Every year little Hedgehog has a dull plan. It's as dull as the plain brown leaves he makes his house from. This year timid Hedgehog wants some excitement with a bold pumpkin plan. He makes an elaborate plan to have a beautiful new home this year. While gathering his supplies he meets new friends, overcoming his shyness, solves problems and has self-awareness while gaining self-found confidence. Lovingly illustrated and giving children a lesson that they can do it themselves and gain confidence.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

A wonderful and whimsical story about a hedgehog trying to be a house. he choses a wonderful pumpkin but it's far from where he wants to build his house. SO he has to take the pumpkin through many places. I loved the art style of this book. Perfect for the spooky season to read with a cup pf warm tea. Short but with a sweet story that will captivate audiences of any ages.
Thank you to Capstone and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book for my students. This is a sweet story that shows friendship and anxiety to talk to people. It is a great step by step story for my students because of these points, I have to give this 5 out of 5 stars
This was such a cute Halloween story. I loved reading it with my son and he enjoyed looking at the photos. I highly reccomend this book to other parents.
A bold pumpkin plan is a great read for the kids following the story of a hedgehog as he builds a new home, meets friends and over comes obstacles. My kids loved the illustrations.
This book was just lovely and a complete pleasure to read.
The book is very well written, the layout of the book is perfect and the illustrations bring it all to life.
The story is perfect to read around Halloween and I will be reading it again with my daughter then.
Hedgehog is a great character and I loved the ending.
It is 5 stars from me for this one - very highly recommended!
Oh my goodness, this book was so adorable. It's about this hedgehog who's very very shy and timid. Every year it designs and builds its own new house. But this year will be different. Instead of using the old boring sticks, hedgehog will be using a dashing pumpkin. But then the problems start to pop up. How does hedgehog get the pumpkin home? Hedgehog goes on this wonderful quest to find the perfect pumpkin and along the way he finds even more than his new home. He finds friends. Friends he can count on. Hedgehog discovers that he really likes to be alone, but that he loves being with friends even more!
Very touching and cute story! Also, the details in the illustrations were fenomenal! Very well thought out book, story and illustrations both!
So stinkin' cute! I loved shy little Hedgehog and his big plans, and while Hedgehog would never ask for help each other animal was willing to reach out to a struggling stranger. I liked how each animal added their unique skills to help and teamwork made the dreamwork! The illustrations are gorgeously colorful and detailed.
First I would like to thank the author/illustrator, publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to review this ARC with honesty.
This was a fun and cute little story dealing with a hedgehog that seems to have difficulty with asking for help from others. As the Hedgehog tries to go about building himself a home out of a pumpkin, he runs across obstacles that causes him to rely on other creatures who work together and soon Hedgehog realizes that in fact likes to have friends.
It's a cute story regarding asking for help, learning how to find ways to communicate with others while still also enjoying being an introverted mind.
Very cute story and my daughter found amusing with the pumpkin moving around everywhere as well.
My Rating: 4 Stars!
The first thing you notice about A Bold Pumpkin Plan by Katy Hudson is the gorgeous, detailed illustrations throughout. A timid hedgehog and his journey to bring pack the perfect pumpkin to build a winter home from comes to life in this story. Along the way, the hedgehog will encounter obstacles and find friends that will help him overcome them. This is a warm, wonderful tale, perfect for snuggling and reading together, especially as the weather becomes cooler and the days are shorter.
Book Review: A Bold Pumpkin Plan by Katy Hudson
Rating: 5 Stars
I recently picked up A Bold Pumpkin Plan by Katy Hudson, and it was an absolute delight from start to finish! First off, can we talk about the cover? It's just adorable! The vibrant colors and charming illustrations immediately caught my eye and set the tone for what was to come.
The story follows a timid Hedgehog who embarks on a remarkable journey to create a unique home. As he navigates through various challenges and meets new friends along the way, Hedgehog discovers a well of confidence he never knew existed. It’s such a relatable tale of self-discovery and growth. I loved how the author beautifully intertwined themes of friendship and problem-solving throughout the narrative. Each page is filled with stunning artwork that complements the uplifting story perfectly.
What I appreciate most about this book is its ability to engage young readers while also imparting valuable lessons about self-awareness and courage. I honestly don’t have much more to say about this one other than it is an absolutely adorable illustrated children's book. Whether you're reading it to a child or enjoying it solo, A Bold Pumpkin Plan is sure to bring a smile to your face!
If you're on the lookout for a charming story that encourages kids to step out of their comfort zones, this book is definitely for you. Katy Hudson has done it again with another gem that I can wholeheartedly recommend!

Thank you Netgalley and Capstone Editions for the opportunity to read A Bold Pumpkin Plan in exchange for my honest review.
This incredibly adorable story focuses on Hedgehog and his dream of building a new home out of a pumpkin! This is too large of a task for him to take up alone, so he must ask for help from his new friends Mouse, Frog, Owl and Racoon. Hedgehog is an introvert and struggles with the task of asking for help. This story follows Hedgehog through multiple tasks that require him to step out of his comfort zone in order to build his house. Along the way, he learned that life is so much better when you surround yourself with great friends.
This book is beautifully illustrated and an amazing lesson for children: one can have the alone time they crave while still being able to maintain loving, helpful relationships. I highly recommend this book to all. There’s a lesson in here for more than just children!
Thanks to NetGalley and Capstone Editions for my ARC in exchange for my honest review. This book will be published August 1, 2024.
This sweet children’s book is about Hedgehog and his bold plan to build a new home out of a pumpkin! But he can’t do it alone. With the help of his new friends Mouse, Raccoon, Frog and Owl they transport his pumpkin through a variety of obstacles.
The moral: it’s ok to ask for help, even if you’re an introvert!
Beautiful illustrations too!
My boys and I enjoyed this sweet story of Hedgehog, who decided to build himself a new house, with the help of friends he makes along the way. I appreciate how Hedgehog was timid and introverted, and struggled with talking to new people (same Hedgehog, same), but realized life could be better with friends. The illustrations are beautiful, and this book will make a wonderful addition to anyone’s library!

Okay, this is stinking cute. I love a fall season theme, add all the cute forest creatures on top of that and I'm sold. Super cute aesthetically and the story is equally adorable. This books speaks to how sometimes just speaking to others, even those who are very nice, takes a lot of bravery. My kids loved the 2 maps depicted the most. A minor wonky thing is pumpkins typically float. There may be exceptions but as long as it isn't rotten they float. My kiddos pointed that out pretty quicky (thanks to a silly pumpkin washing tradition we have). This is a super cute book with a sweet message.
Thank you for the gifted arc!
Such a sweet story about the importance of friends and a community, even with the struggles of social anxiety 🫶 I think this book would be perfect for any socially anxious kiddo!
Timid Hedgehog has a bold plan. Problems ensue.
Adorable, has great messages seamlessly blended into the story, cute designs and characters.
The art style is slightly different from what I would go for, but it is still wonderful in my opinion and in my child's.
Hedgehog is ready for a change. After building the same house year after year, he’s planning something new this year.
“Something brighter. Something bolder.”
Like many introverts, Hedgehog’s imagination is big and so is his attention to detail. He figures out the perfect plan to make his perfect home a reality, but the best laid plans of mice and men (and hedgehogs) often go awry.
Opening yourself up to change in one area of your life often generates change in others. It isn’t long before Hedgehog has the opportunity to overcome obstacles.
Although he probably wants to roll up into a ball and hide, Hedgehog chooses to be courageous, being clear about what his needs are and accepting help from others.
Along the way, Hedgehog and I gain much needed confidence and learn that while alone time is so very important for introverts like us, we also need others in our life.
I love Katy Hudson’s books. She’s one of my favourite illustrators, bringing the struggles and triumphs of the most adorable animals to life. Their emotions are clearly portrayed and they’re always so relatable. Having read almost all of Katy’s previous books, I was delighted to find a few familiar faces amongst the pages.
The words are just as rewarding as the illustrations. I see myself in so many of Katy’s characters so her books are always a good reminder of lessons I’ve learned along the way.
Like the stories that preceded it, I haven’t found the reread that’s one too many. I don’t think I will ever tire of this book.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Capstone Editions, an imprint of Capstone, for the opportunity to read this picture book.
What a sweet & delightful book! I was given an advanced copy by NetGalley and Capstone Publishing, and I will definitely be reading this in my Pre-K classroom and adding a hard copy to my library. I love that Mouse stays true to himself throughout the story & learns the joy of balancing friendship with his own quiet time. I know all of my students will love this book, especially the shy ones.
An absolutely delightful [and fantastically illustrated] book about how it is totally okay to be alone and need/enjoy that alone, quiet time, BUT it is also lovely to have help when one needs it and then to share time with those very people who know when and how to help us introverted people.
Hedgehog is a lovely, shy, quiet character and many littles will relate to him and his decision/dream to step outside his own box [a PUMPKIN house! How glorious!!] and his initial hesitation to have conversations ["more talking" (said with a deep sigh) is one of the best lines ever from a book character] but how glad he is when he does choose both the conversations and the help. It is just a really lovely book that will resonate with so many, adults and littles alike.
