more to see what comes next in this series! I also look forward to reading other novels by Ms. Shiner!

Thank you to Bookouture and Emily Shiner for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

So So much going on!
Missing girls?
Drowned girls?
A nice start to a new gripping crime series by author Emily Shiner.
I do have to say, the pacing of the story seemed a bit off to me. But, it did keep my interest enough to keep reading to the end.
I want to know more about Freya’s parents and childhood. We are teased with bits and pieces of information.
I’m excited to read the next book in the series.
Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review.

Detective Freya Sinclair has returned to her hometown after 5 years. On that same day the body of a little girl is discovered, drowned. She discovers numerous girls have gone missing but not reported. She races to uncover what is happening to those girls before there is another victim.

Wow! This book was Unputdownable. The characters were likable and relatable. I’m looking forward to hearing more of what went down with her parents. I am moving into the next book as we speak.

When Freya Sinclair returns home after being away for 5 years, she is not expecting a warm welcome. When she left it was for very personal reasons - she grew up not knowing the terrible secrets were parents kept in her own home and when they came to light more than just her family was affected. However, she has returned and is now a police captain for the local PD and her first day on the job is not an easy one. A young girl is found by a father and his child, drowned. As Freya and her team follow clues to find out who the girl is and what happened to her, another girl is also found drowned. Who could be doing this to these young girls and why has no one reported them missing?

I'm a huge Emily Shiner fan so I was super excited to read this one. It was a little different style than her other books but it was still a fantastic read. We are given just enough background about Freya as the book goes on to feel for her situation (coming home where she definitely won't be welcomed by everyone). The story is fast paced and definitely had me reading quicker as the story went on because I was desperate to find out what happened to these girls. The characters were good and the story was great.

I would definitely recommend this book and cannot wait to read book 2 in the series!

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book for free. This was my honest review.

Author: Emily Shiner
Rating- ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Genre: Thriller

Synopsis - When Freya Sinclair was a little girl, she had no idea what her parents were hiding in the basement of her childhood home…

After five years away from her hometown of Fawn Lake, Detective Freya Sinclair isn’t expecting a warm welcome from the people she’s sworn to protect. She became a detective to bring serial killers like her parents to justice, but the tight-knit North Carolinian community can’t see past her twisted roots.

Thrillers are my go-to genre and this one did not disappoint! Our main character, Detective Freya Sinclair, is a force from the start. Despite her own story (no spoilers here!) which unfolds throughout the chapters, she is fierce and passionate. Her team is equally as important to the storyline and you will absolutely love Candy and Brad! Of course, I can’t forget Esther. There are twists and turns and a few cliffhangers that I am hoping are addressed in book two (fingers frossed 🤞🏽). Thoroughly enjoyed my time in Fawn Lake. Do yourself a favor and join Freya and her team while they solve the case of Three Drowned Girls.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC!

Book 1
Detective Freya Sinclair
Another new author for me and the start of a new crime thriller series. I soon got into this and didn't want to put it down, I became fully invested in the characters., lots of twists, I hope there is a book 2 ?
When Freya Sinclair returns to Fawn Lake after leaving 5 years ago, not everybody is pleased to see her.. The chief of police promotes her to captain, gives her one detective and a beat officer called Brad, im not going to spoil it for you, if you like your crime thrillers this is the one for you, highley recommend

I received a free ARC and want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture. This is my honest review.

I really wanted to like this book. However, as I read it was not super engaging. The main character seems to drive frantically everywhere! She is kind and caring about the people around her, and has a traumatic past. The investigation is kind of sloppy, and Freya makes some silly decisions- for example, going investigating in the woods alone, The one thing that I really wanted to know was the story of her past and her parents. There were many nuggets dropped about what happened- but it was never truly revealed. This was frustrating because as we see Freya return to her hometown, the people there do not welcome her. If we knew the whole story about her parents, I might have connected to her more.

I am not sure if I will read the next installment. I would read a little, then put it down and remember much later that I still needed to finish it!

Freya Sinclair moves back to her hometown. When she returns everyone has an opinion on her return due to her parents being serial killers. Freya starts over with a job at the police department where she quickly gets wrapped up into a case of multiple missing kids.

I enjoyed the premise of the book, but the case work got a little redundant overtime and slow. Especially with some of sloppy police work.

I wish we got to learn a little bit more about the Detective, Freya, and her past because I was consistently wanting more.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A true page-turner! From the crisp conversations, to the chilling narrations, Emily Shiner’s writing kept me at the edge of my seat throughout this thrilling novel! You will cheer for Detective Freya and her team as she returns home to face her demons and find justice for three mysteriously missing girls. You'll fall in love with the small town plot, and learn the ins and outs of her hometown as well. Don’t miss out on this thriller!

I stayed up almost to midnight to finish this book. It was one of those 'just one more chapter' ' books! The characters grew throughout the book. The murderer not obvious until it was revealed. As a mother of girls it made me sad at times, but the plot was fast paced and I look forward to another book in this series
